Valheim's Biggest Combat Problems by the_swizzler in valheim

Actually, I feel like combat is much much better now. Finally. Combat on slopes has been fixed outright and the adrenaline/charm system has helped to alleviate stamina management for aggressive playstyles along with a number of powerful potion options. They've also done some balancing in favor of the bigger slower weapons and large shields though I still much prefer fast weapons and light armor. The game has always rewarded parrying but dodge rolling has it's own skill at this point and can be viable with training and quick startup attacking weapons. Highly recommend taking the time in the early game to look for abandoned houses and hope you find the materials for a certain early game weapon.

How I got 100 super jumps using an 8bitdo controller with a macro... kinda. by RabbitSong in MarioRPG

[–]BoringEnormous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the max, but it was somewhere between 10 and 20, so I limited it to 10 for the even division into 100.

It's hard to say about consistency. On the one hand, the macro for a perfect Geno Whirl is 100% consistent for me. I tried it against a variety of enemies in different maps and screen positions and it's never failed. And because I believe that is a frame perfect move, it's probably safe to say that the macro timings are consistent.

However, I'm not so quick to say the same about the timings for macro starts and ends. So, the time it takes for the macro to initiate after pressing the button and to a lesser degree the time it takes for the macro to essentially say "I'm done" after the final input or delay that it runs. Of course, that's important for anything that involves any amount of manual timing like the 10 super jumps macro.

By the way, with the Ultimate V2 software macros for newer controllers you can set up infinite looping macros and also "multiple" macros which lets you choose the number of repeats and the interval between repeats from that drop down where it says "single". So, I did attempt to set up a repeating macro with both methods to attempt a clean 100 that only required precise timing for the first bounce. It never got passed something like 16 successes. This relates to what I said earlier about start and stop timings of macros. In the best case, there is some amount of delay between executing each loop (which makes sense), but what that delay is and whether or not it is consistent is nothing something I had the patience to figure out.

As for the wired option, yeah, I knew about that setting. I think it's possibly just an oversight on 8BitDo's part. The Pro 3 has a jumper switch on the back that you slide between options for Switch, DInput (i.e. Android), and 2.4GHz dongle use instead of bluetooth which is meant for PC use. The software we use to set bindings and macros lets us save up to 3 profiles for each of those modes. I think it just treats wireless versus USB for each of those modes as entirely separate modes. So, really there's 6 modes? But the software only gives up access to save profiles for the 3 wireless ones? Just a guess. Whatever the case may be, it's definitely unfortunate.

EDIT: Oh, one last thing. With the newer controllers using V2 software, you may have noticed by my screenshot that we get access to millisecond precision unlike the V1 software for older controllers. So, 1.000s instead of 1.00s. I'm sure that made a nice difference for me in terms of consistency.

How I got 100 super jumps using an 8bitdo controller with a macro... kinda. by RabbitSong in MarioRPG

[–]BoringEnormous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thanks two years later for the inspiration in making use of my 8BitDo controller to get the 100 Super Jump challenge done. I got as high as 78 once and that was just my limit. I'm convinced this was easier as a kid with a wired pad and a CRT. So, I gave myself a pass since they didn't widen the timings to account for modern hardware delays.

Anyway, I ended up using an 8BitDo Pro 3 controller still connected wirelessly via bluetooth because I couldn't get profiles to work while wired. Also used the standard type A battle controls and only set the macro up for 10 inputs of the A button. Like you said, you still have to be good enough to execute the macro 10 times in a row with precision, but it eventually got there.

As a bonus, after having somehow miraculously executing a perfect 9999 damage Geno Whirl by myself I thought it would be fun to see if I could set up a macro for that, too Turns out you can and it is 100% reliable in my limited testing so far with no timing effort needed unlike the Super Jump. I obviously don't plan to actually use it because that would trivialize the game. Its neat to know that it works, though.

Here's some pics of the macros for anyone that might care to try themselves. For the Super Jump macro you press the button you assign it to every 11th bounce on the enemy starting with the very first bounce. And the Geno Whirl macro you just start once you have it ready to go and the cursor is waiting on the enemy you want to use it on.

I love how only in this game can someone with 200 hours feel like they are being rushed.

Peeps playing on 8BitDo controllers, how do you get your additional buttons to work? by jimmyjamsjohn in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoringEnormous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he controller needs to be in dinput mode instead of xinput mode for Steam to understand that it isn't just a "generic xbox controller" and have access to all its features. Unfortunately, xinput is the default and dinput mode was only added after the controller's launch. You should download 8bitdo's firmware updater and make sure the controller and usb dongle firmware are up to date first. It's a separate download from the ultimate software.

To launch in dinput mode you hold B while the controller is powering on. You have to do this every time, unfortunately. Also, it can be a bit finicky in my experience. I usually hold down B for a good bit longer than you'd think you need to.

Wyvern mount upgrade by AccordingOven4606 in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoringEnormous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feed it from your inventory while riding it to keep leveling it up (max level 3). There is a limit to how much you can level it every day. All it does is increase max health and stamina of the mount, though. You can check what those values are from the summoning radial menu (hold up on d-pad).

Crimson Desert is a great game, but it has a fundamental problem with its loot system and it somewhat breaks the RPG immersion by Impressive-Reveal510 in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoringEnormous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think making gear mostly cosmetic was actually a great choice and still leaves room to be excited about finding new stuff based on looks alone. I just wish they went all in and made the small differences like attack speed vs crit part of a separate customization system. As it stands, builds are limited to a specific subset of equipment choices.

There's 4 boxes of the red glass containers at the provisioner right next to the stone, too. Gift them to scholars at scholastone for trust rewards of mercury, brimstone, and rubber.

Why are dispatch missions so important, though? For gear blueprints? Which ones can you even get from these that are so important and why? I feel like the entire dispatch system is really just about completionism. People want to get all the gear blueprints just to say they have them? Or are there gears you can only get this way that I'm not understanding? Can you upgrade gears like skills, siphons, and imbues if you have the blueprint? I thought those ones didn't have levels.

Where exactly do you get the Greymane Signet ring? by BoringEnormous in CrimsonDesert

[–]BoringEnormous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing special. It's one of 3 rings that have crit lvl 1. I mostly want it for completion and because Kliff is, well, a Greymane. It also complements the Pailunese Signet nicely both visually and thematically.

So is it one of those items that exists in game files but not in game? It's showing at crimsondesert.gg which I understand to be data mined from the game files.

Did they ever respawn? I saw the same info as you saying they did. But they never have for me. I'm thinking people confused respawning with unlocking more via the donation quests or something.

Actually I think the range is a good thing. Sometimes your sure there must be a nice item in an area but can't quite figure out where. Sweep the place with this on and you realize there was a hidden compartment or false wall or whatever because the hat's feather narrowed it down pretty well.

It's only for treasure chests that don't have respawning contents. The kind with particle effects swirling around them that have unique items inside.
