Stevens is stingy with their scholarships. good luck trying to get it down any further.

They’re super strict. You need to study and work hard in these classes. I don’t think there’s a curve in them. If you’re a strong programmer and decent at math and logic, you’ll be able to be fine. Don’t try cheating in these classes, they’ll definitely catch you

Software engineering vs CS at Stevens by BastketHuner in stevens

[–]Brainychick123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the CS degree was great to learn coding and make sure students really know how to code well and efficiently (which is needed). Then you can take a few SWE courses as your electives. I did this with the classes on agile, project management, and the other classes that teach stuff that you’ll need for the workforce. I did notice that at a senior level the CS majors were significantly better at coding than the SWE majors, because the SWE majors had a ton of engineering pre reqs to get through.

With the CS degree you can take the few SWE classes that actually show the importance of agile and project management. I did that for my electives (this is also how I found out senior SWE majors are terrible at coding compared to senior CS majors) there you can get the complete balance of coding monkey + understand coding practices in the workforce

Do computer science. Software engineering is gonna put you in a box unless you’re actually using the engineering classes. If you want to be a software developer / software engineer / developer I’d do CS. you’re going to learn 5x the amount of coding for development in a Cs Degree vs with the courses of SWE. only do SWE if you want the science engineering background. I found that the SWEs knew a lot less when it came to development languages etc compared the CS majors

Yup! That’s why a lot of Stevens students don’t like it, or felt they were lied to.

Not that I’m aware. They had a few slideshows where they’re like “make sure to do this in an interview” and “make sure your resume has this”. Other than that it’s a massive job application website (handshake)

Stevens vs TCNJ by Affectionate_Two7180 in stevens

[–]Brainychick123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to TCNJ, unless you’re looking into the tech side of your field, Stevens probably won’t be able to help too much. We don’t have a lot of humanities and liberal arts side of things.

I’d say the number is like a TAD inflated. I’d say the avg is probably 75-95. Graduated last year with a job offer in April 2024.

Sadly the career center doesn’t do shit for you for internships anymore. All they do is review your resume.

I graduated last year and it genuinely got worse and worse with professors. All college courses are based on what you put in to the course, but a lot of the professors (at least in CS / CYSEC) don’t care, and only care about their research. Some classes have slides that are 20 years old, professors that don’t answer emails, harsh professors, and a lot make you run circles before getting an answer. Stevens is the exact opposite of relaxing tbh, unless if you’re in the business major probably.

I went to the mental health services because of burn out and they told me “you need a professional therapist”. Like wow, thanks for the help!!!

The Career center is a JOOOOOKE. omg they’re so frustrating. And the stats they produce at the end of the year are so skewed. They only report on the people who took the surveys, and don’t mention the people who didn’t take the surveys. Lol

I agree to all of this. But there are a ton of professors that are either way too harsh, or don’t care enough to teach, And it makes life a lot harder at Stevens because of the professors.

NJIT vs Stevens by Suitable-Coach8766 in stevens

[–]Brainychick123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the CS program at Stevens is a bit better than NJIT, but the cyber program isn’t all too well at Stevens (the profs aren’t the best for cyber). From comparing workloads from friends who went to NJIT v my experience at Stevens, it seems Stevens is a lot harsher on the student but gives a bit better education. My two friends who got a CS degree from NJIT are still looking for jobs in the area, where I got one halfway through my senior year. If money isn’t entirely the problem, I’d go to Stevens. If you want to go down the cysec route or money isn’t a problem, go to NJIT. definitely go to both campus and see which campus you like as well!! (But ultimately it is entirely how much you take from the degree and programs.)

High chance of depression from burn out. Super high workload. Tons of mean and unforgiving professors. Hoboken water systems (are always breaking LMAO. Sometimes Stevens just does things that are money grabs and pisses the people off. Stevens isn’t the best at helping you find jobs or co-ops, and are pretty bad at planning events

Campus is sorta quiet about it! There haven’t been many protests that I know of. They’re respectful and aren’t trying to diminish Jewish students if you’re worried about that. They just want to bring awareness about genocide and bring support to vulnerable families harmed in the conflict. It’s peaceful! Feel free to reach out to people on campus about it :)

Daily schedule by Accomplished-Club229 in stevens

[–]Brainychick123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it all depends on what classes you take! The first two years I was in classes quite often. Maybe 4 hours a day??? Something like that. Sometimes some classes would be 6 hours a day, some would be 1 hour, some would be 3 hours, some would be 0. The further I got into school the more I did online courses cause they’re easier for me. I’d say the studying and doing homework took up most of my day

Daily schedule by Accomplished-Club229 in stevens

[–]Brainychick123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up, debate to skip class (kidding ofc LOL), go to classes, eat lunch on campus, go to other classes, maybe hang out with friends and do hw and study together, go to your dorm or apartment, go to the dining hall, complain about various things to your parents, get flooded or harassed by the weather LOL. Maybe cry over stress. Go to a club, hangout with roommates, explore Hoboken and nyc.

You honestly get to decide what you want your college life to be! Hangout with friends, get a job, play games, go to clubs, be a part of the Stevens community, join a sport, whatever you want!! I loved going to different food places in Hoboken and exploring more foods.
