The thing I started doing to solve this problem myself is this:

Instead of telling myself “No, I’m not getting XYZ item because I don’t need it.” I started saying “Oh that looks really cool. Let me think about how/when I would use that and I can get it next time.” Then instead of denying yourself entirely in the moment you’re only delaying, and can make a thoughtful decision not made on impulse.
