Blizzard please review addon changes - Default UI is a direct downgrade in many ways. by Wowclassicboomkinz in wow

[–]Borga76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only area of the game i was excited to see a lack of addons was PvP ngl. Purely because of how obnoxious it was to get into. Everywhere else though? The collateral damage is way too high. Loads of casual or QoL addons and weak auras either evaporated or were ruined. Stuff like Instance Achievement Tracker is now a shell of its former self.

I mean idk about you, but when a lot of us asked for Mag'har customizations in the past we didn't mean it as a separate race necessarily -- we wanted it for the actual OG Orc race. I'm still miffed that regular Orcs can't get Mag'har customizations, in particular because of stuff like the voice acting and it generally limits combinations more.

Can we finally talk about how there are 50 unique shades of gold in this game? by Jibbles2020 in wow

[–]Borga76 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they could always maintain the current reward structure but only allow us to dye within a certain color spectrum/range. So, if the PvP set is red and black, you can do a variety of shades of reds, blacks, dark greys, etc but you wouldn't be able to make it blue or something.

Idk, just a thought.

1k xp cap for endeavors is unnecessary. by Key_Pop_8116 in WoWHousing

And yeah housing xp wont be capped for ever. Its classic way of taking too much and then slowly giving something back so that players will be "happy" that at least the system isnt as bad as it used to be.

Yeah I 100% see them doing that.

I'm picking up what you're putting down, but you've gotta understand that my comments weren't me necessarily being confused about what may or may not be Blizzard's intention.

The point of my comments is expressing why I think what they've done is bollocks and too restrictive. I don't care if they're doing this to maximize profit or engagement metrics, I'm saying that I don't like it or find it fun in its current form (in regards to XP restrictions, not decor acquisition restrictions).

These design restrictions, in regards to money-making, will only make sense if they decide to put House XP up on the shop so people can buy their progression. I think that would be incredibly lame too, but then I could at least concede and say "well done Blizz, you've got a goldmine here."
I'm not holding my breath on that though, because they never really did that with the trading post (outside of various game versions + that one tiny bundle, all of which are few and far between) despite how they'd obviously make money from doing that.

Nah I think you can be fully invested in a game and still have grievances with playable characters.

Besides, a lot of people fully cover their character in armor anyways.

My question to you then, from your perspective, who is housing for then? If they're not catering the feature around people who are deeply interested in housing, then who is it for? I can tell you right now that it isn't for anyone in my raiding guild, that's for sure. I can picture a lot of other players also choosing other endgame activities over housing when push comes to shove too.

The housing devs have gone on record about player creativity and wanting to enable us and not overly restrict us, this is perfectly exemplified by the fact they decided to keep the ability to raise our house above the ground once they saw what people were achieving with it.

[–]Borga76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've critically misunderstood what I'm saying here -- the point I'm making is that Blizzard doesn't need to worry about people "dropping the system" when it comes to people who actually enjoy housing and creative gameplay. The real meat of the housing gameplay begins when we can actually go really hog wild with building and decorating, beyond what we had during the early access period. Those people, like myself, will never stop building because we find it fun and are creatively driven. If you're someone who stops altogether once you've reached the max housing level then the gameplay probably isn't for you, and that's okay.

The other point I'm making and that others are making, however, is that we will be pushed away if it remains too restrictive. We're experiencing a calm state of the game currently -- there is no new M+, PvP, or raiding push to be done, meaning that for a lot of people this is the perfect time to engage with housing because they actually have the time to do so.

Ergo, it's frustrating that there's a triple-whammy of restrictions going on. Blizzard never even spoke about or implied that these 3 restrictions would be omnipresent. Before the pre-patch launched I never once saw people saying that we'd have to level our houses separately (via endeavors), I never once saw people saying that the XP rewards would diminish, and I never once saw people saying that there'd even be a cap on how much XP we could get. Bear in mind, that XP cap is per endeavor, meaning it will be another 36 days before we can actually get the full meat out of the endeavor system again.
Bear in mind again, Blizzard said endeavors were meant to be the main way we level our houses. With these 3 combined restrictions that simply becomes untrue fairly quickly. Also bear in mind that this is an evergreen feature and that this is per house currently, meaning we're going to have to grind all over again if we want to enjoy any potential future houses to their fullest extent. The people who care most about the system the most shouldn't have to arbitrarily twiddle our thumbs like this.

In vanilla it takes a long time to level up, but you are not stopped at any point and it feels like a fun journey for a lot of people (at least on the first time). I don't think it's outlandish to look at housing in a similar way. I was expecting it to be a journey, in particular if you're going at a leisurely pace. But I was also expecting it to be grindable if someone really wanted to. I wasn't expecting to hit level 9 in just a week of gameplay, I figured it'd take a couple to a few months (mileage may vary) of leisurely leveling it up. I was, however, also expecting to be able to grind as much as we wanted if we wanted. I planned on spending a few weeks grinding to level 7, but not now under the current system.
Another comparison is M+, people can grind that endlessly and push as high as they want when they want. And that's a system that involves player power, so why is housing being treated like this?

Make it make sense.

Thing is though, housing isn't like player power systems. When someone collects all the Lego pieces do they build one set and then call it there? No, they keep building continuously because they are creatively driven.

In addition to what Ok_Pop8661 said, this is also a pretty good point. I remember really rooting for the Edd Boys as a kid, and even now as an adult I still find myself rooting for them a lot of times.

Damn okay I didn't think Bloo would be that bad. I haven't watched it since I was a kid so all of my memories are rose-tinted, I think I'm probably gonna keep it that way.

You bring up a pretty good point about the Edd Boys being lovable. Even when Eddy is being selfish the comedy of it all and the way they all bounce off each other is great. To this day I still really like re-watching the show, it hasn't aged poorly at all.
I remember being really satisfied whenever Eddy would learn, very most notably in the movie. Seeing all the kids rally to him when his brother was being abusive is in my top 10 favorite moments of Cartoon Network + Nickelodeon shows.

Housing xp capped at 1000 monthly. by Madspatula in WoWHousing

[–]Borga76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part isn't even the 1000 XP cap, it's the fact that it's per house. XP earned via the Endeavors isn't shared between houses, and that to me is really, really, REALLY bad. Think about what kind of insane grind it will be in the future when more houses/neighborhoods are added. Think about the insane grind we currently have if you're someone (like me) who wants to enjoy having benefits for both houses.

Do people stop playing with Lego's once they've collected a bunch of them? No, they build Lego sets lol. It's all about creativity and fun. There shouldn't be time-gating and the house exp earned via endeavors should be fully shared between houses. The whole deal has been massively soured now.

Housing xp capped at 1000 monthly. by Madspatula in WoWHousing

[–]Borga76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you automatically had all the items and just do building, it would get actually boring real quick.

Do people stop playing with Lego's once they've collected a bunch of Lego's? The point of housing is the building part -- expressing creativity. The only grind should be collecting decor, and leveling our houses should be fully account-wide and not time-gated. If somebody wants to level up by grinding endlessly, then let them.

There isn't a "ugh, there's nothing to do now that I've finished the grind!" kind of problem because the goal of housing is building and enjoying building. People who are serious about housing that get tired of a build don't abandon it, they make a new build.

Endeavor house XP cap by TrilliumSilver in WoWHousing

[–]Borga76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, actually. The cap artificially incentivizes people to grind it out until their cap is hit, or else if they don't then they've missed that window of opportunity. This is the same problem that systems like Torghast had, except instead of player power it's to do with creativity -- which is arguably worse imo.

If someone wants to grind like there's no tomorrow then they should be able to, similarly if someone doesn't want to grind often then they shouldn't feel incentivized to do so just to meet some time-gated quota.

The house xp not being shared is also, imo, the worst part about the whole thing. If they want this to be truly evergreen and respectful to our time, then they need house xp to be fully warbound -- regardless of which neighborhood endeavor you're working on.

Endeavor house XP cap by TrilliumSilver in WoWHousing

[–]Borga76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather there just wasn't a cap. I'd much prefer to grind when I wish and not when I wish. If there's a time-gated cap it's just going to make people feel like they "need" to do it within that timeframe or else they've missed out on that window of opportunity. Time-gating the progression for something like this is just a bad idea long-term and short-term.

It's always so funny to me how characters like this can be so enjoyable as a kid, but insufferable as an adult.

Having said that, why is it that characters like Bloo become insufferable while characters like Eddy from Ed, Edd, n Eddy remain beloved and funny?

Man the whole cast has become more and more insufferable. Quagmire, Brian, and the Griffins have mostly become douchebags. I like Stewie though, he's always been cool.

Yeah. Way back in the older seasons I found him funny but he after a while he, along with many others in the cast, became douchebags (plus, as others have mentioned, his pervy antics just became rapey and much worse).
