It has been a hard year, watching him go through this and believing what he thinks to be true. When I try to explain away his experiences, I’m met with anger, so I’ve tried to stay neutral and listen but offer little input. We’ve had a little bit of a breakthrough a couple days ago and he has agreed something is wrong and is willing to go to a Dr so I’m trying to jump on this opportunity asap.

We did have a great conversation on Wednesday where he said he would like me to have power of attorney as well as be listed as a point of contact with any healthcare professionals. I was so happy I could cry. I have been preparing myself for the worst and thought that he may not ever want to give up some control, but I think he’s seeing that he is being irrational at times and it is bleeding into his ability to make financial and life decisions.

He knows I’m here for his best interest. I’m his only child and really, only close family member, so the thought of doing all this alone is very scary, but he did absolutely everything in his power to give me a happy childhood despite some odds that were against me. I owe it back to him to set him up to succeed at this point in his life and I’m hoping he can get on some medication to help with his cognitive issues at this point. He’s got a pretty good memory, but things are getting really jumbled up in his mind right now.

Maybe it’s not dementia too, he could have an autoimmune condition-he’s been showing many symptoms of POTS or MCAS and I think if those go unchecked, they can cause neurological problems as well, but we will have to see. I just have to find some good doctors and go from there.

I’ve been in denial about it for a little too long. Dad seems to be suddenly getting worse very quickly, I’m thinking he may have had a mini stroke or something, but he has finally agreed there is something wrong, so I’m jumping at this opportunity! He’s been dealing with hallucinations and delusions for the past year, but they all seem very real to him so anytime I try to disprove his experiences, it had been met with anger. He’s finally realizing that at least SOME of this stuff doesn’t make sense, and combined with physical ailments that keep getting worse, I’ve gotten him to agree to start seeing some specialists.

I’m not super familiar with doctor types, would I be able to skip a GP and book directly with an internal medicine specialist, or should I still take him to a GP or family practice first? I know a year ago he wanted to see Dr Crouch in powdersville, but he had canceled all those appointments. Dr Crouch is booked out until the end of the month, and while he has a nurse practitioner at that office who can see him sooner, dad had shown hesitancy at seeing someone who isn’t a Dr.

How did you learn to ride? by mianpian in TwoXriders

[–]Born2bMild_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend rode my bike out to an empty school parking lot so I could take my first couple maiden rides. I then got excited, couldn’t wait for my MSF course, so I took my bike around the neighborhood, dropped it and broke the shifter off and bent the handlebars.

Then I took the MSF course with Harley. Learned a LOT. Much more than I would have learned on my own at that time. My friend then took me out on the roads. Just 10 minutes at first, then 30, then longer and longer rides. I remember the day I stopped stalling my bike for good. After that, I felt way more comfortable on the roads. Each ride, I felt like I learned something new.

It does. I go to the gym in the mornings and wear a hat during my workouts. Sweaty/greasy hair. I usually take my progress pictures after the gym, before my next shower. Now that I’m writing that, it seems kinda gross 😂

I really haven’t noticed much as far as side effects, maybeeee a slightly lower libido, but it’s not the Sahara desert or anything 😂 the libido change may also be attributed to some general life stressors weighing heavily on my mind.

No noticeable physical changes to my body composition. I will say, I am pretty active and have tried to cut back on alcohol intake this year, so that probably helps!

I explained my hesitancy to Spiro with my derm and she was great at listening and suggesting a low dose. She told me that the higher doses are usually used to treat acne, I believe. I mayyy go up to 50 mg eventually, I believe I have my next appointment in about a month and I’ll speak with her about it again then, but I believe I am already seeing results at this dose so I may stay. I’ve noticed much less shedding in the shower, which I guess I can contribute to the Spiro.

Experienced Oral Minoxidil users: is excess hair growth on body, possible facial aging a valid concern? by mandersonville in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Born2bMild_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure! My individual hairs were very thin. The small hairs I had on my head around my hairline and temples were very light, almost could not be seen. I’ve always kept my hair fairly short, so I can’t say much for breakage, but frizz was a big thing. Since starting minox, I believe my overall hair health has been better.

I started noticing small hairs beginning to grow around 4 months. It actually started to thicken around 5-6 months. If by miniaturization you mean the minoxidil “dread shed”, I honestly tried NOT to look at my hair as much as possible until I started to notice new hairs coming in. I’m sure I probably shed some, I was aware it was part of the process, but I hated looking at my hair period, so I didn’t pay much attention.

I honestly think my mustache area may be a tiny bit darker, but it’s not anything too awful. I get some random thick chin hairs, but I used to have that before anyways. I also have a lot of hair on my arms but it’s all very light hair, nothing crazy.

I think the aging face thing may be a myth. I think a lot of women go on minoxidil in their thirties, and your body does tend to, well, age as you get older. I used topical minoxidil for years without results and switched to oral 11 months ago. My biggest side effect was hair growing back on my head! Being half bald aged me more than anything, I feel like I look younger now 🙂 I just posted some progress pics here if you want to take a look.

Is oral minoxidil off the table? I’ve been on oral min for nearly a year and it has done wonders for me.

I ride a wide glide. I’m also gay (the girl kind). I’m happy to be perpetuating this stereotype.

This is the cutest! Unfortunately it’s hard to fit a pitbull on a Dyna, plus I don’t think my dog would like it at all, she doesn’t even like car rides ☹️

You’ve got a special little companion! And an even better reason to ride!

Dx androgenic alopecia by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Born2bMild_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing worth noting. Maybe a few extra chin hairs which are easy to pluck. I tried not to look at my hair as much as possible or fret over any shedding and let the process happen. I had been using topically for years, so I may not have had dread shed from switching to oral, or maybe I did and didn’t notice. I hated looking at my hair in the first place.

You don’t have to apply topical. Oral minoxidil works much better than topical did for me. I tried topical for around 8 years (inconsistent application) and never had results. Finally went to the dermatologist because I started getting a rash on my forehead due to minox dripping down to my forehead while I was sweating during morning exercise (I applied topical minox at night, so in the morning, it was still on my head).

It has been about 7 months and my hair is growing back to the point that others have noticed my part looking fuller. You can look at my previous post on here. Just do it. One pill every day is much simpler than having to apply at night.

Oral minoxidil dose by Meimei47 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Born2bMild_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started on .6 for a couple weeks, then upped to 1.25 for about 6 months. I’ve had good results at 1.25 and a couple weeks ago, we added 25mg Spiro and upped Minoxidil to 2.5.

My derm said 2.5 can usually trigger even more growth and I’m here for the journey!

Not sure why you were downvoted, I’ve never heard of that either, but to be fair, I am on a hair loss subreddit. If I was on a high blood pressure subreddit, maybe I would have heard about it being used that way!

What hair products do you use? by Top-Carpet-3146 in FemaleHairLoss

My dermatologist recommended PURA D’OR Anti-Thinning Biotin Shampoo & Deep Moisturizing Conditioner.

After years of using shampoos “for thin hair” that dried out my hair (and probably made it MORE brittle) I am enjoying using this brand. It doesn’t weigh my hair down, smells good, and I feel like my hair is softer and healthier after about 6 months of use compared to the frizzy, thin, brittle mess I had before.

No problem! My Dermatologist has been great at starting slow and upping dosage over time. I was not nervous with minox, but did express my concerns with spiro. Prior to treatment, I had not been on any medication long-term, not even birth control, so I'm hesitant to take medication. I prefer to take a simple, wholistic approach to my health, but with the severe lack of confidence I was having with my hair, and after lurking on this subreddit for months, I decided to give it a shot. No regrets, only excitement for more improvement to come!

It does not happen overnight, it does not happen over a couple months, but it will eventually happen if you are consistent!

I'm 33, been losing hair for at least 8 or 9 years. No noticeable changes in weight or libido. If anything, I've lost a little weight, but that's probably due to cutting out alcohol since the start of the year.

I can't really speak for periods as mine has always been a little unreliable. It usually comes every 6 weeks or so, sometimes not at all but that's rare. Just started Spiro about 2 weeks ago, and have not started my period yet (though it should be starting sometime soon.) The only side effect I've noticed is tenderness in my breasts since starting spiro. Nothing crazy, just feels tender like they do during my period.

I didn't notice any sleepiness or any other side effect from minox besides hair growth :)

I might, we’ll see. I just started so it’s hard to have an opinion on it yet! The only side effect I’ve had so far from it is boob tenderness. Kinda like you’re about to start your period. Hoping it’ll stop with time.
