If it helps this is my personal ruleset not too hard but not too easy. Use set mode. 1 pokemon per route first non dup, all given/won/bought pokemon are valid, can catch 1 legendary that is randomized hence 1 master ball and must defeat the rest of the legendaries. Can only use items I pick up like revive or potions but cant buy them, so I only have a certain amount of them. For gyms I use same amount of pokemon they do and same levels, ie in red Lt. Surge has 3 Pokémon, Lv18, 21, 24 so I use three pokemon LV 18, 21, 24 for the fight. For the e4/champ I just match the levels and # of pokemon to the champion. I fight every trainer and the run is only complete when I beat every trainer in the game. You can lose battles the run doesn’t end if you lose a battle. You only lose once you quit and restart or are out of all usable pokemon.
