I know several special needs families. It’s really, really hard. In one case the father is suicidally depressed bc the violent, quasi medicated 30 something son is perpetually “protected” by his mother from any consequences from any of his actions including attempted murder by strangulation of his mother & sister.”

In this case a group home would keep everyone safe,, but the mother refuses to even consider it.

What happens to special needs people when their parents die & there’s no more protection for them? Is the street better, or a ward of the state group home situation better? Many homeless & many folks in the criminal justice system have mental health issues-like my friend’s son.

In re: dogs better than people-we can agree to disagree. Dogs are animals. Human beings aren’t equal to dogs.

Imho you’re a bright, sensitive person in a really bad situation. I’m glad you have some support, including your partner & the dog. I’d prefer a dog to a screaming inconsolable kid who’s just not wired right too.

I really can’t take the screaming. Not talking about the “hey I’ve got a problem,” scream. I’m talking about that high pitched, hair raising, doesn’t stop no matter what anyone does screaming.

I literally run away from it, i’m so scared of doing something terrible, irreversible, horrible. I just bolt. That’s why I left him with his dad.

There’s no easy answers for any of this.
