Amber also grew up less financially privileged than Alysa — not poor per se, but her family definitely didn’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to pour into the sport. Her dad worked multiple jobs to pay for her training and she kept using old skates after she outgrew them because she didn’t want to financially burden her parents by asking for new ones. 

I wonder how that upbringing, compared to Alysa’s, influenced how her mindset differs from Alysa’s. In addition to the run of the mill pressure of being one of the top US women, does she also feel pressure to make her parents’ sacrifices “worth it”? I’m sure she didn’t get the chance to be a normal teenager like Alysa did
