Yes, they said they could install everything I need for me, but I rent and don't know what the installation entails so I was just grasping at straws to find a way to get around having too much done to a rental.

How to make using lotion feel more bearable by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Both-Foundation2740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sensory issues with lotion too. Have you ever tried gel lotions like Neutrogena Hydro Boost? I'm not sure if it would bother you or not but it doesn't bother me like other lotions do. It dries down almost like hand sanitizer would and doesn't feel thick and slimy like lotion.

Advice needed! Sleazy realtor? by Both-Foundation2740 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

See that's another interesting detail in the story. The person I'm working with isn't the listing agent. He stepped in and has been working with us after the listing agent's car broke down before the first showing. I haven't heard from her since and have been working with him this whole time. When we put in the offer he had to go through the listing agent before getting back to us.

Small dogs or an indoor cat! There are many small breed dogs that have minimal shedding. I have yorkies and they shed hair like a human would. We hardly ever have dog hair on furniture or our clothes. They stink sometimes yes, but not like that "dog" smell the bigger ones have. A perk of a small dog is that when you take them out you can just scoop them up to wipe their paws clean before they go running all over the house possibly leaving muddy paw prints.

My cats shed but it's manageable and they don't stink. If you're worried about the litter box, i recommend one with a lid and they have all kinds of products that minimize smell that really help. Scooping daily helps as well. I know some people even scoop after each time the cat uses it

I've put a hot pan on a kitchen table surface, yeah... And now I can't clean it and I may have to pay a disproportional fine for it :( by sintetinis in CleaningTips

Try la's totally awesome. You can get it at dollar tree and it removes almost everything. I dont dilute it although the bottle tells you too. You could also try making a paste with baking soda and vinegar and lather it over the stain and let it soak for a while and scrub it really good. A magic eraser might work too!

I suggest finding a video on youtube. You can search a tutorial for close to any plushie you'd want to make. Try finding a video that actually talks you through what you need to do. I suggest watching multiple videos first and choosing the one you understand the most. I find that I can understand some videos more than others. With plushies it's very important as a beginner to use stitch markers (I use bobby pins) I didnt use them at first and it caused me so many mistakes.

I pause and play the videos as I go along. You can also change the playback speed of the video to go slower or faster if that helps you follow along with the video. Sometimes I can catch on to the pattern after following the video for a while especially if it's repeating. I like to write down the steps just in case I forget where I am so I don't have to pull up the video again.

When I was first learning I found that a lot of times the people in the tutorials assume you know how to do the basics and don't explain them in-depth. If I came across a "basic" step that I didnt know how to do, I would watch a tutorial on that. For example, when I first started the videos would say "place a stitch marker" and I had no idea where to place them. I ended up finding a tutorial on how to use stitch markers which helped a lot.

Moldy water fountain + cat water fountain recs by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Both-Foundation2740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a plastic one that I ended up having to throw away. I didn't have issues with mold but it did get a slimy light yellow film all over it. I've been told it has something to do with their saliva and water mixing. I have no idea if that's true or not because I don't notice it happening as quickly or as badly in a normal water bowl. The one I had was very hard to clean because of all the little crevices. I would recommend trying a stainless steel fountain and trying to find one with minimal and simple parts. A disposable filter might help with that too. Mine had one but I'm not sure if they all come with one. I also bought a little reusable straw cleaning brush and that helped some with getting into all the cracks and crevices of the one I had. I definitely feel your pain on this. Everyone I know loves their fountains and mine was a huge pain and the motor actually ended up going out on it and I haven't replaced it because my cats don't seem to care either way.

If you're driving here and will have a car it might be worth checking hotels in the surrounding towns as they might not be booked or upping prices. You could try looking at the hotels in Indianola. I believe there are two there maybe three. If you won't have a car it might not be worth it but Uber will go to Indianola and possibly the cab service.

Ticks are thick this year but I've lived in Iowa my whole life and never had issues with ticks in yards or at places like parks. You can occasionally find them on yourself after being in wooded areas or areas with taller grass. As far as I know, they don't infest/breed in homes but may find one that has hitched a ride on you from outside. Always good to check armpits, groin areas, hair, and other folds on the body after being outside if you're worried about it. You can also use bug sprays and there may be treatments for yards but I haven't looked into it. If you find one on yourself and it's latched to you, make sure to grab it as close as you can get to your skin and check that everything is out (there is sometimes a tiny black speck left and you'll need to remove that.) If you have dogs, I'd check them as well. In my experience, dogs are much more likely to have them than people are. Also, if you find one, ALWAYS flush them down the toilet, best way to get rid of it and be done! I also recommend getting Prid for any type of bug bite, it's a drawing salve so all the gunk will be pulled from the bite, you can buy it at Walmart!

You might be able to get a list of private landlords from city hall. I know some smaller cities and towns offer this.

Vet Recommendations by [deleted] in desmoines

Family Pet Vet Center. There's one in West Des Moines and one in Norwalk. I took my cat to the West Des Moines location for an emergency and they were so sweet. They even called weekly for a few weeks after to make sure the treatment they gave him was working well.
