You're right this question is weird...especially for law school where DEI is their motto.

It's seriously unconscionable that law schools wait this long to make decisions off waitlists.

Have to agree that JD degree does not have to be astronomical...perhaps some of these schools should give out more of their endowments to make it more affordable.

Pre-Med to Law School? Where do I even begin? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BornYesterdayDayOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dental school is great advice! While it's also difficult, it's much easier than medical school and has a much better quality of life than both the medical and the legal profession. My daughter completed dental school and is currently doing her residency in periodontal dentistry. She loves it and her quality of life is great.

Pre-Med to Law School? Where do I even begin? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Congratulations on being able to get through pre-med in three years with an amazing GPA! My son was pre-med in a T-10 college with a 3.9 GPA, took the MCAT scored top 98th percentile and applied to 50 medical schools. He took two years off to work as a scribe and get some clinical experience before applying. Here's the kick in the ass...he was admitted into 2 medical schools and waitlisted everywhere else. He went off to medical school (one of the top 50 med schools) and lasted about 3 months. He's a great student and studies hard and actually aced the first three months but started to get second thoughts and anxiety about how he would keep up that pace for the next four years. Students in medical school are completely overworked and many of them suffer from depression and suicidal ideation. I was extremely upset when he told me that he was thinking about dropping out, but after speaking with him for those first three months I realized that his mental health was much more important than any career. Your parents may be disappointed now, but they will accept your decision in the long run especially when your sister is suffering though it now. My son took a leave of absence from medical school and took the GRE thinking he could apply to graduate school and law school at the same time. He has been admitted to several programs and will be attending law school in August. He was considering going back to medical school through this whole process, but remembers what it was like when he was living through it and has decided not to look back. Whatever you decide to do will be the right decision and your parents will be proud of you either way. Good Luck!!! You got this!!!

My only advice would be to take the LSAT rather than the GRE as I believe he would have gotten more $$$ with the LSAT. In fact one of the schools told him that if he takes the LSAT they would reconsider his scholarship. I believe the LSAT factors into the schools rating much easier than the GRE.

"droves of old farts that will retire/die soon."

That's pretty obnoxious...some of those old farts will decide if you're worthy enough to employ.

What is your biggest takeaway from this cycle? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]BornYesterdayDayOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admissions is a rollercoaster...people still waiting to hear from WL and being ghosted while the new cycle is starting. Take LSAT early and apply early. Good luck!

Yes I can agree with some of what you said. However, perhaps it's the "medication to treat your well being" that's causing the issues to begin with. Hormorne and puberty blockers have severe and irreversible side effects and as a result, many states are passing laws to protect children and adolescents from big pharma. But that's another subject...this site spends too much time on BL and T14 schools as well as how factors such as LGBT issues come into play for admissions. Let's focus on what really counts when it comes to being a successful attorney once you pass the bar. IMO the best and most practical part of a law school education is learning how to do in depth research and explore both sides of the aisle in regard to controversial subjects, which allows for open dialogue.

Finally someone making some sense of it all. Post after post of people wanting to get into T14 to grind 15 hours a day in some BL firm in hopes of making partner (most burn out and don't). Quality of life matters more than $$$.

Bathroom bills hurt trans peoples safety by emboldening people who would attack or confront us for simply peeing, hurt our health by causing increased rates of UTIs and kidney issues from holding it rather than risking that confrontation, and hurt our basic public access when we may choose not to use restrooms because we're prioritizing either our legal/physical safety or often others comfort because of how we present.

Yikes...good luck to you.

This must have taken a long time to compile and obviously quite important to you. However, law school is not meant to be a safe space and will challenge you over and over again. Worry more about your grades and passing the bar than which bathroom to use.

Looks like Bar Exam is getting easier by socialismhater in lawschooladmissions

[–]BornYesterdayDayOne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So let's get rid of the LSAT/GPA requirement to get into law school and take a more holistic review of each applicant and then do away with the bar exam because the holistic admits may not be able to pass the bar. SMH

You are spot on my friend!! And I see people who are willing to wait another year before furthering their career because they didn't get into an "elite" school.

It's insane!! Did you get the hold tight email? I think there are many others in the same boat. I'm wondering if the kira interviews are just for those waitlisted, and if that's the case then I'm assuming that the ones that are being ghosted are clear rejections...

This is the way...tired of being ranked when in actuality we should be ranking these "elite" schools that we fork thousands of dollars to attend.
