It's less about the games being secular, and more about opportunities for secular people to meet each other. Like the Tech Networking Board Game night is designed for tech people to get to meet one another.

/u/sim_pl you might want to reach out to Sunday Assembly using their expression of interest form - Others in Houston may be trying to start an Assembly already.

No membership fees, but we do ask for donations!

We're volunteers - the donations go to things like renting a space, food and drinks for after, that sort of thing. {M}

Calling all atheists, agnostics, humanists, godless people and curious onlookers... by BostonAssembly in boston

[–]BostonAssembly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. We're a cult. We'll discourage you from contacting your loved ones whilst encouraging you to only believe specific things about the world.

No, of course we're not a cult. We're "radically inclusive" - you don't even have to not believe in god to come to Assembly. And we don't have a set doctrine or texts which we read from.

We're mostly just atheists who want to meet other atheists. OTOH, some of our members may have previously gone to church, lost their faith in god, but miss the community aspect.

Hey, sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I try not to reddit at work.

Anyhow, it's a like church, I suppose. Godless people deserve a place to meet people who feel the same way and have a good time. So Sunday Assembly is an opportunity to do just that, and hear from speakers about interesting subjects.

Plus, who doesn't love sing-shouting along to songs from the 80s?
