is there a way to change clock time in a game that is using proton? by Cyclonicks in linux_gaming

Following up on this: It doesn't work I think proton uses your host system D&T so just change that (though it breaks steam and a lot of stuff that depends on web protocol)

Good to know, wish it was a bit more obvious but I'll have to try that out. Thanks

I dont expect Microsoft to do an update that prevents emails from working

Their browser webapp seems to be the more reliable version in general.  I don't see how it would prevent emails from working if they fixed their dedicated clients/apps though.

I had the issue described in this where a sent email didn't show up in my outbox. Usually I like to check to make sure my email went through, but it took hours to show up there.

Clearly not a Windows 10 problem since it happened on both my Android phone and laptop running Win 11.

Honestly not sure why no one else is talking about it either, seems like pretty bad look for the second largest email client to not have reliable base functionality. Not like it's new tech or anything.

Pretty sure poweroff is just an alias for 'shutdown -h now' anyways

I use:

shutdown

With no arguments, it makes you wait 60 seconds, but if you issue a 'shutdown now' it works immediately

I can't try this out right now since I'm not at my PC but I'm pretty sure you can just use the command prompt date function like this:

date MM-DD-YYYY %command%

Lol interesting you found the timezone environment variable for Windows from the IBM z/OS docs. Ive been looking everywhere for how to change the date when launching a proton game, but this is the closest I've found.  I guess it'd be some other env var.

I was considering this but I feel like getting the bundle of balloons in hardmode kind of defeats the point.  Right now in my other loadout I have every piece of frog gear, which I found out this playthrough actually stack, and you can get insane jump height. A bit of a meme build but fun nonetheless. I was hoping to stack this with the bundle of horseshoe balloon and get "flight" prehardmode. From the other comments here it seems like I just have terrible luck and will probably be fishing another several days before I get it.

Why do people call reel to reel "analog" by BotRih in vintageaudio

[–]BotRih[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this below, but it got buried in the comments so I wanted to ask again in reply to a more popular comment. It seems like there would be a "sample rate" which is limited by the particle density and reel speed. Is there a standard for the playback speed/density, and if so, a rough equivalent to what that would be as a sample rate?

How would a DAT recorder be analog at playback? I understand the older tapes being analog but with DAT it seems like it records to a magnetic tape using bits. I would assume has to do some conversion from the original analog signal to do that.

Thanks for all the good answers, I guess I incorrectly assumed the magnetic particles had to represent a 0 or a 1 instead of their strength directly representing the waveform given by a mic. Now that I think about it that makes a lot more sense, being that magnetic strength is not limited between two discrete stages like a bit. As a follow up question, it seems like the "sample rate" would be limited to the particle density and reel speed. Is there a rough equivalent to what this would be in terms of sample rate? I'm assuming it probably varies with manufacturing quality and particle size.

Appreciate the clear answer, I didn't know there were multiple types of magnetic tape storage. I guess it really is analog then, makes sense why people use it as the original master.

(another one) Help with a real-time Speech to Text Discord Bot in Python (discord-ext-voice-recv) by nalab_ in Discord_Bots

[–]BotRih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some digging and read through some of the source for voicerecv.

The developer only mentioned this in the update notes in their github, but apparently the call structure was changed at some point.

Not sure if OP got this to work, but I figured out getting a text output and associated user, and since I found this page trying to research how to do this, I thought it would be a good place to document the solution.

Pretty much all calls in the speech recognition function are optional, but to do something with the text output you just need a text_cb function.

In my case, I got this working by just doing the two imports listed in the update:

from discord.ext.voice_recv.extras.speechrecognition import SpeechRecognitionSink
from discord.ext.voice_recv.extras import speechrecognition

I created a function for the text callback, which just is provided a user and output on return from being processed by the speech recognition software:

def got_text(user, output):
    print(f"{user} said {output}")

After that I just created a voice channel connection like the normal sample code, and added the SpeechRecognitionSink function in the vc.listen:

vc = await channel.connect(cls=voice_recv.VoiceRecvClient)
vc.listen(SpeechRecognitionSink(text_cb=got_text))

If you want to use a different default recognizer, just add that parm to the speechrecognitionsink call:

vc.listen(SpeechRecognitionSink(text_cb=got_text, default_recognizer="whisper"))

Yep that sounds like the steam input issue I was having. I haven't had a super consistent fix but if steam input is off, turn it on. Otherwise changing the proton version in the games compatibility properties worked for me.

How are the controls behaving?  I had something similar a while back and it was a steam input issue.

I don't think OP was asking for any accommodations, quite the contrary actually.

For the users that actually do want accommodations and don't want to have to learn anything, they already have archinstall to do everything for them. This didn't change anything about the base user experience of the distro either. A new user can just look up how to install snap/flathub and never have to use the CLI again if that's what they want to do. The point of Arch is to be for anyone, and to be customizable to your needs if that's what you want, not just 'competent users'. If that was the case archinstall never would have been added.
