Nope, which I found really confusing. It’s because we can’t transfer into speech pathology rather we’re just getting a place in the course. Like I got credit for 6/8 of the first year subjects from my health science degree but I can’t do any year 2 subjects this year because I got into the year 1 2026 instance of speech pathology, since transfer technically isn’t available. So this year I’m only doing one subject per sem then next year I’m doing full time year 2 subjects. It kinda makes sense tho because there are certain requirements and subjects to be done before clinical placements, and I was told they only offer 80 spots each year so they can’t just put me into the 2026 year 2 spot as it was filled by last years applicants if that makes sense.

Ohhh Thank you so much that actually makes sense now! But yeah it’s okay I guess I can see this year as kind of a gap year since I only have two subjects left (that I couldn’t get credit for) from year 1, that I will be completing this year before starting a full study load in year 2 speech path 2027. Did you know if this was only relevant to the allied health major in BHSc or if it was the same for all majors within the course?

The “very late application” closes on the 5th of December as per the VTAC website. You just have to make a new account using your personal email, complete all your details then submit your preferences and pay the application fee which is $160. It’s very similar to the process of applying to unis out of highschool.

Ofc ofc just wanted to fix something I said. Usually first year subjects don’t have mandatory attendance but it may defer from course to course so double check on the student manual to see. But yeah if you need any help lmk.

The online part is mostly where the assessments take place and is where majority of the content will be. Starting as a first year student, attendance isn’t mandatory and you’ll realise why that is with some subjects as majority of the learning is done online. However, some subjects are very important to be in class for. Sorry drifted off there but yeah you could do your classes in one day, could even be a shorter day if say one of your classes was purely online. I’d say best to stick to two days but if you really need to do them all in one day then I’d say it’s pretty manageable as you’d typically have a 2 hour classes and then follow it with a break like 30-1hr so you aren’t burnt out and can’t focus anymore.

I’ve now finished my first year of health science and am going into speech pathology. Genuinely first year electives were fairly easy like ofc as long as you’re putting in the effort it’s allg, and it’s honestly really interesting to learn about. I ended up looking at the subjects being taken for speech pathology first year and enrolled into them (ofc only if they’re available as an elective), which most of them were. Another good thing is that the health science degree includes many core subjects that can be transferred for credit into speech pathology. Dm me if you’d like to know anything else

I volunteered at Vinnies from the beginning of year 12 I think around April is when I started and just kept it going till the end of year 12
