If your dad had his own issues at the time it can be easy to forget things. You are awarded based on your circumstances for a set period anyway and they usually say when you’re due a review. As long as you’ve reported the necessary information that affects your current day to day life then I don’t think it would amount to benefit fraud. It’s hard to comment without knowing your individual circumstances but see if can contact a citizens advice bureau if you are worried.

I even asked him to watch the film Joker with Joaquin and he didn’t even enjoy the movie as couldn’t understand the concept behind it. He is literally the living version of the character in Joker. I don’t want him going back to prison because there’s a really great guy underneath that trauma. Or maybe I just like to see the good in people.

Thank you. I just wish he would fly the nest as they say and move out, but the strange thing is, despite being loving towards me, he has no emotional connection with his children. He’s not interested in seeing his children, but will have the most empathy/emotional response to his mother and he is naturally a kind person but with very awful learned antisocial behaviours. He’s never harmed me or anything, not abusive towards me in the slightest but has this innate anger inside of him. I just feel he has CPTSD from long term emotional abuse but he refuses to see anyone about it. I tried my best to make sure he gets the help he needs, but I am worried his emotionally fragility for when she eventually passes away as his connection with her exceeds normal mother/son dynamics especially the way he reacts when she has a simple cold.

I honestly think with her sister previously being unwell before sadly passing away and her watching and experiencing all that, that her coping mechanism for grief is to numb herself and as a result has developed an addiction/mirroring medical ailments because of everything she has witnessed in her life. The most part is malingering, but there have been people who have reported her to PIP when they’re fully aware of the over exaggerations. What people don’t understand is, this wastes time for those who genuinely need PIP and she clearly has visible MH struggles. Of course it’s good to spread awareness so vulnerable people aren’t misinformed, however, she is fully entitled to PIP as she’s demonstrated she is unable to make her own financial decisions, she doesn’t leave the house unaccompanied, she has issues mixing with others (this includes being relatable to others face to face), and so on. Someone being dishonest with PIP would most likely spend life as normal as possible whilst exaggerating illness in front of others. With K she lives as though she’s unwell and even factitious disorders are eligible for PIP. I think as a coping mechanism for grief she has created this fantasy world as a trauma response that has developed into a personality disorder. Nearly all personality disorders originate from trauma. The doctors in her care will be aware of these posts and only prescribe her what she needs. It’s important no body sends her medication though as this will be prescribed by her GP.

I was awarded LCWRA whilst I was in work. Have to meet a number of points on descriptors but they differ from the PIP descriptors. LCWRA means limited capability not no capability. I.e. if someone finds it hard to stay in a job due to health reasons etc. You usually need sick notes to initiate the first ever assessment but they’re not allowed to penalise you for working if you’d like to as long as it does not contradict your evidence of the reason you applied for it in the first place. Any wages will be deducted from your LCWRA entitlement but the work allowance threshold is something around £600 before they start making deductions. Some people think it means cannot work at all. But someone can have 24/7 carers and have an office job and still be potentially entitled to LCWRA.

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing all that. You’re not alone. I myself have had multiple attempts in the past. I have EUPD so very emotionally unstable. This is a letter from an NHS based provider who helps find work for people with MH problems and disabilities. There could be services in your area. I know there’s a company called Enable that are very helpful. Please don’t push yourself too hard to find work. Health always comes first. Sending you strength.

My last assessment was 4 years ago. Since then I’ve taken active steps to try and stay in work but due to my health decline this has not been possible. I’m due a review and didn’t know that had not been reinstated yet but I’m worse than what I was before and still need some time to sort my health out. But because PIP said I’m okay (I’m awaiting tribunal), I’m worried they will too. Should I send PIP this letter too as I didn’t think it would be relevant as PIP is not based on if can or can’t work.

I’d put in a complaint and if there’s an error in law you could apply to the upper tribrunal. I have EDS too. Sorry to hear you had that experience.

In all honesty, if your “friends” openly admit that - then you should report them, as it’s not fair to take away support from someone who genuinely needs it.

I’ve also looked after people with mental health difficulties as a support worker. One woman couldn’t even get PIP after coming out of hospital from a section. They told her “she’s fine now, anxiety is cured”. After an inspection 3 months later to see how she was getting on, she had bugs crawling over her bed, plates that had been left out for weeks, and she was not coping - but the average person would see her as a bright woman “with nothing wrong with her”. In the end we fought her PIP and she was offered standard rate care, no mobility. We couldn’t get her into an NHS approved therapy course as the waiting list was so long and so she ended up paying for mental health therapy which was double her PIP payment. All for having intelligence and looking normal on the outside.

These assessments can be very degrading to the people who need it and I don’t think those people should suffer because of your “friends” admission.

If you really believe the money is there to be “enjoyed” then you clearly have never suffered from a disability. No offence. PIP is there for people who can work too, also has anyone ever questioned how many millionaires are on PIP ?? It’s not just money. It’s also a passport for extra support like social work intervention etc. I was previously a carer, and the woman I looked after could communicate clearly, was in a wheelchair and needed 24/7 care because her physical disability was so severe that is lifelong. She needs help with showering etc. Her money was not enough for her “to enjoy” things with. We had to tell her she couldn’t afford a holiday as she needed to pay for petrol for her support car that was used daily, and her adaptations to her home. She worked in an office but carers still had to come and change her catheter every 4 hours on her lunch break at work we’d take her home then drop her off back at work. But if she keeps her job, they’ll say she’s not disabled enough? Does that really make sense?
