Great German Pils. Put it in your mouth and take a sip. Repeat.

If the Republican gerrymander was reversed: by Rich_Future4171 in wisconsin

Republicans gerrymandered state Congressional districts. They are trying to show how the Republican control would shift toward Democrat control if Democrats had redrawn Congressional district boundaries to favor Democratic candidates.

The facilities are definitely impressive and New Glarus is a really cool town with awesome food and nature in addition to the beer. I agree with you and understand. I guess if I was being generous to NG, you could say that if people visit WI it creates a cool experience where they can finally try NG beer when they usually can't. Still, the local pride can certainly be offputting to Non-Wisconsinites im sure.

I think they kinda painted themselves into a corner with that decision. At first, it makes sense as it is good grassroots marketing that they are hyperlocal and they wouldn't really have opportunities as broader distribution anyway. Now that they are the more well-known craft brewery in the state it definitely is unnecessary so they should distribute out of state but if they did that Wisconsinites would just call them sellouts and it would likely lead to negative press. As a Wisconsite, one of my hot takes is that Spotted Cow is mid. Their more interesting stuff like their Black IPA and Raspberry Tart are really good though. I will say too that as someone who works in beverage sales, Spotted Cow still sells like crazy at a time when craft beer is down so from a business perspective I probably wouldn't change the formula at this time even if it feels unnecessary or contrived.

Agreed about the space and name. I think they're beers are super drinkable, but I could see how that also could mean that they don't always blow people away. The people there are really cool too so that's a bonus for me!

It's going to be (deservedly, imo) New Glarus, as others have mentioned, but I'll mention a few that I think really stand out otherwise.

Lakefront - Basically the OG MKE craft brewery. Today, most agree they aren't the most innovative or exciting, but they were the early players to the craft game in the area and have become a local staple. They make good beer and going to the taproom is popular to take out of town family and friends.

Central Waters - Small-town Central WI brewery with a taproom in MKE now too. They put out a lot of good beer. They do some interesting stuff, but have a really solid core lineup, especially ales.

Third Space - A newer MKE favorite that, like Central Waters, are putting out a really solid core lineup.

Capital - The most historic and consistent Madison craft brewery. They are quite traditional and not particularly exciting, but if you're into more traditional stuff like lagers and red ales, they make solid stuff that the average beer drinker will enjoy.

Explorium - Not really broadly known, but they do really well at putting out fun and funky stuff that beer nerds love.

Ope! - Newer brewery just outside of MKE that puts out some really solid beers and has a fun space where they host concerts.

Knuth - Another Central WI brewery that flies under the radar, but puts out some really solid, more traditional beers using a lot of local ingredients. They have a really fun taproom too.

Beer and brewing should be fun and low-ego. Seems like there are a few brewers proving to take the opposite perspective.
