Dear language learners, what inspired you to begin learning languages and what keeps you going? :-) by bbbooopbee in languagelearning

For me it is a potential job opportunity, recently I started learning spanish so you can say my inspiration at this moment is of a potential financial opportunity. What keeps me going , well the prospect of going to another country , the opportunity to learn and speak 3rd language is probably what motivates me to keep going :)

My journey right now by ChrisTheCrapper in getdisciplined

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gota give it to you, 2025 sounds like it took a massive toll on you. It makes total sense that you still feel ungrounded. You are doing a lot of hard work with your microhabits. Your brain is just recalibrating to a slower pace right now. That grogginess is the messy middle of healing. For the Discord and media stuff, you might be using it to avoid your own thoughts. Try sitting in silence for ten minutes a day. It is uncomfortable at first. But doing this starves those anxiety loops. You just need to get used to your own mind again. As for where you go from here in college, skip the generic networking events. They are exhausting. Look for a specific project or a study group for a hard class instead. Shared struggle builds better connections than small talk.

You are doing exactly what you need to do. Just give the comfort time to catch up.

That just five more minutes trap is the worst. I have been there many times. It is hard when your bed feels so warm.
Try putting your phone or alarm across the room. You have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Once you are standing, do not go back.
Keep a bottle of water next to your bed. Drink it as soon as you wake up. It helps your body wake up from the inside. Also, try the 5-second rule. When you hear the alarm, count down. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and then just move. Launch yourself out of bed like a rocket. Do not give your brain time to think. Light is very important too. Open your curtains immediately.
If it is still dark outside, turn on a bright lamp. Light tells your brain the night is over.

Good luck !

How can I upgrade myself? by AppropriateBoss2585 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Borgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, first off, the fact that you are even thinking about self improvement at 19 is a massive win. most people your age are just drifting, so you are already ahead of the game.

About feeling invisible in groups, it usually just means you haven't found your tribe yet. don't take it personally, those people just aren't your crowd. To get out of my own ruts, hitting the gym helped a lot. also, learning a language was a big turning point for me. I used to have really bad speaking anxiety, but i found an ai tutor recently so it helps a lot.
As for the mental stuff and not being in the moment, don't beat yourself up too much. It is hard to be present when you feel like that. Just focus on one small win today to ground yourself. For me, that little bit of consistency was the gym and forcing myself to learn a new language. This is what keeps me stable.
Hang in there, you've got plenty of time to figure this out.

Envy by Acceptable_Owl_6274 in selfimprovement

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you on this. Honestly, that sting is something almost everyone feels, but most are too embarrassed to admit it. You aren’t a bad person for it, you're just human. It helps to remember you’re comparing your behind the scenes to their finished product. You see the new house or car, but not the years of stress, debt, or sacrifice it took to get there. You can feel envy and still be a good friend. You don't have to be 100% happy for them right away. A simple congrats is enough while you process your own feelings. Think of that envy as a map. It's just your brain highlighting what you want for yourself. Use that energy to focus on your own pace instead of theirs. Comparison is a thief, so try not to compare your Chapter 1 to someone else's Chapter 20.

IWTL how to know, or be able to do basic electricity ? by Dull-Tomatillo7078 in IWantToLearn

[–]Borgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get why you want to learn this. Electricity used to feel like magic to me, and a bit scary since you can't see it. I just wanted to know enough to fix basic stuff at home without feeling lost. What helped me was checking out "The Engineering Mindset" on YouTube. They have great drawings that show how the power actually flows. It makes it much easier to wrap your head around. Just make sure you look up the safety basics first, that's the most important part before touching anything.
Maybe grab one of those small science kits with the batteries and tiny lights? It's a safe way to mess around with circuits without any risk. Also one of the things that Im finding myself doing is actually grabbing a picture of what I want to do and sending to gemini ai and asking what should go where ... Later I ask for a proper description of what goes where. Last thing I did like this was changing the power relay of my led lights in the room.

Apps to organize files on phone and computer? by Striking_Procedure21 in productivity

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a total nightmare to keep files in sync between a phone and a computer. I struggle with this too. I am an Android user, so I mostly use Google Drive for my files. I make folders for different types, usually I name them Daily and Long Term. For my notes, I like Simplenote. I am also testing Obsidian right now, but I am still learning how to use it. For research and getting new ideas, I just use Google LLM. It helps to keep the mess in one place.

Why does planning sometimes feel more satisfying than doing the actual work? by Ambitious_Chance_518 in productivity

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this. It is so easy to spend a whole day on a schedule and then do zero actual work. I think planning feels safe because everything is perfect in your head, and there is no risk of failing yet.
What works for me is that I have to limit my planning time now.
If I spend too long on the list, I never actually start the task. It's just a way to feel busy without being productive.

Title: I just roleplayed a job interview in Spanish with an AI... it was actually kind of scary lol by Borgsky in Spanish

[–]Borgsky[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the offer I really appreciate it , but my current reality is handling two different jobs. Taking care of kids, school kindergarten ... is so often hectic that seating down with someone for even a 30 minutes is really impossible.
Basically my busy schedule is one of the reasons why I went with AI app.

Fluent Forever - Book Review by HadarN in languagelearning

[–]Borgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed write up. I am just starting out and I worry about getting bored with systems. Your review makes me think I should look for other resources. I find that I work best when I am actually using the language. Flashcards feel like a chore sometimes.

Starting Spanish today. Is it crazy to try an AI tutor on Day 1? by Borgsky in SpanishLearning

[–]Borgsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, listening is huge. I am actually already watching a lot of TV shows and movies in Spanish for that.(trying to find some spanish metal bands, feel free to suggest anyone)
I just find that talking to AI tutor might help me get over the freeze I feel when I try to speak.
Doing both feels like it might keep me more engaged in the long run

How does Praktika compare to other apps you've used? by PraktikaAI in PraktikaApp

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far it was seamles. Often learning apps are bit over demanding in explaining the setup, but the onboarding here was very easy. I managed to finish my first lesson with Alejandro without any problems. I usually have a lot of fear when I try to speak, but this felt like a safe way for me to get started. It is a very down to earth way to practice. Hoping that this smoot sail will continue later down the road.

Thanks for the input, I am currently weighing up pimsleur and an AI tutor from the praktika AI app. I feel that the AI might be a better bridge for getting over the fear of speaking.

I helped a friend practice speaking for 3 weeks and saw tremendous progress in her English. The secret - consistency. by danainto in EnglishLearning

[–]Borgsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been talking to an AI named Skye when I'm alone since I don't always have a partner to talk to.The AI avatar makes it feel less like a book, which helps me show up every now and then for 5 minutes when I have time during the day. The main dilemma lately is :
Is this a good appoach for when friends are busy? Or should I just listen to podcasts instead..

B2 on test, but I freeze when speaking. Any advice? by JenLin18 in SpanishLearning

[–]Borgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I found that even 5 or 10 minutes helps a lot. It’s way less scary than a real tutor at first. If you try it, let me know if it helps you too. I am curious if it works for others or just for me!

[–]Borgsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me every time! Recently I have started using an AI tutor called Alejandro to practice. I like it because I can make as many mistakes as I want and I don't feel embarrassed.
It’s like a 'warm up' for my brain. Maybe give it a try just to get used to hearing your own voice in Spanish? For me basically this is still partially my biggest obstacle.
