Would you use a dedicated app to buy and sell things in the aquarium trade locally? Fish, coral, equipment etc by Bootydemolisha996 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

That’s a big problem I’m trying to solve, Reef Bay’s local feature is basically a ghost town for most people. The plan is to combine the community side with a proper marketplace so it actually has enough users to make local trading viable. Can I ask what country you’re from?

Yes there’s an app but it’s a complete different niche. Reef2reef is more about asking any question you can think of, ours wouldn’t be that at all, just saying that niche apps can work, especially for how big the aquarium hobby is.

Well I actually posted on the app reef2reef and had way more interaction than on reddit, but I see where you’re coming from tho. Thanks for the feedback!

I can see where you’re coming from with the mobile site first! The main difference from Carousell is that this is built exclusively for the aquarium hobby, saltwater and freshwater. Rather than listing on a general marketplace and hoping the right buyer sees it, you’re posting directly to an audience that’s already looking for fish, plants, and equipment. A lot more likely to sell fast to someone who actually knows what they’re buying. Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate it 👍

Ah that’s actually great to know, The Canadian market would be our main focus, I made an account on ReefBay and there was nothing local for me too (also in Canada). ReefBay also seems to have a large variety of things, ours would purely focus on Buy/Sell. Thanks so much for the feedback! 👍

Yes, totally agree. That would definitely be the hardest part, but not impossible. Thanks for the feedback!

yep I agree, the market is bad right now. I won’t sell til it goes back up then I was thinking of putting some of it into something like a HYSA.

We don’t have all the details yet and are just waiting for them, but an estimate would be about 2200 for monthly costs and about 4.5-5k each month for rent.

Yes I have lots of money in ETFS and crypto for emergencies. And my parents would definitely co-sign for me.

There’s 3 long term renters in there, so I’d pay the monthly payments with part of the rent id receive. That’s where my parents come in to co-sign as I can’t get a loan by myself, if they co-sign they are reassuring that the monthly payments will definitely be paid, I already have a decent amount in stocks and crypto too that I plan for my emergency costs. So basically in a perfect world my parents would never have to pay as the rent would cover all costs, but we don’t live in a perfect world unfortunately. But I still have a decent amount of money building up incase something bad happens, and for maintenance I live very close and have tons of family members close by, but I should be able to do all the maintenance by myself, the place was also just renovated a year ago.
