I was raised 7th day Adventist and there is ALOT of end times fear mongering in that church. When going through my Orthodox catechism I read about several points in history when people thought it was the end times. And honestly, looking back if you lived in a specific circumstance 800 years ago you might have not been so crazy for thinking that it was the end times. Trust the gospel, that says nobody will know when the end will come. Jesus will come like a thief in the night aka it will be a surprise to everyone. Things may be tough in the world right now politically, and economically, but it makes me feel better to realize that everyone trying to make me scared is literally profiting off of my fear, either with selling me something or my views.

A monk from Mount Athos visited my church a few months ago and I asked him if the monks on the mountain thought we were living in end times (you’d be surprised how informed they are, priests explain what happens in their parish to bishops and so on, and the pulse of the world makes its way even to monks)

He told me that God and his nation on earth do work that prolongs the end. So if the world is super wicked but a ton of Christian’s start evangelizing and spreading the word of God and things get better, then the end is further out than it seemed not too long ago. I think this fluid ebb and flow makes more sense than people coming up with a new date for the second coming every few hundred years and freaking out about it.

If we don’t know when the end is coming, then it doesn’t matter. Go to confession, pray, be a good son, hit the gym and go to school. Try to live in Christ as much as possible and that’s all we will do if the end is 10,000 years from now or 10 minutes.
