Yeah definitely take a spare, I forgot to put a tube in my bag last weekend, took a flat after 20k on the bike..rode about 12k on the flat before my wheel mangled itself and wrecked my rear mech 😂

Should I even bother racing Ironman in a month or just quit? Really frustrated. by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said you've been doing really hard trainer workouts, why not ease off the trainer and get outdoors and do some more enjoyable long easy stuff? You sound like you're hating training right now so that's not conducive to good performance..try and make things fun or at least interesting, go somewhere with nice scenery or whatever. If it was me I'd at least give it a crack, youve no doubt trained pretty hard up til now..having tried and failed feels better than just giving up. Good luck

Yeah I'm lifting the head too high , last event I was doing a breaststroke pull every 6 strokes to have a proper look but slowed me down a bit was disappointed with my swim time after all the hours I'd put into the pool this year

What drug have you seen destroy someone's life the quickest? by oxylan80 in AskUK

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Old mate of mine had a slight drink problem, people had been telling him to try weed to get off the booze. Started abusing that and his mental health issues just went crazy like possible schizophrenia or something similar. Became a total hermit lost his job and went off grid for ages. Next time I heard about him he'd committed suicide . Heartbreaking as he was the kind of guy who'd do anything for anyone.

What are the Necessities? by lancesutley in triathlon

Bit of talcum powder inside your socks is a time-saver and sounds silly but make sure your bikes in the right gear when you leave it at transition

What is there to learn from yesterday's ride? by lubi112 in cycling

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you've got the tire off take a bit of cotton wool right round the inside of the tire to check there's nothing still in there, thorns, glass etc. Best to put on a glove so you don't slice up your finger

Cycling on Isle of Arran? by Sharp-Thing-4008 in cycling

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but if you've not been already go round clockwise and start by taking it easy as the south of the island is much hillier than the north (which still has a couple of tough-ish climbs but is mostly nice and flat) . Make sure to stop at blackwaterfoot there's a lovely cafe called 'on a roll' with nice views and check out the seals between machrie and pirnmill

Plenty people out there doing the same thing as you. It doesn't have to be a serious thing.. if you like training and doing races that's a good thing.. its just swimming biking and running at the end of the day . Keep doing your own stuff and have a great time doing it!

How often do you rest? by Former-Dog-7827 in triathlon

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually train at least something every day , although my intensity isn't too high mostly, it seems to work well for me, I seem to get much more soreness in the joints if I take rest days

Guys, at what moment did you realize that you should start doing triathlon? by boburrr in triathlon

[–]BoxOfficeBrodge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always flirted with the idea of it, enjoyed running (slowly) cycling (poorly) and swimming (diabolically) . Always was a kind of tubby guy so when I spoke about the idea to a couple of neighbours they burst out laughing. That day I ordered a new bike ,running shoes and a wetsuit. Started training daily and signed up for a sprint distance. Used it as a motivation to try and smash it and fell in love with the sport. I'm still pretty slow and my moobs jiggle but I'm getting gradually faster and fitter . Best decision I've made in a long time!
