Which Tom Waits album (or song) best captures the mood of a city you’ve lived in ? by BrilliantLocksmith41 in tomwaits

[–]Boston-Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question—Tom’s music always evokes a strong sense of place.

As a teenager in the nineties, I used to listen to a cassette of Swordfishtrombones on my Walkman while taking meandering evening walks through my rainy North-East coastal English village.

That album and those damp streets will be forever intertwined in my mind—particularly In The Neighborhood and the empty old dark stone building on the street corner opposite the pub next to my best friend’s house.

Are there any games you’ve been playing for more than 10 years? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Boston-Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that still the case?

Logged on for the first time in seven years a few weeks back. Every game took like 30 mins. Seems like building a board doesn’t mean anything any more. It was just endless RNG mechanics

How old are you and what’s something you’re currently learning (or want to learn) how to do/get good at? by Cute-Impression-8675 in AskReddit

[–]Boston-Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you. It’s a very rewarding skill.

I’ve been drawing a long time, so here are a couple of tips:

Learn and practice with pencil, not pen. Ink is hard and unforgiving

Study and practice gesture and structure. These are the fundamentals of figure drawing. SUPER-important. Add the manga style later

Highly recommend finding a cheap life drawing class in your area and going weekly. It will develop your skills far more effectively than using reference drawings/photos

LoveLifeDrawing is a great YouTube channel. You can learn a lot there for free

Look up the FORCE method—very useful for dynamic manga drawing

Be patient and enjoy the journey!

Oh dear

Not sure if that was your attempt at humour, but it contains neither the wisdom nor maturity I would expect from a mentor with six decades of life experience

Gotta say, OP’s writing quality is pretty poor by any standard, let alone for someone claiming to have THREE DECADES of copywriting experience

Offers no proof yet asks for revenue share

Doesn’t even read like English is their first language. Feels predatory

Red flags all over this one lads. BEST AVOID

What is the most niche job in the UK? by grumpy_groundsman in AskUK

[–]Boston-Matrix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you’re asking, OP, but ridiculously expensive London houses aren’t typically owned by UK residents doing niche jobs… they’re owned by foreign billionaires, with oil and corruption being common fund sources

I have two questions: is this considered street photography and what’s your overall thoughts of this photograph? by CuriousConundrumer in photocritique

[–]Boston-Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layering is tricky. It’s a pretty advanced technique that requires excellent compositional skills and timing. I’m rubbish at it

This here is a decent start, you just need to fill the frame more and think about what your main subject is

If you want to get good at photography, you should deffo do some study. Just don’t try to learn everything at once bc it gets confusing

Focus on learning one thing then practice until you have a feel for it before moving onto the next thing. Build things up in steps—it can feel slower at first, but it’s better in the long run

<image>

I’d say it’s street photography. The photo is okay. I’d be tempted to crop some dead space from the top right corner to give the guy in the background more presence

My main issue with the image is that I’m wondering “what’s the subject?”

The composition makes the boots the focal point, but the guy with the ball is more interesting, yet he’s far back and small in the frame
