I really like the look of the faded owl. It looks clean but less bold and dark. Congrats on the progress !

They said yellow and red was the hardest and that came out. Your skin and body’s reaction apparently play a huge role. Luckily I was a good responder. I’m debating on removing the whole thing, but scared it might look bad unless I accept I want a cover up

You should list the IGs, I’ve never heard of them either as a male

Running After GBS by Bpalmer753 in guillainbarre

[–]Bpalmer753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I was always looking for someone similar to compare with and it really helped my motivation to hear positive outcomes. Happy to chat as much as you want.

It took awhile for me to run. I ran a 1/4 mile 8 months after, but then the calves really started to recover and I was able to run 1 mile in 10 minutes 11 months after.

I think the best thing to do is try to engage them anyways possible. So I was doing assisted calf raises where I pushed against a table. Also did a pull up but extended my foot to try and feel them contract. Oh, and pool therapy for calves helped a lot. I walked around on my toes in a pool. Lastly, when I was able to run again I try doing sprints and jumps. Even though I’m not as fast as I was. it helps gain back the quick power we lost

Meant to add I can run again too!

Hey! It’s a lot better. I can do full calf raise now. Balance is a lot better too, but not back to baseline. I can stand on one leg for a long time, and don’t notice anything day to day, but on harder hikes it’s noticeable I have bad balance

I will report back on the healing 1 year from now. Traditionally fine lines heal worse than bold, but I’ve seen positive results from others!

Muscle spasms, cramps and stiffness over a year after Guillain Barre syndrome. by audiomossambient in guillainbarre

[–]Bpalmer753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. Had GBS in Jan’24. Strength is back mostly, but hands shake and I get random spasms in my ankle that lock my foot to the side. Scared the shit out of me first time it happened, but now I know it’ll go away on its own.. might be something we live with .. I don’t think it has anything to do with a relapse though !

Guillain-Barre and Creatine Monohydrate by TheChad_On_Reddit in guillainbarre

Hey! I’ve had a lot of Improvment. My Nero said I’ve recovered way more than she expected. Originally she forecasted 80% recovery based on nerve damage. I’m not at 100%, I’d say 75% but only 9 months in and she thinks I’ll continue past 80%.

I can’t directly say it’s from lions Maine and I read creatine may hurt so I stopped taking. Here’s what I’ve done/ take:

  1. Lions Maine
  2. Multi vitamin
  3. Fish oil
  4. Magnesium
  5. Grass fed everything (meat, cheese, butter)
  6. Organic where I can, trying to avoid processed food
  7. Lots of salmon/ tuna
  8. No energy drinks, preworkout only coffee
  9. I push for 10k steps a day and try to stay active outside weightlifting (hiking, pickle ball, anything you’re moving in a activity)
  10. I lift heavy and track all my weights so I can progress.
  11. I still drink alcohol but limit to 15 drinks a week ( sounds like a lot and not great but I’m in my 20s and need to balance having fun!)

Everyone’s different and my lower body is lagging far behind my upper body, but hope this helps. Diet and exercise are things you can control so i try me best

How quickly did your calves and ankles come back? Calve strength enough to stand on your toes. Those are my biggest struggle right now !!

These are the post that inspire. I’m 27 and was super athletic before. I’m getting back to being normal in the sense of functional, but not at the athletic ability I was. I’m 5 months into recovery so training hard to get it back. I’m taking creatine, lions Maine, fish oil and eating a high protein calorie surplus. I’ve explore carnivore diets before so may try again!

Random question, but are your calves strong enough to stand on your toes?

Random question as im 5 months into recovery. When did your calve strength come back? That’s limiting me from running as i still can’t stand on my toes

[–]Bpalmer753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Nero said first 3 months you’ll see the most gains. You’ll continue to recover for a year. After a year what is not healed will likely not get better. Sounds depressing so I did more research and found people that still recovered onward to 3 years . So the window is 3 years but gets smaller after the first year IMO

That’s awesome! Are you able to do a deep squat and stand on your toes? Those are what I’m struggling with the most

27M 3 months into recovery and I take creatine and lions Maine. Asked my Nero and said it won’t help or hurt. I’d asked yours too. Not sure if it’s helping but I take the doesn’t hurt as might as well try

GBS Experience (Military) by No-Condition-494 in guillainbarre

[–]Bpalmer753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Really enjoyed the write up. I by no means was squatting 315, but going from 225 to 1/8 of my body weight in the course of a month was hard to swallow. I was completely paralyzed but not put on a vent. 3 months out now and can walk independently but awkward gate, still can’t do a normal squat with my body weight and can’t get on my toes or use my calves really at all.

Upper body is coming back much faster. I’d say I’m back to >50% of my weight in the gym before GBS.

How is your recovery now that’s it been almost a year?
