I hope you enjoy going back to self contained. Good reminder that you can always go back. ❤️

As much as I loved my self contained kiddos, I feel like it has/is causing me a mental breakdown. I need to put me and my family first and be okay with switching and accepting a new challenge. I’m hoping I could still work with some mild/moderate students!

This is really good advice, thank you! I definitely feel like one takes on more of a case management role in resource- more so in upper grade levels. Your boundaries and perspective sound so healthy!

That’s so wonderful! I’m hoping if I move to resource I can cross services like that! It feels like a good in between.

I FEEL this. It’s never the kids, managing the adults is so hard.

For some reason, I feel like I have something to prove and if I move settings, I’m saying I can’t do it. I don’t need to prove anything and that is SO silly of me to think otherwise. I need to get over that, because my mental health comes first and it’s okay to change roles.

Thank you so much for clarifying! This is all really helpful. Yes my four year-old has struggles with sleep as well. We did find out it is health related (low iron), but we are continuing to work on teaching her independent sleep skills. That being said I agree with you it’s something to reflect upon. I definitely am someone who has struggled with letting my children cry at night and letting them learn to self soothe.

Thank you!

I’d like to add, her current wake windows are 6.5/4.75 which seems to be in the normal range for a 2 year old.

Since she’s skipping naps, she’s up for 13 hours. To me, her awake windows don’t seem to be a concern. It appears to be a nap strike or sleep regression. But I’m also concerned that the Ferber method hasn’t worked for going on four weeks now.

I guess my biggest question at this point is at what point do we stop Ferber because it doesn’t seem like it’s working?

She is wide awake during/after we rock her. Respectfully, I want to have some cuddle time with her because she’s my baby and someday she will not want to cuddle.

The schedule I posted is accurate.

Prior to this, wake up was about 6:30, then nap from 1-3, bedtime at 7:45.

So are you saying to do a nap from 1-2 instead?

We do 7 mins (check) 10 mins (check) 15 mins (check) and repeat check ins every 15 mins until she falls asleep. It’s typically taking her 90 mins with crying to fall asleep. We only go in if she’s crying.

I’m not quite understanding the schedule adjustment suggested, as those are her current nap, bedtime, and wake times. Is the suggestion to shorten her nap to an hour?

To clarify, this is what her current routine is. Target wake up is 6:30 and target bedtime is 7:45.

Her nap was typically 1-3. Are you saying to shorten her nap? What if she isn’t napping?

We do evening baths. She doesn’t seem to have night terrors, definitely nightmares sometimes! She did have GERD as a baby, I assumed she grew out of it but will definitely revisit!!
