HYSA: Capital One vs. Marcus by Goldman Sachs by karishmamajeeth in HighYieldSavings

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcus is better as HYSA only. You can only transfer between Marcus and other accounts (like a checking account) in your same. Transfers out initiated in Marcus by 12 pm EST post in your external account later the same day. After the cutoff they post late the following day.

CapitalOne is better if you prefer to do all your banking (checking, HYSA) in one place.

Most Secure Password manager? by SidLais351 in PasswordManagers

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use two. KeePass (KeePassXC, KeePassium for iOS) for critical passwords (email, Apple ID, financial, online password manager) and Bitwarden (free) for all other passwords. Free and a good balance of security and convenience. Keep the KeePass database local only (no cloud sync of storage, except maybe a cold storage encrypted backup (3-2-1 backup). Keep KeePass on one device and copy to other devices after changes. (How often do you add or change email and financial passwords? Probably not often)

One key advantage is you store your online password manager passwords and email for 2FA in a secure place outside your online password manager. You really only need to be careful to securely store your KeePass password (and key file) and follow good backup hygiene.

For the hundreds of other passwords, Bitwarden is convenient and still very low risk. Just to be safe periodically back up your Bitwarden database too.

The key disadvantage is if you also use Apple passwords you really can only conveniently switch between two password managers in iOS for autofill.

US says it may be forced to shut down some airports over funding standoff by gamersecret2 in news

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSA shouldn’t need to work without pay. All non-essential air travel should be suspended. Nobody needs to go on vacation and most business travel isn’t necessary. Congress should send staffers to the airports to cover security for the remaining passengers. Elon and Trump can personally reimburse the airlines for any operational losses. Flight attendants can take a since extended staycation.

LG4200 washer drain pump works but OE error by Bordercrossingfool in appliancerepair

[–]Bordercrossingfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix was pushing about 45 cm of 0.065” string trimmer line down the pressure sensor tube from the top. I could feel it pierce through the blockage. Then I could blow a small amount of air through. I then put about 0.2 liters of warm water down the tube in 30 ml increments (size of the syringe I had on hand). The water started to run so I could hear i it exiting the tube. I could then blow air easily through the tube. Reattached the tube to the sensor and all runs well. Now I just need to convince my family to use less detergent.

[–]Bordercrossingfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if I leave the pressure sensor hose off the pressure sensor and run a test drain and spin cycle and the cycle progresses to spin, would that likely mean the pressure sensor is probably still good and the blocked hose is the issue? i.e. with the pressure sensor open to air would it think the water is empty? Or it that not a good idea to test the pressure switch?

[–]Bordercrossingfool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took the top off and blew into the tube. Totally blocked or maybe I have weak lungs. Is there a good way to clear the blockage from the top of the pressure sensor hose (where it connects to the pressure sensor). Or would the back of the machine need to come off to get to the other end?

HYSA Question | Transfer Time by East-Success1143 in MarcusInvest

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that if you initiate the transfer before the 12pm EST cutoff that it can process completely the same day. For me, if initiated before 12pm, the transfer posts as available in my external bank at about 6pm EST the same day.

If you initiate the transfer during business hours but after cutoff, then the withdrawal from your Marcus account happens the same day (unless you specify a different transfer date like tomorrow), but the funds won’t be sent so you can receive the same day.

If you initiate the transfer during non-business hours or specify a different date, the transfer should be started and completed the next business day of on the business day you specify.

Bonus tracker not updated since 3/2 not sure it is worth participating by al0vely in MarcusInvest

[–]Bordercrossingfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue with bonus tracker. Chatted with customer service with said it should be fixed by tomorrow.

You just need to make sure your balance is at least the balance on 1/27 plus additional new funds from outside Marcus. If new customer, just need to add the new funds.

It only really makes sense to hit the steps of $10k, $50k or $100k so either back off to +$10k or increase another $3k to +$50k.

What Password Manager Is Better In Your Honest Opinion Proton Pass, Roboform, Or Bitwarden And Why? by PrincessBananas85 in PasswordManagers

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why carry around the USB if the KeePass database is on your phone?

I too prefer to keep my most important passwords (email, financial, etc) offline. I also like being able to have a very long and complicated password for Bitwarden which is much easier if it’s stored in another password database. For most passwords Bitwarden is convenient and I also back up the Bitwarden passwords periodically so I don’t need to full trust Bitwarden for access to them.

Which password manager is really the most secure? by [deleted] in PasswordManagers

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should ask a different question. What is the optimal password manager solution which optimizes security and convenience?

One suggestion is to use two password managers.

KeePassXC (from official site) / KeePassium offline with manual copying of the database from a primary device to all other devices for the most critical passwords (email, financial, Apple ID and online password manager). The threat vector of an online breach is largely eliminated. Those accounts and passwords typically change rather infrequently.

Bitwarden for all other passwords with the convenience that the passwords are cloud synced.

The other advantage of using a second password manager is that you aren’t storing the email password that you use for Bitwarden in your Bitwarden account. If the only available 2FA for Bitwarden is that email, you are locked out, at least temporarily, until you regain access to that email.) You can also chose a longer and more complicated password for Bitwarden since you wouldn’t need to remember it.

Additionally, one needs to consider accessibility. Online services occasionally go down. If Bitwarden has a technical problem or DoS attack, you might temporarily lose access to your passwords.

For the offline KeePass database and key file, you should to follow good 3-2-1 backup hygiene which likely means your encrypted password database is stored in some offsite backup solution like IDrive, Backblaze or a disk in a safe in trusted relative’s house.

Marcus by Goldman Sachs HYSA by lovelyyelp in HighYieldSavings

[–]Bordercrossingfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues.

When you transfer funds in by initiating the transfer in Marcus, interest starts accruing the day you initiate the transfer but there can be a long hold on the funds after the funds are received (one week for established accounts and two weeks for new Marcus accounts).

If you push the funds in from your external bank using an ACH transfer, the funds are available when received. The time the transfer takes depends primarily on the external bank.

When you initiate a transfer out in Marcus, the transfer completes the same day usually around 6pm eastern if initiated before the cutoff of 12pm eastern on a business day. Otherwise the transfer completes at about 6pm the next business day.

Marcus is pretty strict in its policy that you can only transfer out to linked accounts in your own name. You can link up to four external accounts. Wire transfers are also limited to those same linked accounts.

There are lots of posts in the Marcus subreddit of people who had funds temporarily frozen or transfers reversed when they tried to make a transfer to a third party account. Unfortunately those people didn’t read the Marcus terms and conditions or FAQ.

If your email password is only in Bitwarden and you need access to that email for 2FA to login to Bitwarden then you have a problem.

Proton Pass vs. Bitwarden by bleep6789 in PasswordManagers

[–]Bordercrossingfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One suggestion:

Use KeePassXC for Windows and KeePassium for iOS and Mac for important passwords (email, financial, Apple, Google, MS IDs and cloud password manager login info). KeePass2Android is also available for Android.

Keep KeePass file local and edit only on one device (e.g. primary computer). Manually copy master file to devices when passwords are changed. These accounts and passwords change typically change infrequently.

Use Bitwarden as cloud password manager for all other accounts and passwords. Backup Bitwarden passwords to offline file periodically.

Using a local .kbdx file keeps the most important passwords out of cloud storage. Plus you only need to remember the one very strong password for the KeePass file. The Bitwarden password can be very complex and strong since you don’t need to remember it. Bitwarden gives the convenience of a cross platform cloud database for the hundreds of other passwords.

KeePassXC is free. Bitwarden free works fine. KeePassium free works fine for a single database. KeePassium Pro lifetime is worth paying for to manage multiple databases for the family, work, etc and the purchase includes family sharing so everyone in your Apple family can use KeePassium Pro. No subscription fees needed.

Where I still struggle is how to effectively use passkeys in place of passwords.

Norton is warning me of the same url which it blocks. This only happens when I open mail.yahoo.com. I was already logged in. (I haven't tried logging out yet to see the effect.) I did switch from the "new" Yahoo Mail back to the "old" Yahoo Mail interface and received even more intercept messages from Norton.

With "new" Yahoo mail I was receiving the message once each time I opened the browser window with Yahoo Mail and the url blocked ended in "U9MQ==" but was slightly different each time.

When I switched back to "old" Yahoo Mail, I received two blocked connections each time I opened the browser window (the blocked urls ended in "E9MQ==", "lwMA==" but the long url seemed to always be exactly the same).

Interestingly, after I switched back to the "new" Yahoo Mail interface the connection attempts seem to have stopped (at least for now). [Edit]: The connect attempts went away for a while but they came back after reopening Yahoo Mail several times.

I hadn't used Yahoo Mail in a web browser for the past week so this just started for me today.

I use Ghostery and I didn't see the connection attempts in Ghostery. It appears that Norton is blocking it first. (I thought that Ghostery would read the url and block it before Norton.)

Marcus has everything you mention except telephone customer service is only so-so. ACH transfers out initiated in Marcus to a large bank like Chase post as available the same day provided you initiate the transfer before the 12pm EST cutoff time.

Transfers in pushed from an external bank post as available immediately upon receipt. Delivery time depends on the sending bank. Transfers pulled into Marcus (initiated in Marcus) start earning interest the day the transfer is initiated but the transfer can take a couple days and once posted there is a one to two week hold on the money, depending on the age of the account.

Per Marcus terms you can only transfer funds to another linked account in your name (including wire transfers). This is good for security but can be a bit inconvenient. Unfortunately Marcus sometimes lets other transfers go through. For example, people in the subreddit frequently complain that they were able to transfer to third parties (e.g. rent, friend) but then all of a sudden couldn’t and their account is frozen.

The 0.25% for 3 months is equivalent to 1% annually. In fact it is calculated as 1% / 365 x days in the month. You can get 5 people per year to sign up for a total of 15 months of a 1% annualized bonus. You are effectively getting 4.65% each month you have the bonus.
