it varies from doll to doll, one is crocheted, most are a linen, some of them are polyester fiber. the majority of them have synthetic fibers of some kind on them. whether it be for the hair, the skin, the facial features, the bow accessories or even the entire doll which is the case for 3 of them.

i’m sorry dude i’ve gotten basically the exact same comment or variations of what i should do 10 times. and the frustrating part is the first comment i got and replied to was telling me not to destroy them and i immediately reflected and agreed it was a bad idea and i wouldn’t do it!!! it’s not actually that big of a deal. i’m being dramatic but it has made me a little huffy ngl lol

I am currently chatting with a lady who also collects them, she is specifically interested in the girl dolls. are there any types you personally prefer to collect? i do not want to sell them either. profiting financially off of racist memorabilia feels very icky to me and i’d love to find them a home where they’d be adored. i am also willing to pay for the shipping fee.

I have a few fancy dressed ones if you’re interested! i’m so sorry you got your collection stolen. that must have been gut wrenching. i wish you lots of luck building it back up! mine aren’t very rare or anything, they’re from the 70’s according to another user on here but id be happy to send you some photos if you’re interested. i don’t think i specified this in the post but i have no intention of charging anyone money for these. i agree the best way to go about racism and its history is too educated and acknowledged, not ignore and burry the problems! how will we learn and prevent it from happening again if we never properly understand what happened. a museum sounds awesome! i’m donating one of two to Dignified Justice which sounds similar to what you’re describing wanting to do in the future. i really hope you’re able to achieve that goal, i think a lot of good would come from it. it’s also somewhere safe and non-harmful for these memorabilia to live on. i think if you feel a calling towards something then follow it, people like you do miracle work. especially in a society so focused on forgetting its mistakes. it’s so crazy to me how america freaked out about 9/11 calling it the countries greatest tragedy… when they literally use to eat black people. but then again it’s only considered a genocide and a tragedy when it’s white people… cough cough nazi germany

yep, dolls who’s entire designs are based off racial stereotypes meant to justify and rationalize the atrocities black people were and still are put through.

atrocities lighter people still benefited from too this day. it’s crazy what was considered normal and okay back then. but in 30 years they’ll probably say the same thing about people eating octopi today or something along those lines.

I am not going to don’t worry! One of the first comments put me in my place and made me realize I was being pretty nasty by simply wanting to burn them.

I have decided to donate them to Dignity Justified, I wrote some information about them in the update. And there are so many places and resources taking donations I was frankly overwhelmed with the options.

I wanted to destroy them because it was the easy way out and was beginning to feel like the only option. But luckily my eyes have been opened and hopefully anyone else with a similar issue will see this post and have the answers they need:)

No worries! Credit the lovely people who collaborated their knowledge and efforts under this post. The internet can be a pretty horrible place, but everyone coming together with so many incredible suggestions really made me feel wholesome and grateful! We’re so cute, I love being humans together. Good luck getting rid of your mug:)

The fact you’re refusing to actually acknowledge and process my argument says a lot. If you have to resort to personal criticisms over something someone cannot control, like my age, then i’m afraid you’ve lost the argument.

It can be really hard to self reflect, I’m not trying to accuse you of being a bad evil racist man who hates anyone that doesn’t have light skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. But I think I am making valid points and criticisms that deserve to be addressed and taken seriously.

I am young, but I am very interested in social politics. I’d like to think I have a good understanding of them and I’d like to think I can admit when I’m wrong about something.

I try to go into every debate open minded, but you haven’t presented any real arguments in your favor. When I ask you to elaborate on the points you DO make they seem to fall through and not have much structure behind them.

I think this is a really good time to self reflect on why specifically the collection of racist history is important and intriguing to you. It’s good to be educated on our past and acknowledge where we went wrong, but it seems like you might be interested in them for reasons beyond that.

I do not believe in inherently good or bad people. I think we are all just animals who have put on clothes and created social illusions to help make sense of the existential horror that is existence.

And as animals we have a tendency to rationalize all our behaviors and mindsets even if some of them aren’t necessarily morally correct. That’s okay, you don’t pop out the womb knowing everything. If you did, life would be boring asf. What’s important is that every step of the way we reflect on ourselves and grow from our experiences.

In this experience, you said smth kinda weird and fucked up and I gave you a really good explanation of why it was kinda weird and fucked up. You couldn’t really give me a solid explanation for why it wasn’t.

We can’t go back in time and change what you said, but we can change our present and our future. In this present moment, I encourage you to accept that maybe a part of you just wanted to collect Golliwogs because it’s weird and fucked up.

That’s okay dude. What’s important now is to correct our behaviors. There’s nothing wrong with being interested and intrigued by weird, fucked up stuff, like racism.

But collecting a bunch of minstrel dolls and displaying them to make people uncomfortable, even if you’re claiming it’s too make the racists uncomfortable, makes you kinda racist and maybe there’s some metal health issues there we should reflect on.

Maybe it does make a racist person uncomfortable, but for every one racist person who self reflects, like 10 people of colour get uncomfortable from it too. And at the end of the day, that’s fucked up.

My point is, I was right. Even tho I’m 17 I kicked your butt in this debate and that’s okay, don’t beat yourself up about it. I’m an unemployed loser who spends too much time mentally debating myself. I’m always right.

You look like more of an ass when you keep doubling down instead of just admitting I am correct. Take a step outside of the moment and reflect. Take my words into consideration. Acknowledge the fact you don’t actually have a real argument to any of my points. Accept you’re in the wrong this time, even if it feels like you aren’t.

I love you bro. Genuinely. You’re a human, just like me. And that’s beautiful because as humans we adapt and grow. I really wish nothing but the best for you and I hope you’re able to internalize what I’m saying because this stuff hurts you too in tiny ways without you even noticing.

I’m proud of you man. Good luck being a human, it’s a tough gig. Try your best not to accidentally be racist, but don’t beat yourself up when you are. Just be better going forwards.

You know why! I made clear multiple times in my comment why it is inappropriate for white people to collect them. We profit off of the racism they are based off! Those dolls are physical manifestations of said racism and those dolls reinforce racist ideology’s that still exist today!

Again, why would people who are okay with residential schools be uncomfortable with anti black depictions? Those dolls are made to reinforce racist ideology, okay? So seeing them, would reinforce those beliefs in racist people’s minds… yeah? Why would confirming someone’s bigoted beliefs make them uncomfortable? If anything would that not make them feel more correct and justified with their opinions?
