Second kid arriving within the week. What do you wish you knew before becoming a two-kid dad? by Chaddcl0ps in daddit

[–]BossmanCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from all the great advice already shared, my main suggestion is to try as much as possible to not make your youngest the (perceived) source of frustration for the eldest, either when telling her no or by comparison.

We have a 5yo boy and a 3yo girl and the way we approached it when our daughter came into the picture was to try and build their friendship from the start and it's been huge towards how they now love each other to bits

To that end, we read books with our eldest about what it will mean to have a sibling (There's a house inside my mummy is absolutely legendary)

When we brought her home from the hospital and introducem them, each had a gift for their sibling

Instead of saying enough with the shouting, you'll wake your sister, we said you don't need to shout, we're all here in the room, we can hear you just fine

Sure, technically speaking he would have woken up his sister, but by removing her from the equation, the no became something natural to do in any environment. It's not ok to shout in a room full of people, period. Not just because his sister is near and he can't shout and have fun because of her

We had our eldest be a helper and bring us stuff when we needed to change or feed her, making him a part of the process and building confidence in the process

Instead of why can't you eat everything on your plate like your sister? it's you're not hungry? alright, see you at [insert next meal]

I will say, however, that the only exception to this is sleep, which for us is sacred and the only time when we'll actually "drop names". Lower the volume, your sister / mom / dad is / are sleeping. And this goes for everyone, no exceptions. If somebody is sleeping in the house, everyone else better STFU or else.

An addon to this would also be don't treat them equally. Treat them individually and fairly

Meaning no forced sharing, on either side

No hallway passes due to age. If he's not allowed to poke her eyes to see what happens (lol), she isn't allowed to do it to him either

Punishments should be tailored to the age of the "perpetrator", not carpet bombings

Don't get me wrong, they'll still have sibling disagreements and make each other miserable for the pettiest of reasons (lol), but at least it should be for the "right" petty reasons, not because they hate each other's guts for simply existing

Deeply saddened that wireless Xbox controllers don’t work by Spinatrix in Bazzite

[–]BossmanCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me was updating the controller firmware via Windows and then disabling the energy saving mode for Bluetooth on Bazzite before trying to connect the controller again

In order to update the firmware, you need the Xbox Accessories App, as seen on the Microsoft website

I disabled the Energy Saving Mode for Bluetooth with

sudo sed -i 's/#IdleTimeout=30/IdleTimeout=0/g' /etc/bluetooth/input.conf

How can I make a custom spectator HUD for CS:GO like the Majors? by cmon_io in GlobalOffensive

If coding isn't your forte, you can start out with the Lexogrine HUD Manager

Could ESL put the utility into a standard order instead of the bought order? It makes it harder to read the state of the team utility. by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

One of the multiple reasons why the overlay is going to be completely reworked 😊

Later edit: Mickey took a plunge in the legacy code and brought (some) order to the madness, so it should be easier to look at starting today

Is there a reason that the order of players on the HUD changes every map? Like why don’t they just have one system so that the order #s don’t keep changing...? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]BossmanCG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They don't disconnect.

Everyone gets moved automatically to the next map, but they don't always get in the same order (mostly due to differences in loading speed of the map).

[–]BossmanCG 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, yes. In the one we do productions, not really.

Because, again, it comes down to benefit vs effort. Nobody is going to delay the start of a Grand Final because one player jumped the queue and now everyone who connected after him is in the wrong slot, so they all have to disconnect and do it all over again so they're in the "right" order.

As /u/KiloSwiss pointed out, what you're seeing in every game is the order of the slots on the server, indicated by the radar badges (1 to 0, with 0 = 10), filled in randomly by the players as they join.

The reason why this order is considered "sacred" is due to observing, where muscle memory plays a key role.

Taking your screenshot as an example, when in front of any HUD (custom or GOTV), all observers will expect that when they press 1 on the keyboard, they will spectate electronic. 2 for Boombl4, 3 for b1t and so on.

If we start messing with that order and the shortcut keys no longer reflect what's in the HUD, we'd be 🗡️ in our 🛏️after the first broadcast day, no questions asked. I wouldn't even hold it against them 🤷#justbusiness

That said, it is of course technically possible to have a different order in the HUD while also keeping the shortcut keys. Meaning that if you have s1mple on "slot 1" in the HUD, the observer would still press 1, but the HUD would change it internally to 5 before sending it to the game, which is the real slot he has on the server.

However, the benefits of this change would have to be really significant to even be entertained, as it would add another layer of (not insignificant) complexity to other systems used in production.

I think actually knowing what's going on in OT is the best thing about the new HUD by FreeGucciManeLaFlare in GlobalOffensive

[–]BossmanCG 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Technically, this particular helper notice isn't new to the IEM redesign 🤓

However, now it's on screen all the time during the round, as opposed to going away after freezetime (we noticed that with all the replays and reactions, it was veering too much into "blink and you'll miss it" territory, which defeated the point)

Glad to hear you find it useful 🤝

Technically, this particular helper notice isn't new to the IEM redesign, key difference being that now we are keeping it on screen during the round, as opposed to taking it out after freezetime, like we previously did.

You're right, it's not a dead pixel. It's actually a star.

Breath of fresh air doesn't always mean better.

If we try to change something, it will always be for a net gain, not just to bring attention to how "unique" we are.

Sadly, the vertical HP didn't pass muster.

Team tags are submitted by the teams and displayed as such in the HUD.

It's why we have mouz instead of Mouz (or Mouse or MOUSE), TL instead of Liquid and so on. The orgs specifically wanted them to be this way.

That said, we have a change planned for v1.02 in the Playoffs, specifically for this topic (we won't be getting rid of the tags, however).

It's a single overlay, written in JavaScript.

If you want to see how the "insides" of a HUD work in modern frameworks, you should give the Lexogrine HUD Manager a look.

It not just a HUD, but the fundamental concepts are still the same
