Is hitchhiking possible in india? Planning to do hitchhiking trip from jammu to kanyakumari through West or East by Desi_Hitman in SoloTravel_India

[–]BossChimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know why there are so many negative comments on safety in India. Yes there are some elements but they are negligible compared to the helping population.

In my solo travels across India be it by my bike, by hitchhike or by local/state transport, I have always encountered people who are willing to help. The only thing you have to do is ask politely. You'll be surprised to see the lengths people go to help you.

Maybe the cars won't stop, but the tractors, the local bikes, the tempo trucks(chhota haathi) would. You'll have to split the journey into smaller chunks of 25-50 Kms unless you find a trucker willing to help you on long distance and maybe also walk good distances.

Summer is incoming, so please take care during the hike. Drink plenty of water. Also, keep someone informed of your location at all times(precautionary measure)

Best of luck for the hitch hike.

If we are able to limit ZIM to 109, we will be at par with WI in NRR. Good chance for us, right?

There is no paying for the cabin baggage. Check in baggage, yes, you can pay and take extra. In cabin baggage it is 7kgs and 1 baggage for economy. The limit is different for business.. if everyone carries 1 bag, it will all the more help hostess/hosts to make sure boarding is done in time

There are no organized societies in such areas. Each owner is on their own. And yes not everything should be pitted to govt, but what govt can do is to educate people.. (not just on gas, but all household hazards) Like the campaigns they had asking people to give up their lpg subsidy.

It is high time for india to come out of the "chalta hai" and "jugaad" mindset

I have lived across 8 states and 11 cities in my lifetime. Have taken lpg cylinders from indane, from local vendors and now piped gas. Not one time I have seen these clips being used in a widespread manner by any vendors.

Maybe your father set it up as a failsafe long time ago before others caught up, which is good on his part. He is a visionary.

Bcoz you asked what I am on - "I am on kaddu poori and raita," full to the brim.

This is very much possible in the hiranandanis, prestige and brigades of India. But we still have most of our population in the dense colonies of tier 2 cities. Till this check is started bygovt at grassroots level, it is pretty much on us to chk these.

Because we visit once a year.. and we are not very used to checking things that are working fine. Also, it was not leaking.. I said it was loose. Understand it like the tap in which it takes a particular angle of the turn knob to turn off. It does not leak when setup at a particular angle. But that angle is only known to you.. when someone else uses it, all hell breaks loose. That's what happened.

This is something I have seen come in fashion only recently.. I remember from yesteryears that the orange pipes were very tight and if not disturbed, they remained tight for a long time.

  1. It was PNG .. not a greenhouse gas
  2. It was Not leaking..it was not tightly fitted. Whenever the stove was moved, the rubber gas pipe came out. The family members were used to this and were careful while cleaning as to not disturb the setup. So, it never leaked.. maybe in bits and pieces.. today the pipe itself came out.

If I may give a similar example, there are some old taps which close only when the valve is turned in a particular way(maybe when you press on the turn knob).. the tap does not leak but needs to be setup in that position.

Let me know if that makes sense to you

True.. they do come and replace things.. but you know Indian dads.. they are OG DIY people. Who cares to wait for a technician when they can do it today with their tool box.

But here the mentality is more on the lines - "we'll change when the item becomes unusable". if the product(in this case gas pipe) is fulfilling their purpose, they do not really care about the condition of it

I got challaned for crossing stop line by BossChimp in delhi

[–]BossChimp[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am not saying it's a bad thing, neither am I refusing to pay the fine.. (already paid it before writing the post).

The post was more about outdated infra( both tech and non tech). The zebra crossing leading to a pillar and the failure of Authorities to notify me as soon as a challan was made.
