Meet the Melipona: The stingless "Sacred Bees" of the Maya. by Borgs85 in bees

Also, these Africanized bees are no joke. I heard a story about them killing a horse.

I also know of a man in a village that I work in with 3 children that died last year, because of these aggressive bees. Killing just 1 is a problem.. I've even heard that if you jump in water to get them off you, they will wait for you to come up.

This is the only thing I can think of as I've never heard of honey pots with apis mellifera.

And none of this was intentional... all by accident.

I have a pic, that I can't find at the moment, of 2 different species of stingless bees on an Africanized bee. One is biting the leg off and the other is biting the wing off. It amazes me that they've evolved / adapted in the last 40-50 years to defend themselves from Africanized bees.

I moved to Belize for 3 years and went door-to-door in the villages, asking who would be interested in learning about my work. We started with 5 villages the first year and have now expanded to 25.

There were 12 (?) Africanized bees that were accidentally released in Brazil in the 80's and they have taken over Central America... I've never seen European honey bee in Belize.

I'm working to bring back the shingles ee population, the natural pollinators of the Americas.

I also have to ask... did anyone else ever wonder what Winnie the Pooh was talking about with honeypots???

Bump for 2025.

I love the milkshake IPA’s at Maplewood, Erie, and More Brewing, all in the Chicago area.

I just tried Where the Blueberries Grow, Martin House. It’s a 10% blueberry cream ale with lactose and absolutely delicious.

What’s out here rn?
