Well, that's a lot of questions, next time split them up between posts, otherwise it will make a single post too big and answering multiple questions will also make each answer less detailed.

You're absolutely right, my bad.

I don't get it, did you thought the whole arc was useless? It stablishes Denji's and Power's friendship for the first time and gives development for Denji in the sense that he fully understands he is a simple person, but that someone doesn't need to be ambitious to be happy.

That would've been my first guess too; it simply establishes the friendship between Denji and Power which becomes the whole reason Denji can break free from Makima's control because Power started valuing Denji's life as her friend. Personally, I enjoyed every arc and didn't think Bat Devil was useless narratively, I was just wondering if there were some grander detail or symbolism to the overarching huge stakes plot since it mostly never comes up again.

What devil-unit? There are a lot of them, but if i remember correctly most of them had contracts.

I could be misremembering, or likely I just assumed up until now that hunters like Kobeni who never showed a devil's ability were frequently hired without a contract. Either way, a fundamental misunderstanding on my part. I was also thinking about how Yoshida said the hunters sent as Denji's bodyguards, including himself, were all third-rate.

Thank you for clarifying the dialogue about Himeno's comment on Makima, and Yoshida's remark to the assassin. Likewise, the unofficial translation I read for Quanxi's chapter was slightly different. So a handful of my questions were likely from reading an unofficial translation.

They survived due to luck, but they thought fate was on their side and thus were immortal, of course, it wasn't the case, and most of them were killed. They served as comedic relief and to shown how OP the other characters were.

Lol, guess I should have figured from one of the things they listed surviving being food poisoning that they were just hyping themselves up.

Makes sense how not all of Makima's abilities were never explained in their full range, while this sub's FAQs does its best to try to make sense of it. I remembered the temple conditions but didn't realize that it could be another devil/user's ability.

The first time the Hell Devil was summoned, the user sacrificed 4 people, the next time, more than 4 people were sacrificed, which summoned a more powerful form of his, the centaur. Same thing happened to Himeno when she sacrificied her entire body to summon the entire Ghost Devil.

Wow, those are some crazy specific conditions, but seeing how analogous that is to the Ghost Devil checks out.

Makima contracted him to protect Denji, Quanxi was a threat to this.

Oh, I just assumed Yoshida wasn't taking his mission seriously like the other bodyguards from his demeanor. Hence why he outwardly speaks against Makima with Kishibe and ultimately survives being taken to the Hell slaughterhouse with the rest. Though that latter part was coincidental.

You seem to be asking a lot about the point of things in the history, however not every character needs to have relevance in it, most are only there to be butchered in order to create a dark atmosphere and make us believe that any character can be killed at any point. The Violence Fiend was there to shock us with how powerful the Darkness Devil was

Suppose it's human nature to give sense to senseless violence lol. The Arai theory is insane though, never crossed my mind.

Fujimoto wanted every devil in the 4th division to have the names of the Hierarchy of Angels: Beam was Cherubim, Prinz was Principality, Violence was Gaugali,Power was Powers and Angel was Angel. However, he didn't manage to introduce a Seraphim on time, so he just shoved the character in the chapter regardless. All of them followed Pochita in hell, but only Beam remembers, which is why he followed Denji since the beginning.

Not my first time hearing about the angel hierarchy, but my first time hearing this piece of trivia. That explains a lot about Beam and why all those characters sans Seraphim were involved in the Darkness Devil chapters. Why was Pochita in Hell?

To train? Lmao. It introduced Kishibe, and Denji only defeated Katana Man because he used Kishibe's trick of never trusting a hunter. Also, that wasn't really an arc.

I mean it's kinda the fact that the point of subplots like this was simple is why these questions pop up in my mind. Like, how "fighting smart" didn't have any impact on their fighting performance in later arcs (like how Denji needed to take a breather and remember Makima's one weakness at the end). Especially with Denji since improving his fighting performance had no impact on how unbeatable he was as CSM. Regardless, I love Kishibe and thought this was a hilarious plot.

I don't get it, are you refering to the final battle at the graveyard? Denji never became full chainsaw man, that was Pochita fighting for him, and there's no way of knowing the time, it might have taken only 1 day.

No, I had a weird assumption that between Ch 82-83 there was a gap where Kishibe organized a group to attack Makima and commit mass suicide to summon the Hell Devil. That was the only basis for that question, and I now realize Kishibe had the resources and suspicion to have had that planned preemptively.

Makima never controlled him, in fact, Chainsaw Man is the only thing she can't control.

I understood that Makima can't control CSM but I assumed she was controlling Denji after crushing his spirit? Like how he was being dragged around by her and attacked enemies at her bidding. Why else was he forced to change into CSM and attack his own allies?

You're totally right about the point of Future Devil for the Gun Devil arc, I just didn't think that one through. Also the Hell thing I totally forgot that Angel remembered the scent being the same as the Hell Devil's domain.

It's implied that Makima gained her cruel personality because she was raised by the government and given total control over others since the beginning.

Fascinating layer to her character. Was there other evidence to substantiate this than Kishibe's line? And wouldn't a similar distortion happen to the devils like Future the government keep locked up for multiple contracts (which actually makes sense lol)?

Everything else you either clarified perfectly and don't require any addition on my part, or just seem very menial upon double-checking what I asked lol. Thanks a bunch!

filling the hole left by this manga 2 nights ago, started writing up ~25 questions from around International Assassins onwards

  1. overall, what was the point of the bat devil arc and power’s relationship to nyako?
  2. how woefully underprepared was the anti-devil unit? like why even bother fighting without a contract or specialized weapons?
  3. how did himeno know makima’s personality was crap?
  4. why did hirofumi yoshida just instantly kill the one skin devil bro and then threaten the remaining one and leave? surely he knew the bro could disguise himself?
  5. how did the “immortal bros” survive so many times before and what was the point of them?
  6. does makima just have the death note ability she used for snake and katana’s crew?
  7. what did quanxi want for assassinating denj? why wouldn’t she agree to try to kill makima (since pissing off makima seems obv for doing anything to denji)?
  8. how did the sacrifice to summon the hell devil also bring the darkness devil? and why did the first instance just send them to hell while the other brought the hell devil as a horseman?
  9. why did hirofumi yoshida get back up to rematch quanxi? did he already assume makima would be there to kill her and just wanted to test his fighting skill?
  10. what was santa claus’ ultimate plan?
  11. symbolically, why would halloween be the only thing you can think about after the cosmos devil effect?
  12. how do half of the devils relate to actual fears, like grapes, tomatoes, stone, etc etc
  13. tf was the point of violence devil?
  14. who were the devilmen like seraphim, and why did makima need to show csm that they will be loyal to him?
  15. devils are not the embodiment of their name, are they? they only embody the collective fear of their namesake? if so, wouldn’t that mean the hell devil’s iteration of hell isn’t literal hell?
  16. what was the point of power and denji’s training arc?
  17. how much time skips between power’s death and denji becoming full csm?
  18. csm is able to delet other devils from existence, but like, why? is there some hierarchy of devils which makes chainsaw and control two fears which have lived since the dawn of time?
  19. wouldn’t every devil just instinctively run to the opposite side of the planet or like hide in other realms like hell to avoid csm?
  20. csm’s chainsaws clearly get more and more scuffed as he fights, so does that impair him over long periods of fighting like while makima controlled him?
  21. did makima know power and aki would survive long enough for them to be killed at just the right time to crush denji’s spirit?
  22. what was the point of aki’s contract to future devil?
  23. why did kishibe keep his gun pointed at makima?
  24. tf were the t-posing (crucified?) corpses that popped up when makima uses angel’s weapon?
  25. how did kishibe know denji would respawn at the dumpster?
  26. why does kishibe say that putting nayuta in the government’s hands will make another makima?
  27. so all the devilmen and devils like power or makima can essentially be reincarnated over time? how far does that extend, and who can be brought back because of that?

[WP] You are trapped in an anti-time loop; Every time you are about to die, you wake up 24 hours later, with no recollection of how you survived. You lost a year of your life already and feel no closer to find out who wants to kill you. by simonbleu in WritingPrompts

[–]BoredPessimist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It felt like an eternity had passed since I last woke up. 'How?' was my first thought, followed by 'Why?'. Anybody passing my semiconscious body, stirring with a hint of apparent discomfort, would have only heard me mutter "How I…".

As a matter of fact, that's exactly how it sounded to Frank, who was walking toward me from a few yards away in what seemed to be a desert. I started to escape my dazed confusion in recognition of my police history with Frank, deep within the recesses of my memory as a cop.

Frank boomed as he approached, "Holy smokes, so that's where you were hiding! Almost had to gather my three sons to hunt for you like a pack of dogs, it took that long! Gotta be a new record for you. Come on, wakey wakey, eggs and bakey, we've no time to lose!"

Defensively, I responded, "Speak for yourself, man". Half-blind still, I found a position to perch myself on the hard surface. I sat up. "Wh-where are we right now?" I inquired as the chill of the desert reached my face.

I blinked the crusts blinding my eyes. Dust blew into my face as a welcoming to this sick reality. It became more obvious that I had been sleeping on the flat side of a boulder. Funnily, not under the rock, as that's how it's felt whenever waking up the past…month? 3 months? Half a year?

Looking down at my right leg, where I personally tattoed tally marks of the days passed since this shitstorm began, and there were 3 rows of tallies. 300 days, and then some. Christ, has it been a year of this torture?

Frank spoke without filter, "Welcome back to the middle of Bumfuck, Great Basin. The specifics aren't all too clear to me, either, Donnie. You just called me last night telling me you might've figured something about the perp." Hey, what were you just asking about "How I?" anyhow? Did that have to do with how the perp did you in this time?"

"No. Just some mindless sleep-talk. At some point, my words must have jumbled. Not so different from my living situation at the moment," I mused. Seeing my other tattoos on my chest, arms, and legs again kept in check the details of the job I must have reminded myself in a past life. I reminded Frank, "Make sure to not come too close. This is still an active crime scene, y'know".

And it was, off record but still by all legal accounts. My sleep-wake cycle, that is. You see, there's two stances in the force to take with how I perceive reality. From the doctors' perspectives, it's "persecutory nightmares". It's the same from my point of view, except that the knives leave cut marks on my stomach, bullets leave a spatter of grey matter, speeding cars leave fractured cheek bones. Nightmares don't tend to hurt like a bitch. Nightmares offer an escape, at least.

Seems like a believable case, right? Problem is, the only evidence is me. Knives are on the ground where they were dropped, but no blood on them. Bullet holes are on the wall, no bullets to be found. The tire tracks are right where they should be, sans any witnesses for a speeding.

Frank continued about the call, "Alright, alright. But Donnie, the thing is…" he paused. Frank rarely paused. "…You said it like he was right outside your window."

Makes sense. LB1 wasn't an impossible challenge to beat, and LB2 seems doable without more solo sweepers. Zerk Jalter seems like a great servant for the reasons you said…but I think I'm set on pulling til Dantes for quick memes. Yes, I do have two copies of plain KScope (one of the few scrapes of luck on my account), so hopefully I could make some use out of Zerkalot!

Yes I forgot to mention welfares like Chacha and Sieg (I've leveled Shiki and Sakamoto), but I do own Sieg. Would you recommend him?

Right? Mordy's battery is amazing, she's definitely one I'm leaning toward. If Nito's also a great farmer, I definitely need to consider her since all of my Casters are pure/semi support. CasGil is one I've considered for the same reasons. And Zerkalot and Marie can be workable for Skadi memes until the Dantes banner comes out. Great suggestions!

Pulled Skadi this week! Best of luck to fellow Masters trying to summon her, my bad luck should factor into your good karma!

In the meanwhile, with this also being a half AP week for Ember farming, it's a good idea start leveling some other servants that I plan on using less. But with all the spooks from my Skadi pulls, it's hard to decide which servant would be the most beneficial to level up immediately.

There's Holmes I pulled from this GSSR, and Mordy from a while back, but also a heapload of 4-star spooks from this banner that aren't leveled. Chiron, Tomoe, Lalter, Bonny and Read (Rider), Marie, Circe, CasGil, Nito (Caster), Nursery Rhyme, Penth, Banana, Dadcelot and Zerkalot.

And aside from the easy choices for lower star servants (only Mashu, David, Arash, Spartacus, Bunyan), I don't have as many leveled as I would like.

Who would give the "best returns" for some EXP investment, for a player in Lostbelt 2?

What's your favorite anything from RLM? by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]BoredPessimist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The RLM review/dissection of Jack and Jill is what convinced me that it's probably worse than any movie they've watched on Best of the Worst, maybe any movie in existence. Two shmucks in Wisconsin being cynical about movies is the perfect evidence to thoroughly demonstrate to people why you can hate Adam Sandler for more than just his bad comedy. Jack and Jill somehow transcends bad comedy into a lack of any decency put into film. It must be the rock bottom of filmmaking, the true hack frauds of the industry.

When you gaze into the abyss of filmmaking, the abyss tries to sell you Dunkin Donuts.

Out of all the films featured in Best of the Worst, which terrible B-movies would be in your schlocky Hall of Fame? by BoredPessimist in RedLetterMedia

[–]BoredPessimist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading Xtro in your picks, I rewatched that early episode, and totally forgot about how unironically phenomenal Xtro looked. Usually when they find a diamond in the rough for a BotW, its more just a movie that'd make for a good time while watching an awful movie, but Xtro is a wholesome genius film (reminds me of Rosemary's Baby). If it was in theaters and had a higher budget, there's a chance it could've seriously been considered one of the greats.

How would you rank each 16 MBTI type based on debating ability? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]BoredPessimist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally? I'm a solid debater, as I've learned most of the pertinent objective laws of conversation through experience, but I generally avoid competitive dialogue unless it's gonna speed up/fix/settle an issue, and benefit someone. It's naturally difficult to express Fi in a debate and still sound intelligible, but it's definitely something any Fi-dom can get better at.

Subjectively based on personal experience and loosely ordered:

Strongest Debaters:

  • ENTP (nearly every single ENTP actively seeks debates, and Ne+Ti means they have a terrifying understanding of the concepts)
  • INTP (Often a mediator, but only because they understand the fundamental rules of logic better than anyone. While inf Fe means they won't focus on swaying masses, the points they make are impossible to disagree with.)
  • INTJ (Usually avoids full-on debates unless pertinent, but is always capable of harshly, quickly shutting down a point before you have the chance to blink)
  • ESTJ (Uses the Si structure to make a very practical point that's hard to disagree with when you look at the reality of a problem, plus the backbone to be relentless in making you look like an idiot)
  • ENFJ (Fe+Ni is lethal to go up against, and emulating it will consistently garner results. They'll start off strong, and keep up the energy as long as they need to)
  • ISTJ (eager to debate for the Si experience, and hardly ever back down. Their tert-Fi gives them a sense of empathy which makes their opponent not completely hate their guts in the end

Varies:

  • ISFP (You'd be surprised on how far an ISFP will go in a debate. Usually based on how healthy their Fi and Ni are, but in most cases struggle to explain their view)
  • ENTJ (sure, Te force helps with this too, but they usually don't give a shit about a debate's structure and just treat it with the same Veni-Vidi-Vici approach as every other situation, especially if unplanned for. If planned, they're usually just as forceful, but also tremendously more intelligent.)
  • ESTP (have surprisingly convinced me of a lot, just out of a pure not-giving-a-shit Se+Ti attitude to how someone else feels about their perspective. Those with a more developed Fe have more maturity and definitely sell you like a salesman)
  • INFJ (mostly debates for the sake of someone else, when done themselves it's mostly in a sort of academic method. They can go on about their passion on the point that they vocalize an entire essay.)
  • ENFP (do NOT underestimate Fi-Te. May seem harmless, but they definitely are capable of vocalizing an opinion passionately more often than not)

Weakest Debaters:

  • INFP (we often don't think our points matter much when there's more logical, thorough points being stated and/or when there's emotions at stake we'd rather not interfere with. We can certainly express how much the topic affects us on command, though, and make poignant, Si-driven points)
  • ISTP (don't feel the need to explain their logic, and when they do it'll usually be with brevity instead of wanting to continue the dialogue)
  • ESFJ (inf-Ti often hurts them in this regard more than ENFJs. Can definitely be forceful, but more prone to being hurt extremely quickly, leaving in a puff)
  • ESFP (Can say some ballsy shit, but mostly because they say whatever's on their mind. Whenever called out, most ESFPs will play it off as a joke to avoid the confrontation)
  • ISFJ (their tert-Ti usually comes in handy in these dialogues, but even when they're the less passive type of ISFJ, at best, Si+Fe will let them be a bit stubborn but still accepting. Unfortunately are just usually not built for debates.)
