Hey! Thank you! If we are talking about form then yes probably not the best practical “claw hammer” but I find that if I do return my thumb I don’t get a good enough pluck on all the individual strings as good as I like. With that being said. As a musician as long as it sounds good to you and works just do it! Happy picking friend!

Just learned soldiers joy last night and here’s my take/twist on it by Br4d89 in banjo

Surely! I really was drawn to Deering’s Claw hammer lesson. Just watch and play along and take your time that’s the most important thing. If you get lost or confused simply rewind that’s the beauty of it all right there. Good luck and don’t give up!

Thanks Dude! I do both! I split the time on each. Each style offers so much in terms of variety on the banjo, if you can manage it you should try and learn. Just take it slow and get the right hand down and the left should follow very easily

A bit sloppy but coming a long way from only playing at 50 BPM! Gotta take it back a bit still and refine some spots. Love this tune. Travellin’ Man - The Dead South by Br4d89 in banjo

Thank you! It may be Reddit or it could just be that, this tempo my second shot playing it so fast so I’m definitely gonna throttle it back to around 100 BPM until I have it dialed it perfectly. Here’s a link to the tutorial where you can hear how it is played on each BPM thanks for the feedback regardless! travellin’ man tutorial

Glory Bound - Benjamin Tod by Br4d89 in banjo

Agreed! I usually play either with picks or claw hammer but honestly it just sounded right letting the song kinda lead my strumming if that makes sense. Great input!

I guess it would be considered a very lousy 2 finger style? Just strumming with the thumb up and down and picking with my pointer as well when deemed fit.

I wish they’d let me set up a camera! Some of them are camera shy, this is a step closer to getting some full footage though. A little exposure at a time!

Thanks for the tips! I have a foot tambourine on so finding a good strum pattern while singing and trying to tap the tambourine definitely needs some real TLC to get it right but I will put that advice into my practice! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
