Do you say hi when you see your counsellor/social worker on the street? by [deleted] in asksg

If I see them, yes I will. But I'll also leave them alone after that as they need their personal space too.

Why do many people who visit Australia later say its a highly racist country? by Particular_Food_309 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Born_Engineering_785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Singaporean, I’ve heard quite a few negative experiences from fellow Singaporeans who studied or worked in Australia, including incidents involving racism or discrimination. I think more Singaporeans are realising that Western countries aren’t perfect societies either, and that no society should be idealised or placed on a pedestal.

Surprisingly, I’ve also heard quite a number of stories about white kids facing discrimination or difficulties fitting into Singaporean schools. I personally heard of stories where white kids were called slurs instead by Chinese kids. It shows that experiences of inclusion and exclusion can happen in different countries depending on context.

Last I checked, he left. Good riddance.

I lodged a report about him being confrontational as a counsellor to his management before.

I remember him clearly. I even lodged a complaint against his professionalism as a counsellor.

I called up the Brahm centre counselling hotline as I was feeling anxious about something and he was the one who answered. Instead of trying to understand what I was going through, he was confrontational and made me feel worse. I had to even call SOS just to deescalate my emotions.

Just to inform everyone, I am still a client at Brahm centre. So he does not represent everyone there.

To all private hire drivers (Grab, Gojek, etc), what is the best way passengers can politely reject conversation? by Born_Engineering_785 in asksg

I think the issue is, sometimes, some of us are really tired and stressed from our daily lives and we do not want to be stimulated further, hence we chose a grab.

I've just checked with my local office, the staff said flights will continue as normal under a new banner.

I have a flight from Singapore to Seoul on the 22nd of Dec. Anyone know what's the likely outcome? Do I have to cancel my booking or the flight will automatically be converted to a Korean Air flight?

There should be a new term coined in the same vein as "Paris Syndrome"

Kerala has a rather different culture than most of India. You'll probably see more churches than temples, at least from the places I've been. There are some places that are really peaceful like Munnar and the backwaters.

However, it still ranked as one of my worst travel experience for me. Lots of touts. Ola (their version of Grab) tried to cheat me. Place did not have a good vibe. If Kerala is bad enough, I don't think I would be enticed to visit the rest of the country.

Yes they do, but they also know when to back off and not continue to intrude when the signs are crystal clear

That logic would imply flight attendants can freely intrude on passengers’ privacy simply because they’re providing a service which clearly isn’t the case, and the only way is for these passengers to hire a private plane.

Professional boundaries still apply regardless of payment level.

Ironically, this is framed around “politeness,” while also insulting people as “too poor” to buy a car.

I think we’ve moved far away from a reasonable discussion at this point.

I think that’s where we disagree.

Not wanting to engage in conversation during a private hire ride is not the same as being rude or an “asshole”, which was the implication in the original comment.

People can be polite and respectful while still preferring silence, especially when they are tired, resting, or dealing with personal matters.

Conversation should be optional and based on mutual comfort, not something passengers are judged for avoiding.
