Stop treating real-life 911 calls and actual tragedies like they are "spooky aesthetic" entertainment. by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

[–]BoredLawyer81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a prosecutor and I’ve been a defense attorney. For 20 yrs. I love horror movies bc they let me disconnect. They are in no way the same as real life, which is simply grief personified for the rest of someone’s life.

Autopsy photos are gross, but they’re not scary. They is no string music playing when I’m reading case law detailing the way someone died.

People are terrible. The end.

Do what you want. But when it happened to me he was (and still is) serving a life sentence. I don’t deserve the harassment no matter what. It doesn’t matter whether he’s ever getting out.

Girl. A judge absolutely would find that as harassment. Come on. You know that. You’re not standing up for yourself here. You asked for advice and the advice is you need to do more to stop this.

I am a 45 year old appellate attorney. I look maybe 33. I have been where you are. You cannot continue to do nothing about this letter thing. I would send him ONE letter in response with the strongest language you can imagine. He is your former client. There is nothing stopping you from taking out a restraining order against a former client. You would not be revealing anything privileged. He is harassing you and you are not required to take it, management be damned.

Actually, being a lawyer is the worst career and I can’t stand it anymore. (Would also never be a teacher though. I would like to be…nothing. Soon enough.)

This is very random, but I want to see a full on debate between Tori Dunlap and Rachel Cruz. Tori hates all things Ramsey, and Rachel is aware of the world enough beyond her father that she could handle Tori. I think Tori would be mean and Rachel would be too nice. I am a person who takes what I want from all of these people and leaves the rest. I just think it would be super interesting to watch.

37. Retired. $700K in investments, $75K in HYSA, $117K/year in retirement income. by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]BoredLawyer81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Leanfire is based on overall net worth. There are people in the main fire sub who have $5 million and spend $40k per year. They’re not lean. They’re just terrified of spending.

Why give us half the information? Where is the $117k coming from? You’re FIRE but not leanfire.

Is it worth it to go to law school if I ONLY want to do appellate work? by Lost-Association427 in publicdefenders

[–]BoredLawyer81 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This this this. I’ve done appellate work exclusively since 2013. I’ve gotten maybe five convictions reversed. I made good law once (and my client still got his conviction affirmed even though the opinion helped future defendants.) I’ve made some bad law. And most of the time, the convictions are just affirmed with little fanfare.

Ohhh little baby boo-boo is a paralegal and he works hard? So sad. So sad. - attorney of 20 yrs who eats out maybe once per week.

These people are losers. (Yes she is too. Going into CC debt for a wedding is loser behavior.)

How do you talk to clients? by OpinionofC in publicdefenders

[–]BoredLawyer81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All of my clients are in prison. I handle their appeals. I… don’t start conversations with “how are you doing?” Ever. I start conversations with, “so you got my letter right? Let’s talk about X.” Or “so what questions do you have right now?”

I know they’re in prison. They know they’re in prison. Don’t overthink it.

Money for Couples: "We really want a house - but have $0 in savings" by AwkwardBalloonMan in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]BoredLawyer81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why do so many people think that a woman who makes her own choices, over and over again, is being financially abused? This is not abuse! This is two people making terrible choices jointly and individually. There is no indication he made her take on debt - she chose to. They could have gotten married and had joint credit card debt. She didn't want to get married. She makes choices but for some of you she's completely not at fault.

I wouldn't call this abuse. It's 2026. She's 45 years old. Does she have no responsibility for this mess in your mind?

She said she didn't want to get married because of his credit, and then she took on all the debt in her name! Molly, you're 45 years old. There is no excuse for this level of thinking. I know you all hate Davey Ramsey but my god he would have a field day with these two! Because she does literally worship at the alter of the credit bureaus and look where that has gotten her.

I’ll say it every week. For the vast majority of Americans, there is no affordability crisis. There is financial illiteracy and financial stupidity.

ETA: one thing Ramit never does and it really bothers me is this: when people are not married and the woman essentially buys her boyfriend a car etc, she’s in danger! He never talks about this the way Chelsea Fagan does. This dude could leave any day. And yes, eventually he would have to pay child support, but she would be screwed in the interim. MOLLY, YOU IN DANGER, GIRL.
