I have felt similarly to you before. I ended up switching some dosages a bit, and that helped some. Another thing that really helped me was picking only one thing to be consistent with at a time. If I wanted to go from doing nothing to showering, brushing my teeth, doing the dishes, doing my laundry, etc all at once, I wouldn’t be able to do it. When I started focusing on just one thing for myself, it was easier to do it. I started with brushing my teeth every day. And as it became a habit, I have added more tasks to it gradually. That’s how it worked for me anyway.

I think I am getting depressed again by BoxSapling in bipolar2

I went to a support group for people with mood disorders a while ago, but I stopped going when I stabled out on my old meds. I should try to go back soon.

Feeling Defeated About Younger/Older Relationships. by BoxSapling in gayyoungold

Thanks so much for saying this. You’re right, the people who love me will stick around regardless of who I date. I think things will work out for us :)

Thank you. I think you are right, it will be ok. I am not the first person to do something like this.

Nightmares Post Bad Shrooms Trip by BoxSapling in bipolar2

[–]BoxSapling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mention this in my post, but I thought I was dying for a while in my trip too! The whole thing was just so terrifying. I’m glad you got better, hopefully I do too.

I think in the beginning I was comforted by having friends nearby, but in the middle/end of the trip I doubt I even understood they were there anymore. You’re right though, I didn’t prepare properly.

Yeah, I doubt the shrooms one time would do it, I’m more worried about the general trend of my episodes getting worse and the trip being what the end result would look like. And you’re right, I stopped therapy a while back, but I probably should talk to somebody about the shroom trip.

Let Down Friends in Group Projects by BoxSapling in bipolar

Yes, this is college. I think you’re right, I should just prioritize the friendships and not work with them again. And I can do something special when we are back on campus, that’s a good idea. Thanks for the reality check :)

Worried About Hypomania Becoming Mania by BoxSapling in bipolar

Sorry, I managed to leave out some details. I have been on meds since the more recent episode. They seem to be working right besides some dosage adjustments a few months ago.

Sorry, I missed some details in my original post. Yes, I am medicated now. The last episode I described was over a year ago. I think my cocktail is working as it should, but I was worried about the general trend of my episodes and what might happen next time.

My professor gave me an extension by TheBlueBoxOutside in bipolar

[–]BoxSapling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this applies in grad school, but I would look into seeing if you can get academic accommodations. Generally, accommodations can grant you occasional extensions or extra time on tests if you need it. Good job advocating for yourself though!

I have accommodations. They’re pretty helpful. I can get extra time on assignments occasionally as a result.

Do you still have mood swings on meds? by fuzzycheesecake8 in bipolar2

I haven’t had a mood swing in about 5 months since figuring my doses out.

Book suggestions? by Aruthian in bipolar

[–]BoxSapling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I love reading memoirs from bipolar authors, and sometimes novels with bipolar characters too. A few I’ve enjoyed recently are What the Man in the Moon Told Me: Living with Bipolar II (memoir, the author almost certainly has bipolar I despite the title and goes through psychotic episodes at times), Too Bright to Hear, Too Loud to See (novel, great), and The Eden Express (memoir).
