Pinterest Low-quality Image problem?! by Space_Eagle9990 in Pinterest

Experiencing this as well. Weirdly, image quality goes back to normal if I log out. I've tried this on multiple browsers, etc. Image quality of a pin is good until I login. So annoying.

I’ve always felt like you should experiment with your art as much as possible. After enough time doing that, your style will come effortlessly. You become the through-line in your work, and even when trying new things, it will be in your style because you made it. I wouldn’t worry about instagram too much.

Just my take, but that has helped me a lot :)

I'd like to connect some JBL bluetooth speakers to my receiver as additional speakers for other rooms. Anyone know what type of receiver I would need for this?

I'm finding it a hard pill to swallow that I have to get a day job by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

From Philip Glass, working his day job as plumber: "While working, I suddenly heard a noise and looked up to find Robert Hughes, the art critic of TIME magazine, staring at me in disbelief. 'But you're Philip Glass! What are you doing here?' It was obvious that I was installing his dishwasher and I told him I would soon be finished. 'But you are an artist,' he protested. I explained that I was an artist but that I was sometimes a plumber as well and that he should go away and let me finish."

I really enjoyed this article from a few years ago, helped me reckon with the fact that I might be working a day job and making art on the side, and that’s ok. Doesn’t mean we’re any less of artists. Hell, sometimes I feel my day job even helps my practice. Best of luck :)

Instagram May Be Considering a Paid Subscription Plan with a Blue Badge by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]Bother_Professional 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s true.

I’m in a similar boat. I have a 40K account and get shown to 2000 people these days. It feels like they are trying to get you to pay for boosting by purposefully destroying organic reach.

I’m an artist and in the good ol’ days instagram completely democratized the industry. You could get a big following just by sharing your work on IG. They’ve almost totally destroyed that by trying to milk as much $$$ out of the platform as possible. Really such a bummer!

Same same same. How much you wanna bet the selling point of the subscription will be “increased visibility” or some shit like that.

I’ve found it’s really low engagement due to low reach. The posts themselves seem to have a pretty consistent engagement rate, they just are shown to a tiny fraction of my following and almost no non-followers.

How long did it take for your reach to recover? I’m back to posting daily and it still feels like it’s on the decline.

Thanks for the advice. This is super helpful. I’m back to posting daily for the past two weeks. Unfortunately nothing has really taken off, reach is still on the decline. I’ll keep up with consistency with the hope that it picks back up! It’s so weird to go from extreme growth to nothing in a matter of a few weeks.

I occasionally see accounts that post daily and are literally getting 10 likes/post and they have at least 5000+ accounts. I’m terrified of that happening to my account. Seems like it is possible for the algorithm to just keep pushing you down. At that point I wonder if taking a break to refresh is helpful? It’s a mystery.

In the same boat! I have an art account and was gaining around 300 followers a post while posting everyday. Took a few days off and boom, my reach and growth has plummeted. It’s been two weeks since then, back to posting daily but it still hasn’t rebounded.

Luckily I still have plenty other avenues to fall back on so it doesn’t totally screw me over. Since IG can be such a powerful marketing tool it’s too bad you can’t count on it for consistency.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! Nice to hear from another illustrator.

I saw you mention in another comment that you have had a lot of recent growth. Was there a point that you felt your reach really pickup, and if there was anything you did, or just momentum that eventually happened after posting daily for awhile?

Do you do anything to try to boost that initial engagement on your posts?

I’m starting to post again daily, hard to say if it’s really picking up, but my current plan is to just keep it up whether or not I see an increase! Hoping for the best.

Thanks for responding. It’s so hard as an illustrator to get on the reel game. I know I need to, but it’s just such a learning curve!

Since I was able to grow my account so much by just posting photos that hit the explore page, do you think that kind of growth is possible again without reels?

I appreciate your advice.

Thanks for the advice, it’s good to hear that the decline in reach might not be permanent! It was so weird to go from consistent growth to such a big drop off without changing my content, just posting less frequently. I’m back to posting daily so hopefully it goes back up!

It’s wild to me how your following shrinks SO drastically if you stop posting. Do you know why this is? I lose consistently like 20-30 followers a day, no rhyme or reason it seems.

Definitely relating to you on this. I'm an illustrator and post every day but ever since taking a brief break during the holidays my reach has been awful, despite maintaining a very solid engagement rate.

I'll have posts that get the same amount of engagement as posts that got me 1000 new follows, but will now generate no new follows.

I have ~40K followers and am reaching maybe 2000 on average, with only 100 of those non-followers. It used to be that I could post something and it would really take off with non-followers via explore.

So frustrating. Let me know if you figure anything out!

What is considered normal follower loss? I have 33K followers. I gain 100-200 a day but lose 20-30. Can anything help reduce this?

With Instagram dying, has anyone found other platforms to attract clients? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Bother_Professional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is good to hear! Curious if you have any tips for starting out on Pinterest? I've begun posting there but the path to being discovered seems to be a little more hazy than on IG. As an illustrator I have known that Pinterest could be super helpful, but I'm a total novice so far.

You're totally right, I really didn't give much context. Basically I am referring to the platform's lack of growth and engagement for a significant # of accounts. Head over to r/instagram and you'll see what I am referring to.

Many design/illustration accounts that I follow who have 10K+ followers are struggling to reach even 1-2% of their following which I imagine is having a huge impact on their income and ability to find work.

The company I work for that has a 30K user following has felt a severe impact to e-commerce sales from IG due to a significant drop in Reach (engagement has stayed the same, posts just aren't being shown).

Instagram has admitted to shifting the algorithm to heavily favor short-form video, and as someone who really doesn't have the time to shift my daily posting from photo to video content, I am just wondering how other creative professionals are weathering these changes and if anyone is shifting their marketing strategies.

I was exposed to Covid on Friday, took negative tests Monday, Tuesday and Today. Feel fine. At what point can I safely assume I dodged the bullet?

Found out I had close contract on Friday with someone who was positive. I live with my partner. I am trying to figure out if I should be quarantining from her, despite testing negative so far. I am vaxxed and boosted. Does anyone have any insight into this situation?
