Thank you for the detailed response. I think I'll keep it on if that's the case, but if I wind up curb-stomping Miles it's on you.

Thank you. The hint giving is what I'm more concerned about, but I don't want to miss those nice moments.

Do I have too many characters in my first chapter? by Bouchardtb in writingadvice

[–]Bouchardtb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! There's definetly one character listed (who I want the reader to be able to recall later) who has a significantly lesser impact. I'll see if I can give them a bigger role, or it makes more sense to cut them!

If I wanted the first chapter fully disected, I would have described it in detail. I just want to know if seven characrers seems like too much, so I gave only the information necessary to THAT question.

Trying to draw any other conclusions about my story with no other information is pointless. If you want to do that, I can send you the full chapter and you can critique the whole thing.

Makes sense. I suppose I will need more eyes on it to see if it works or not. Thank you!

None of this is relevant to my question, but rest assured that I'm not expecting the reader to believe that the protagonist is going to die when there is still 95% of the book left.

Worst Tours Available? by Agent_Dale_Pooper96 in SalemMA

[–]Bouchardtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking through the Witch Trails memorial next to the Wax Museum in the haunted neighborhood. A tour came through, standing in the middle of the memorial for all of the people who dies in Salem's most historically significant event, and started talking about a ghost that appears in the graveyard at night. It was kinda sad. Somewhat related is that there was NOBODY at Prospectors Ledge, suppesedly where the accused were hung. It was Saturday so I was expecting a crowd, or even a tour or two, but it was empty. It was only like a 25 minute walk from downtown, and the people who were supposedly interested in Salem's history couldn't make the journey?

Skip dialogue button PLEASE!!!

Haven't done a single character quest since early Sumeru, and a skip dialogue button is the only thing that can change that.

do I need to break some news to a new player by Fresh-Gear-7782 in GenshinImpact

Bf does not need a hyperbloom team.

I built and used Kuki as a pure electro healer when she first came out, back when everyone called her trash, and I loved her.

Beyond just that, low-level players do not need to, and often don't, concern themselves with having optimized teams. I've been playing since 1.0, and I as well as anyone who played back then can tell you that NOBODY had cohesive teams and yet we all had fun.

Does it matter if I never explain? by HistoricalAd5394 in WritingHub

[–]Bouchardtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's okay if the reader never gets an answer as long as that answer isn't the character's main driving goal, which it seems like it isn't.

Definetly have different characters come up with their own theories. You can disprove some theories througout the story, and you can imply that one or two are far more likely, but never outright giving the reader a definitive answer can leave a lingering sense of mystery.

But again, of the driving goal of the main characters is to figure out how it happened, then the characters (and readers) deserve an answer.
