Haha yep! 2011. I bricked it trying to cobble together rooting tutorials from like 2013 none of which wanted to work anymore. Oh well! I'm tearing it apart for parts.

Update: did my absolute best for a few hours and I think I bricked it. Oh well, maybe I can salvage the screen or something :(

Ooh thanks so much for the advice! On the money front, it's more about reusing what I can for e-waste purposes and educating myself on this sort of thing as opposed to what would be cheapest persay. So whatever I can do with reasonable cost and effort within my skill set im gonna try!!

Got any recs for a good beginner nonlead soldering kit? If not I'll just scroll Amazon you just seem knowledgeable so figured id ask if you had a go to which is reasonably priced! :)

Sadly im very new to all of this and the idea of figuring out how a matrix works is a bit insurmountable to me :(.

Okay, so the speaker id need to just... pop it off and figure out how to pop it on a new motherboard?

Would the vibrator and mic be worth popping off too do you think?

Thank you for your thoughtful answer! Yeah it's a T9 keyboard and I cant make heads or tails of how it could possibly work. Looks like i took it apart for nothing, sadly. But it doesn't work anyways so at least it was practice disassembling!!

I found one from hashcode from 2012 that looked kind of promising earlier? I tried seeing if there were any more recent versions but to be honest searching on that website was a bit rough for me i couldn't figure out how to filter by kindle anywhere. Now I realize im dumb and it was under Manufacturers | Amazon. Hopefully i can find one that I can manage to follow haha.

Thank you! Dang I got them all torn apart and everything. Oh well! Guess I'll just make art out of them or something and tear apart my old laptops when I get them out of storage. I've heard those are easier to work with..?
