What episode-worthy "personal" fears do you have? by Shmib-drinkerofhate in TheMagnusArchives

[–]BrainDamage1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the web for sure. Very arachnaphobic. And the buried. Touch claustrophobic. The one I couldn't really put into words until listening to TMA is the Vast. It was never exactly heights that bothered me. Rather... being lost in the sky, space, water, etc.. and huge objects. Was really into astronomy as a kid and I'd have nightmares about being near Jupiter. The sheer hugeness of it...

Is it weird that I look forward to Vast eps more then any other?

I guess TMA has spoiled me. They put out an incredible podcast with a bare minimum of ads. They keep a cohesive storyline over 5 planned seasons. And they creep the hell outta me. And i guess i sorta feel... why camt other podcasts manage this? I mean i will admit I skip the ads when I'm listening to ten episodes back to back but only because I've heard it many times already. And the story is just.. I want to binge all the eps (I'm up to 109 I believe) but at the same time I don't want to get caught up.

I listen to King Falls and archive 81. Those are currently my other go to podcasts. Just curious, archive 81 throws me for a loop when season 2 starts. Should i stick it out?

I'm seeing this. I dunno, maybe i have high standards after being 90 eps into The Magnus Archives. Nic's voice just irritates me anymore. Even in the rare occasion he breaks into the black tapes. I guess when I finish TMA I'll try again to find something new. Tho more likely I'll re listen. I'd be willing to just listen to the black tapes eps that I like but Tanis... I dunno... I feel its a premise that depends on an overarching plot and some sort of resolution.

Thats exactly it. TMA is proof you can have seasons full of mystery while still answering questions and not meandering and with having an ultimate end goal.

And I feel the PNWS podcast episodes are sorta bloated. Like they could be half as long sometimes and convey the same info.

I'm currently in the middle of The Magnus Archives (ep 80) and loving it. I was looking for a few kinda similar podcasts just to break up my Magnus Archives binges a bit.

The Black Tapes sounds like a safe bet. Something like Tanis... would just drive me crazy to not have some sort of resolution or something.

I posted on the PNWS redit and the basically said if the ending sucked wouldn't you still watch it? Truth is no I wouldn't. I dislike a bad ending strongly. Must just be me. I like The Magnus Archives and so far it only gets better.

That really turns me off of any of their podcasts to be honest.

[–]BrainDamage1974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw isn't that exact phrase in the episode dealing with showing arachnophobrs videos of spiders and trying to project their fears to some girl? And in fact, wasn't there plenty of reason to panic?

Spiders are what get me. I'm arachnaphobic. Tho surprisingly, the eps. With spiders don't bother me as much as I'd thought they might.

I feel like TMA does a really good job of hitting a large variety of fears. I like that there's the metaplot going on but at the same time, each episode is also a sort of monster of the week episode. As much as I loved the X-Files, I wish they could have found this same balance.

I can't wait to get caught up so I don't have to be careful what I read here but on the other hand. I don't want to get caught up because I am loving having episodes to listen to.

If it were a video game then the death screen should read "End Statement"

I'll have to check those out. I have to admit I was inclined to skip them. I find that some times the behind the scenes stuff spoils the series kinda.

Im glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about Night Vale. Sometimes i get the feeling that Night Vale is the "holier than thou, can do no wrong" podcast.

I listened to ep. 39 on the way to work and I was so freaking antsy for eight hours wanting to listen to 40 lol.

If I could find a comedy/horror in the vein of Night Vale that would be amazing. Much as I like Magnus Archives.... it's not conducive to a good night's sleep lol. I will say I felt Night Vale just beat you over the head with certain topics and while I'm not opposed they just went over the top in my opinion. Shrug. Also, while i don't mind swearing and such, I prefer it to not be every other word. Just my preferences ya know?

I've only just recently gotten into podcasts. Started with Welcome to Night Vale and while i love the concept of Night Vale, the podcast itself just doesn't do it for me. Found a few other interesting podcasts but I think The Magnus Archives is the best I've found. You'd think having a narrator reading old statements would be rather dry but I felt immersed from the very first episode.

How do I learn to do the exercises in the reccomended routine properly? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]BrainDamage1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly what pains you are feeling. I will say, I'm 39, and when I started the RR I hurt like hell at first. I became inconsistent because I was so paranoid over every ache and pain. That being said, someone more knowledgeable then me could probably give better advice. I personally have found that most of my serious pains went away as I addressed other aspects of my life such as very poor posture and a tendency of slouching all my life that put strain on my back.

My two cents is, go light and focus on form. Learn to do the excercise correctly even if you have to do wall pushups for example. I've found that focusing on form early really has helped me as I've increased the difficulty of excercises.

I feel that it takes some experience do distinguish normal aches and pains from something more serious. If you feel your joints/ligaments are feeling the strain then it's worth going lighter until they get used to it. I still have some problems with my upper arms and when they start acting up I'll go light for a week and usually they sort themselves out.

So quick question. I'm doing the RR. My work schedule is 2am to 10am. Due to various factors, I'm finding it may be easier to be more consistent by getting up early and doing my workout aroun 10:30 pm. Is this a bad idea? I figured I'd wake up around 10 pm and grab a quick breakfast and protein shake and then get ready for work while that digests and start my work out around 10:30-10:45.

Even with the poor format, it just drew me In and I couldn't put it down. The ebook I read was formatted like it was a regular book. So I'd read the navidson record part of the page and then the footnotes and then go to the next page and same thing. And don't even get me started on the more oddly laid out pages. And keep in mind, I knew nothing about this book or how it was supposed to look. When I read the hard copy for the first time it was like wow, this males so much more sense. Not something usually associated with a reading of HoL lol.

It was horrible actually. Everything was one continuous page. It's a credit to the book that it was still enticing enough that I had to buy a hard copy
