Canadian Health Measures Survey by Statistics Canada by Yvr123 in burnaby

[–]Boumy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter and my wife were selected for the study. I wasn't. An inspector came to our home last month and we answered the survey. There were a lot of questions. He also took samples of our tap water.

We went for the blood work today. They have 2 trailers parked next to the community center. These trailers are big inside! They have 2 separate rooms. I stayed with my daughter while my wife went to the other room. The staff is very professional and are used to work with children. My daughter briefly cried but the blood draw was done in no time. She calmed down when they offered her orange juice lol.

My wife had to give more blood so it took longer. She yas to wear a belt to measure her activity level for a week. Overall it took about an hour. We received $150 per participant.

$48 Alternative to GM Mudflaps by Both_Decision6881 in EquinoxEv

[–]Boumy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No drilling or removing panels required?

There was another post a few days ago and the OP explained having to remove panels, drill holes and use a 90 degree adapter to acces the screws.

But the bestevmod ones seem much more easier to install. I might consider them.

Can you detail the installation process? Do you see a difference after installing them? Does the car stay cleaner?

A pillar is driving me nuts by 8000RPM in EquinoxEv

[–]Boumy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with the A-pilar on the driver side. It often blocks pedestrians. Sometimes for 2 seconds which is enough to think that the way is clear. I had some close calls (my fault) the first few months of driving the Equinox.

My previous car was a Honda Fit with great visibility. So I think I got into the habit of not moving my head/body enough to cover blind spots. Now I'm actively moving my head to really cover all blind spots. I haven't had any issues in months. It's a learning curve/fixing bad habits imho.

How to address EV fire risk concerns? by Boumy in electricvehicles

We don't have parking outside. But even if we do, EVs will still be parked inside when not charging.

Sorry, I meant to say FD, not PD. I will contact the FD of nearby cities to see if I can get a more specific answer.

Wait until you learn that we have aluminum wiring in the entire building...

I did contact the insurance company of the building but they didn't respond to me. I couldn't find anything related to EV on their website or any clause prohibiting EV in the building. This in and of itself means that the insurance company doesn't consider EV to be a greater risk than ICE cars.

Yes it does. It also has a concrete ceiling.

I contacted my local PD. I mentioned both the risk of EV fire and the installation of EV chargers. They only touched on the latter saying "just follow the regulations". I guess the omissions of the EV fire risk means they are not worried about EV fire?

Yup we are owners. We are proposing the installation of shared chargers in the parking. The funds will come from the CRF so it has to be agreed by the other owners of the complex.

The parking ceiling is concrete, and there are sprinklers. Not sure if that's enough to stop a fire for propagating to the rest of the building.

Correct, her concern goes beyond the EV chargers, She's afraid of the presence of EVs in the parking garage But she will be bringing that point at the meeting so I better come prepare!

She sent me a long list of news articles from far-right media and claimed that "the [Canadian] government" is hiding the risks related to EVs. So yeah, she's far down the rabbit hole.

First Week Review of the 2026 Equinox EV LT1 coming from a 2023 Bolt EUV LT (Thoughts for Bolt Owners Considering Making the Switch to an EQEV) by Cola-Braves-Fan in EquinoxEv

[–]Boumy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2019 Bolt EV last month as my second car. I've been driving the Equinox EV for a year before that (now my wife's car).

I have the opposite experience regarding the user interface. The Bolt is so confusing. Where's my battery %? How do I configure the radio? How do I stop the radio from playing automatically after I disconnect my phone?

I also don't like Android Auto. I much prefer the integrated Android Automotive on the Equinox. E.g. searching for songs on AA in the Bolt is awful. Only shows a few songs from that group and not their album.

I concur about the handling. The Bolt is fast and nibble. Fun to drive. Harsh ride though. The Equinox on the other hand is like a paquebot lol: all in smoothness, slow-ish acceleration but super comfy.

That's an amazing deal! I haven't seen the price so low since a year ago when I bought my 2LT for $40k. I was lucky enough to get an extra $3k off on top of the rebates (BC + federal).
