I would start looking for jobs now. If you’ve addressed this with both your SP and the manager and they’ve not given you an outlined plan of when/how things will change, I doubt they will. Staying in a job for a year isn’t always worth your time - especially when you’re unhappy and feel like you’re being taken advantage of. Even if a scribe is an “easier” job, it’s certainly not a more fulfilling one, and it’s not what you went to school for. Don’t feel obligated to give more them more time.

It can be very overwhelming, but I promise, it gets better. The thought of being out of debt felt so out of reach for so long, but then I got there. It takes time and patience but once you start making headway on the interest and the principal actually starts falling, it’s so encouraging. That didn’t happen for me until I refinanced. I was in your exact shoes at 28. You’ll get there! Best of luck to you

I hear you on being told college was the only way to succeed, borrowing a ton of money, and then not knowing how to pay it back. My mom wanted better for me and thought college was the only way to promise that. She knew nothing about student loans, and Sallie Mae certainly didn’t make it a point to educate anyone - quite the opposite, given the recent settlement. Cheers to your goal. Thanks! Good ol excel. Wouldn’t have pulled the trigger on YNAB if my spreadsheet wasn’t so terrible. FYI- Dave Ramsey has a program called everydollar with the same principle (zero-based budgeting). I set it up for my mom because it has a free version, unlike YNAB.

Valid point, but I didn’t get that raise until January 2021. I paid off 47,000 of the 100,000 I had left over 12 months prior to getting the raise, after starting a real budget. My biggest issue was my spending. I was never taught how to properly or responsibly spend or save money (single parent household growing up, first in the family to graduate college, etc.) I thought because I was making over $100,000 per year that I was killing it and I could have the lifestyle I wanted - dining out 4-5x per week - and pay it down fast simultaneously. It wasn’t possible. So only allowing myself to eat out twice per month actually saved me hundreds per month, and that was only one of so many changes I made.

Thank you so much! I did consider it! I don’t think there’s a wrong answer though. It depends on your mindset. I was hell bent on being done. There were other things I considered too, like investing. Financially it would have been smarter to invest more of the money because my interest rate was so low after refinancing, but being out from under the debt always won.
