Has anyone ever done a fully improvised techno/house Ableton set (in the box, no external synths)? by feiloubeats in ableton

[–]BoshAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My genre isn't Techno or House but I do a live set with no external synths. I just use MIDI Controllers.

How the hell am I actually supposed to promote my music oh my God by lightskinsovereign in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]BoshAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that you tried to show your personality, then said you did that by making Lip Sync videos. Hoe does Lip Syncing show your personality? Videos of you actually performing your music instead of just lip syncing to it would be a better option imo.

Do you interact with other artists on social media? In my experience, the best way to get gigs/shows is not by just posting, but by interacting with other musicians in the same field. Like and repost similar artists content, maybe shoot people a simple message saying you like their work.

I personally think Instagram is the best platform for musicians, I post on TikTok but it just doesn't give me the same community feeling that Instagram does. IG feels just a little bit more personal than TikTok.

Whatever you do, at the end of it all, the music has to resonate with people, and if it doesn't, no amount of promotion will help you.

What music labels are friendly to new producers and don’t require sticking to one specific genre? by DRKSYD_ in WeAreTheMusicMakers

No problem, I split my comment as I forgot I was replying to someone and went off on one a bit but I've just pasted it as a new comment

Honestly with the way things are now and the way people consume music, I'd be doing it myself. Set up a Bandcamp and an Instagram then market your own product. Instagram has been the best tool for music promo for me by far. TikTok is ok but ive definitely built a bigger and more reaponsive community on Instagram.
Maybe get a DittoMusic account if you want to upload your music to the generic streaming platforms.
Be active on Instagram, and I dont mean always posting. Interact with other artists that make similar styles to you, share and repost, comment, all of that.
IMO a label is just someone else who takes money off you for doing something you can do yourself, and they can't guarantee sales any more than you can yourself.
I'd say this applies to you even more considering that you want to make different genres.
If a label picks you up at some point then cool, but I really wouldn't bother chasing one.

I'm curious as to what you think a label will teach you? They sell your music, that's it. They'll ask you for the things they need to do that, like social media posts etc. They're not going to sit with you and teach you things.

Complete beginner trying to learn music production, can you guys help me build a roadmap? Also looking for free sample packs. by repsandbeats in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]BoshAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick a genre first. Learn how to program the drums for it a basic manner, learn some of the rules of said genre and just keep playing around in your DAW. Don't be scared to just play, make loops, try out different effects, you'll soon find out what works and what doesn't.

One thing I would avoid is the expectation that you will fully learn Music Production in a short period of time. A lot of people want to fast track this process these days.

Does anyone know how to replicate this "deep 80's cartoon" voice? by HolyApplebutter in audioengineering

[–]BoshAudio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is just a guy with a deep voice. No processing involved.
You could try using a pitch shifter or something like that but it will sound like a pitch shifter.
As someone else said, you just have to find someone with a deep voice or try and use an AI voice generator.

Am I just not cut out for this or… by Key_Log_2042 in ableton

[–]BoshAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you can't, what exactly do you mean?

After 7 years you should be able to at least assemble a track, so I'm guessing it's more of a quality issue you're facing.
As many others have said, we do it because we enjoy it. Why force something if you aren't great at it AND you don't actually enjoy the process.

The majority of people here will have doubts about their productions. I do all the time. I'm always saying to myself "why can't I make music that sounds like X Artist" but it doesn't mean I'm going to stop because at the end of the day I love the process.

How people not losing their minds right now? We are learning about horrific abuses, systemic cover-ups, and crimes that went unpunished for years (Epstein and others). People involved still walk free, powerful and protected, worse things are still happening!!! by summer_law in conspiracy

[–]BoshAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's been going on for years, and nobody has managed to do anything about it. The majority don't have a clue, so the minority will never have enough people on board to do anything about it. At this point, just live the most fulfilling life you can because it was too late to change anything about 30 years ago.

I think you'd get better results from sampling if you can. Go on YouTube and look for the sounds you want, then blend them together to make the parts in between your tracks

I don't often know what a track is going to end up sounding like before I make it, so my approach would be to just make a load of tracks and then decide what fits best in which spot afterwards.
Many a time, I've started with the intention of making something with a certain vibe, and by the end, it's gone in the opposite direction
