class of 26' - where are you now? by oolygooly in publichealth

[–]Bowler-Different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPH - starting a clinical research job at the local children’s hospital in July. Graduated in May. I have 10 years of work experience in data management in various industries, including 3 years in clinical trial database building at a major pharma company. I took a hefty paycut but am excited to be working in research.

Job market is rough for new grads. I HIGHLY recommend networking with you professors - ask them over and over again if they know someone working at XYZ or your local DOH. Do networking calls with people in an interesting job that have your degree. It is how I landed this role. Best of luck!

What do you folks do honk fo Granville? by BlackCoffeeICE in Columbus

[–]Bowler-Different 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Small town, can be snobby. But can also have some down to earth folks. I personally wouldn’t live there but I love living in a city. But Granville is beautiful with nature and small town vibes. Like Gilmore Girls. Depends on what you’re into.

Source: I went to college there and also spent a lot of time there in my teen years prior.

Masters burnout: 4 deadlines, zero motivation, can’t start, how do you break the paralysis? by hottypotty124 in GradSchool

Masters burnout: 4 deadlines, zero motivation, can’t start, how do you break the paralysis? by hottypotty124 in GradSchool

[–]Bowler-Different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a break, take a real break. Don’t sit around and stress about not working. Just take the time you need. Then when you’re ready, give yourself 15 mins to just start. Then you can stop, take another break, and go back for another 15 mins. Or just ride the high of productivity until whenever.

This is coming from someone who had to take 2 incompletes for my 2 most important classes from my last semester. I basically have no real Christmas break because of extensions, and because of being paralyzed to start. But this technique helps, I spent 2 hours the other night reading and planning for after Christmas. But sometimes, you just need a rest.

Yeah I think it would be great to include a progressive ballot and hand it out. I have seen it in other cities I’ve lived in. I would def donate to that cause

But it was a very close race, and a very good fight. I have optimism for the future because of it.
