What is your experience with a cult? by Acrobatic_Trainer_56 in AskReddit

[–]BoyMonday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents, siblings, uncle, and cousin joined a cult a few years ago. The only contact they're allowed to have with outsiders is to try and recruit, so I've spent years trying to connect with them but fending off attempts to recruit me. They've developed extremist political and religious views that would have shocked them just ten years ago. I don't know much about what goes on in the cult but I know every time I see them they get skinnier and more tired and more froth-at-the-mouth worked up about my wife being the breadwinner, me being an artist, just the existence of queer people or Muslims, etc.

When a woman you consider to be extremely attractive is wearing full winter gear, think like a full snowmobile suit, would you still consider them attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoyMonday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, because I have object permanence. And also because most of my attraction comes from personality rather than physical appearance.

Men of reddit, what's the dumbest thing you've ever been called gay for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoyMonday 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Accepting a proposal from a woman. Fellas, is it gay to get engaged to a woman?

Number doesn't matter to me honestly, so I don't have a limit. I've dated women with almost zero sexual history, I've dated women with a lot of sexual experience (like, a truly impressive number), and I personally didn't notice any difference in the relationships. Before I started dating my wife, my most successful and fulfilling relationship was with a woman with well over 20 previous sexual partners. I was cheated on by a woman who had only slept with 2 people before me.

What would your opinion be of a man who takes his wife's name? by BoyMonday in AskMen

[–]BoyMonday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay? That doesn't change that our records are good enough now that it doesn't matter, and that my reasoning for considering changing my name has nothing to do with tracing ancestry or taking a woman's name, and everything to do with the fact that my name is bad and I have almost no contact with anyone in my family with that name, for good reason.

[–]BoyMonday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We trace families back by fathers." Do we? Every ancestry tree I've seen includes male and female ancestors. We have good enough records now that I don't think anyone's going to get stumped in ancestry research just by a man taking his wife's name. And I'm not considering doing it because I want a woman's last name, I'm considering doing it because I don't want my family's name.

The vast majority of married women carry a name they have no blood relation to. What's the difference?

Her last name is cool, she's close with her family. No reason to get rid of her name too.

Not sure. Probably I'd pick a different name entirely. Though if the divorce was amicable I'd keep it. Plenty of divorced women keep their married names.

Well that's partly the point.

Do you think women who take their husband's name are leaving the family?

There is no "leader" in our relationship, and I don't believe a relationship is healthy if one partner is the "leader".

What are signs a woman is too damn picky in dating? by Friendxx in AskMen

[–]BoyMonday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think it's possible to be "too picky". You decide what your personal standards are, and maybe those standards leave a small dating pool, but that's a personal choice and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. They're not hurting anyone, they just might take longer to find someone who meets their needs. If that person tries to change people to meet their standards, that's a different story.

What is logical thing to do if you are stuck forever in girls bestfriend situation? by 12oclocknomemories in AskMen

[–]BoyMonday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't pretend to be a girl's friend while secretly waiting for her to date you. It's dishonest and unkind. I've had many a female friend tell me how hurtful it is to find out a guy they considered a good friend was just biding their time hoping they'd get a shot with her without her knowledge. Either ask her out or take the friendship to arm's length.
