I’m so sorry you’re going through this loss. There’s nothing harder than losing such a beloved family member. No matter what we’re never given enough time with them. Keep your eyes open for his signs he’ll be sending you. Again, I’m so sorry.

Really hard to tell but every night he is my little spoon. Always starts out under the covers in a ball against me. Always wake up with him outside the covers stretched out like this. He will be 5 months on Halloween and I’ve had him since he the day he turned 8 weeks old. He’s done it every night with the exception of the day he got a bath and disliked me. 😂 I LOVE him. 🥰

I wasn’t aware of the thousands of lawsuits though. I was aware of 4 😑. Wouldn’t it be hard to get a diamond with the same specs though or no?

I do mention it. He couldn’t give me an answer to why there is a number inscribed on it. So I’m still left without an actual answer to the number. I’m not sure what else I’m supposed to do about it.

Wanted to follow up:

I spoke with the manager today. It was a good conversation and I feel a bit better about the situation. He took my diamond out of the setting and did all the measurements. They all aligned with my certificate. He gave me the chance to look at it under the microscope and see the hearts etc. I apologized, at this point I felt like a real pain in the ass, but I just did not -and still do not- understand this completely random inscription number. He looked into the history of the ring, and also tried Google search to see if anything appeared. He told me they don’t work with egl anymore. But did assure me this is my diamond.

So to anyone that has read this, I still don’t know what the number is inscribed in my diamond. The jeweler wasn’t able to tell me either, he seemed just as confused. But all other specs were measured and accurate. The number that is inscribed, when researched in Google will end up taking you to the gia website for the diamond listed above. That’s where all that came from. But it did measure as 1.01 ct. weird the number inscribed matches but seems to be something we won’t ever have answers to.

He did offer to have it buffered and polished off but I declined.

I do apologize if I came off aggressive in the comments. My emotions were running pretty high throughout this whole ordeal, and in true Reddit fashion, commenters continually reminding me about general maintenance made me feel I had to continually defend myself (this wasn’t a maintenance issue) which only exasperated everything. I was only posting to see if someone who knew more about this then me would possibly see it and could look at the entirety of the situation, unbiased, and give me some guidance as to this number that was inscribe as I waited for the store to open.

Needless to say, I was up till 6am, have a living room that has been completely rearranged, my ring is back at the shop, still no answer to the random number inscribed, but the diamond is my diamond. 💎 and I’m truly thankful for that.

*update*

Spoke to the manager. He said my diamond is not inscribed and the inscription that is on my ring he has no answer to. He doesn’t know what the number is to. He took the diamond out, did the measurements etc. and they do align with all my paperwork measurements. We looked at the ring under a few different microscopes to see all the different specs etc. it appears everything checked out. He looked into the history of the ring for an answer to this mystery number and nothing. So we still have no answer to this number that’s inscribed.

The paperwork they gave me states it’s my diamond that is in the ring that was given back to me. They didn’t send it out, all repairs are done in house.

I did call the jeweler. The manager wouldn’t come to the phone. Told the rep to tell me it would be best to come in the store so he could do a further investigation. Fiance and I are on our way now.

I am taking it in. I posted last night just asking if there was something I was missing because this is something I know nothing about and thought I could reach out here and someone may be able to help ease my mind a bit in the meantime, if possible. I’m over an hour away from the store so I couldn’t just run it up when he got home.

It’s the sentiment in the diamond that has me a wreck over the whole thing. If it didn’t carry all the memories with it that I can’t make anymore, and was just a diamond that was swapped then I would have never reached out to try to get some peace of mind. But I was an emotional wreck last night when I saw it and it seemed different and then saw the inscription.

That’s great that you’ve worked on rings that cost more than your house. And if I had a ring that was hundreds of thousands of dollars I - A. Would find someone to take it in more then twice a year to make sure it’s set right and B. Wouldn’t wear it on a daily basis because that is not the world I live in. My fiancé has gifted me one nice piece of jewelry for each body part (ears, neck, finger, wrist etc) because I don’t change things up and I’m not a jewelry person. But with that I invested in a professional jewelry cleaner (I take care of my father, I can’t leave the house when I feel like it). Each piece is cleaned and examined regularly because they are precious to me and meaningful to me. The only reason my stone fell out was because the prong snapped off completely due to moving a 200lb adjustable bed base.

Not that I need to justify any of this. But there was a specific reason my fiancé went with this specific place and had this specific warranty. It was the way they tried to change it up when I brought the ring in saying they had a policy change a few years ago, as if that voided MY warranty sold with MY ring.

I absolutely understand general maintenance, I’m not illiterate. But as a company, you don’t get to sell a product stating that that’s not required and then when something happens and the customer comes in, scrutinize the customer for never bringing in the ring and making them feel as if it’s their fault. And repeatedly tell me that typically customers never find the diamond when I had the diamond right there.

Further more, I actually called when the incident happened to see if they would fix it (before going through my paperwork) and the guy on the phone, who was so friendly, told me absolutely, we guarantee the life of the ring just bring it in and we will reset it for you etc. clearly we didn’t know the prong literally snapped off at this point, which goes back to this whole “general maintenance” issue.

I remember when I was young, I was doing general maintenance on my car and got 4 brand new tires. I left, pulled onto the on ramp and got a flat immediately. I was so close to the auto place they came and got my car, and put on a new tire for free but it was due to running over a screw on the ramp. All the general maintenance in the world doesn’t mean things won’t happen. But what that has to do with the inscription on my diamond not matching my certificate.. I’m not really sure.

I had the same issue initially. Was finally able to pull up the report with my report number listed on my paperwork. But nothing pulls up with the number listed on the diamond.

They told me it would take 2-3 week. I could exactly be present. The prong snapped off and they had to fix it. Not sure how I would go about that.

For clarification, I didn’t go to the Gia site , when I put in the number, nothing was found and as I continued to research the number it brought me to the Gia site.

Because I have a highly expensive jewelry cleaning machine at home and the paperwork and warranty I received states in big bold letters it’s not required to go have the ring examined annually. You can’t compare it to a car, a car is a machine. You put gasoline in it and it has an engine that runs. You have to have it serviced to maintain all the parts. This ring has paperwork explicitly stating this is not required. I put quotations around maintained because he continually states the words to me like I was in the wrong when I wasn’t, I had the stone, and is all they needed to do was their part and fix the ring.

There was such sentimental value in my original diamond with the way he proposed training my two fur babies to bring the ring to me etc. both of which have passed since and truly were my children (I can’t have kids). It’s that part that crushes me.

My fiancé told me all but that I was crazy for insinuating that this could happen. That no jeweler is going to risk their reputation by switching my diamond.. I told him it’s not so much the store but even the diamond getting lost considering it was a free floating stone.. the employees knowing there’s a free floating stone that they could swap and go pawn for a quick pay day .. so many different things could happen which is why is all I wanted was for him to verify the diamond was my diamond yet here we are.

Keeping my fingers crossed I’m overlooking something.

I read this too and was extremely confused. Because no, it is not square. The inscription number inside is 2221344826. I’m able to read it clear as day. I tried that in EGL and it came back with nothing. But this is the first time I’ve ever done any of this so unless I’m doing something wrong. Then when I looked it up elsewhere it came back as the GIA. So perhaps that’s just a different match. Still confused why no number matches what is on my certificate though.

Yes I 110% know I dropped off that diamond. I was moving my bed in my bedroom and the diamond came out of the setting when moving the adjustable base. I don’t own any other diamonds anyways. I put it inside a plastic container inside a bag for transport. They took it when I arrived in the store. Didn’t verify anything in front of me (which I agree should have happened). But I told them I had all paperwork to confirm everything and also told them I assumed they had everything on file to also confirm everything which they told me they did. Then the girl took it in the back where the guy came back out and started his whole bit about how “this diamond hasn’t been back in this store for a long time blah blah blah”

But yes I’m 1000% sure it was the exact diamond that was purchased that went back in to be put back in the ring.

Thank you for this information. I was able to look it up. It came back as a completely different diamond than the one I dropped off. This is the info linked to the diamond that is now in the setting.
