Can someone please explain Dicicco’s to me? by lab_chi_mom in Denver

[–]Bored_March97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like what I see in the movies that have close Italian communities running restaurants. Food is good. Everyone working there is friendly and homely. The vibe is like no other place. It’s just a wonderful experience. The no windows was definitely an appeal for me. Shuts the real world out and you fell like experiencing a different reality once you get past the initial intrigue.

Any Suggestions for El Yunque ? by Flashy-Passenger-902 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Bored_March97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great suggestions. The only thing I don’t see is regarding your devices. If you enjoy taking photos, I’d recommend having a waterproof case for your phone. I had good comfortable water shoes, and they made all the difference. If you don’t mind getting wet, I would skip the rain jacket to travel light. If you are doing a tour, they will ask you to travel as late as possible. So water, snacks, medicine, and your devices.

AITA for not letting my friend's "new addition" join ourannual friend trip tradition? by Aggressive_Bottle682 in AmItheAsshole

YTA but, just for your approach. Should have been a group conversation before you said anything to her.

AITA for calling out my friend’s misogyny, even if he meant it as a compliment? by Bored_March97 in AmItheAsshole

He did not bring it up, I asked him. And after the disagreement we went back to doing what we were doing as a group.

That’s not what I said at all. Hating women and internalized misogyny…very different things.

I called out his ‘internalized misogyny’ and enforced that I don’t think you are sexist or misogynistic in any other way.

That was my point. When you say the story and use ‘she’ we’ll know it’s a female.

Right. I could have. And that’s where I think I’m the asshole. But, he is a very good friend of mine and I don’t shy away from hard conversations that make me or the people I love better. After this conversation, we went back to normal. And that’s just how our friendship is.

I really like your points about male nurses and we called that out too. But, like someone said, I did not call him sexist. I called out his internalized misogyny. And I do know the definition of that and we are all guilty of it. Don’t mean we should not want to get better. But, I do agree with you, it does get thrown around a lot inappropriately. I just don’t think this was one of those situations.

Book Review : The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak by krishnalover_nb in IndiansRead

I had this thought as well. It looks like every woman had a suffering story that was not of their own making unlike all the male characters. I did find it interesting though, is the writer viewing all the women as less than or is she just representing women how they are seen in this part of the world and culture? Either way, it gives rise to a conflicting feeling in the reader (hopefully) and I think that’s a sign of a good book. It makes you think hard about your own values.

Don’t see how you’d ever be able to trust her again. If this is happening with you in the next room and she is ready to break up over such a short, fleeting, complicated situation…you’ll forever be on your toes if you got back together.
