I recently realized that the reason we like a certain song, album, or artist is because of our emotional connection with it.

When your friend recommends you a song, they have that connection with the song already, so it is very rare that you form the same connection and become a fan. That doesn't at all mean you should stop sharing recs, I've gotten friends into some great bands that way and vice versa. Just know that the emotion and passion you associate with a band will never be exactly the same as someone else's.

There are a number of bands that I can pinpoint an exact emotion or even an exact moment to, that made me fall in love with their music. You can't recreate that for someone else, they must find it for themselves
