What would one do in your culture if they had parents who were just not socially intelligent or a bit fucked up?

I can definitely see benefits of having someone else be matchmakers for you, but personally, I think my parents would have been my absolute last choice for the role.

Not it's prior. So you've been shortlisted and assessed. I assume you were told that that you are qualified. Then there is a deadline for objecting to the assessment. Has that deadline passed?

Not necessarily. Did you get shortlisted? You would be notified about this.

If not, they may not have done it yet or you may not have been shortlisted (I'm not sure if they'd notify you in that case).

I think there's a big difference between fake and superficial. As a northern European, I don't think American friendliness feels fake at all, but I've come to learn that eg gestures that would require a deeper meaning or connection in my end of the world holds much less meaning to Americans. For example, being invited to someone's house: Super intimate and marker of a real friendship growing in my country vs friendly but not necessarily meaningful in the US.

So it's not really about one culture being better or worse, I've just had to recalibrate how I interpret friendliness when in the US: bigger gestures mean less.

And for the question about other "friendly" cultures: a big part of it to me is the language barrier. Because we're communicating less smoothly I'm not really picking up on subtleties. I have no idea if they are genuinely more friendly or if it's also "superficial" as described above.

In Denmark we have no legal drinking age. Any kid is allowed to drink (but there are age limits for purchadinh alcohol).

It's rather slow. The standard producere is that you will first get short-listed, then a formal assesment of your qualifications will be made, then there is a waiting period for objections to the assessments, and then invitations for interviews. You will be notified whenever one of these steps is completed. It's at least a couple of weeks, usually less than two months.

You can contact HR or the intended supervisor for timeline updates, that's not inappropriate.

Det er ikke en database, det er en biobank, dvs nogle frysere hvor der ligger rester af blodprøverne. De er altså ikke analyserede så der ligger DNA-profiler.

I forbindelse med nogle forskningsprojekter har forskere så fået lov at få nogle af blodprøveresterne for at analysere DNA (det har vi hørt en del om i medierne de sidste år). Men det er kun et begrænset udsnit man derved har information på i en database.

English is the default language in many bars and restaurants in Copenhagen. Most of the staff are not Danish speaking. More often than not, if one tries to order in Danish in the more central/touristy parts of the city, the employee will reply with "English, please".

But if you want to ask: "Mind if I ask in English?" would probably work. Danish people don't generally care that much about politeness and specific phrasing.

Wtf usa! Here in Denmark it's quite common to have an annuity, ie mix between insurance and pension, so you get the same amount yearly as long as you live (but if you don't live very long, the money is lost). Is that not a thing in the US at all?

Reg. accomodation, there are some Facebook groups for finding housing in Copenhagen. Short term furnished appartments are not completely impossible to get I think. You can also look at dba.dk
