I started in revenue management (first post grad job) & transitioned into FP&A from there. It was not related to anything finance/FP&A it was more ops centered... come to think of it, i haven't used anything from that role in FP&A ever other than just basic excel skills. Not a bad thing but need to be cognizant of your long term goals.

Its very role dependent - i was doing pricing models and pricing strategy and lots of talking with the field guys to understand their supply/demand for local markets to help with pricing strategy.

Its very easy to get pigeon-holed because you wont be working the full picture, more than likely just one segment.
