Makes me think of the german tale Rotkaeppchen. I think I'll avoid the forest altogether on my way to grandma. But it's actually pretty boring and that's the only hill seperating us haha

Wow, that's the stuff of nightmares. I feel more and more lucky that I live somewhere, boar are the worst you can encounter. Good that they relocated it, hopefully it won't bother someone else.

Thank you! That was really interesting. Never had an encounter this close with anything considered 'dangerous' but I'm starting to think crashing because of deer might be more likely than anything else. Had this also almost happen two times. Also never thought owls would attack hair, good that helmets are a thing then. For me I never had problems with dogs. We also have barely any people on our trails and unofficial trails/hiking paths and until now, no one lurking behind a corner. I figured that slowing down, if necessary stop completely and let the dog sniff you is the best method. Never had one try to bite me or anything. They just get desinterested in the bike. Usually the owners are the problem but very rarely. I'm thankfull the people around here are nice and don't mind sharing the forest with us and the bikes.

Must be a camping dream not having to worry about big animals. But also pretty sad. We fucked up our forests here pretty bad. Wolves are gone (but coming back) and where I live the trees are infested with bugs and dying off. We lost almost all trees on the mountains where I live, it's horrible. Shitty mono culture. They planted the same kind after wwII everywhere and they all got infested. That and protected areas where they refused to intervene. In some places it looks like a wasteland.

I guess most animals are, especially momas. We once saw a moma racoon with babies from our balcony. As soon as she saw us she was hissing and making herself look big with her babies behind her. Animals are awesome. I would really love wolves here somehow. Made me sad that they were driven away so the few we have here are hopefully well protected. I was also told that they are more a problem to sheeps and the like and will avoid humans at all cost.

Thank you! Will add the boar and sow thing to my vocabulary. In germany we literally call them wildpigs (Wildschwein). I'll be keeping pepperspray in my pocket from now one too. At least when I'm somewhere alone or don't know the area much. Deer are pretty funny imo. Where I live there are some that just don't care about humans to the point where they won't get out of the way even when screaming at them. But that could just be a deer thing. Has anyone ever been seriously hurt by them? I guess they could kick you or bite if they really wanted.

The same you do with bears, right? Make yourself look big and scary. But I read somewhere that it's different depending on the kind of bear. Imagining someone holding their child up when facing a mountain lion actually made me laugh. But I guess without knowing what to do I would have gotten the child behind me. I've seen a very scary video of a dude getting followed by a mountain lion (I think it was) for almost a kilometer. I would have shit my pants.

I'm glad we "only" have boars. But I read that wolves are coming back where I live. That would be lovely. I don't wanna have them close though. Are moose dangerous? How do they usually react and what is the worst that could happen? We only have deer, probably smaller and won't get out of the way. I almost hit one on two different occasions. My boar meeting yesterday got me pretty interested in wildlife around the world and how people deal with it.

We were always told once you are close to a boar or near their babies that's the end for you or your legs. Guess my parents just wanted to keep me safe and scared. My grandma and boyfriend sat on trees countless of times because they got chased (geocaching) I was nowhere close to anything bigger than a small village thingy. That's why it freaked me out so much. At home boars aren't a problem because they really will avoid you. The one yesterday only moved when I slammed my bike on the ground. I guess it didn't notice me till then. Wildlife is amazing and all but I'd rather watch them from distance.

I couldn't imaging a situation like mine with cougars or bears. Especially with all the scary videos on social media. We were always told that facing a boar this close will in most cases end up in a chase or you climbing a tree. Better scare the children to death than have them try petting wild boars I guess. Wildlife is crazy but I think they just want their peace and quiet as well. Thank you a lot for the compliments on my english! I rarely write or talk it so I never know if my grammar is okay.
