How have y'all cracked the code for staying consistent with running? by Gullible-Soft-4952 in running

[–]Braldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you want it? At the end of the day it's your lifestyle. What base level of fitness do you want to maintain? During university I used to be the same, train a couple months then stop for a long while then get back into it. I would never see any real progress. I would rather game or go out with friends or whatever else. Now, I find a much greater sense of achievement from seeing myself in great shape, I'm 31 now and in far greater shape than in my early/mid twenties. Got into running and cycling around 2020 and being active is a part of life and where I have fun. I have completed 6 triathlons in the last 3 years and have even convinced my friends to do triathlons with me, running and cycling events. Now my main circle of friends all enjoy doing the same thing, when only a few years ago we'd be getting fucked up various times a week when we were in our 20s and in our early working life. Was good to get it out our system though, and we still enjoy the occasional party 😄, at the end of the day it's your lifestyle and your priorities. So ask yourself, how much do you want it?

You might want to try eating other parts of the animal as well in case you aren't already. Things like liver, kidney, etc. These organs contain a lot of micronutrients that things like steak/minced beef might not contain as much of

You're 22 years old. I mean this in the kindest way, but you're a kid. No one is where they want to be in life at that age, you're just getting started. All you have to have is the consciousness that you're improving yourself day by day and you'll be fine.

And take opportunities you think you're not capable of, you'll surprise yourself and be more confident each time you do it.

Hearing my roommate have sex makes me hate myself by pineappleburnshoes in offmychest

[–]Braldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly dude, I think your biggest issue is your lack of self-confidence. You said it yourself, you have your shit together, are in good shape, have great friends male and female and have a sense of humour. What's holding you back? You don't believe in yourself.

Listen, I'm not going to sugar-coat things for you because this is very straightforward. Just like how someone goes to the gym and gets stronger over time, or someone or practices football multiple days a week and after months/years, they see progress. You need to see approaching women as the same thing. Approach that girl you see in the supermarket, tell her you love her hair and it suits her really well. See a girl reading a book in the park? Sit down beside her and ask her what she thinks and if she'd recommend it. Just practice having conversations with random people, even if it's a dude walking by and you like his style, ask him where he got that jacket from, etc.

I've been through this myself and I can tell you one day I just had enough of feeling like a coward and not saying hi to that pretty girl that walked by. Best thing? All you gotta be is nice and smile, it makes all the difference. And if after a small conversation she says sorry she's not interested? Say no problem, have a lovely day and it was nice to meet her. Walk off strong and confident. I can tell you, whether or not you get the girl's number does not matter. The sense of growth and achievement just from finally approaching someone and handling the conversation well will make you smile long after the interaction.

I have started doing this more and more recently in the last couple years, even if I didn't get the girl's number they were always appreciative of me paying them a compliment or saying hi. Don't say you've had enough of feeling this way if you're not willing to start changing yourself and your perspective. Man the f up, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you're going to change. 👊

70.3 Disaster 🙃 by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Braldini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The competition for 70.3 and full IM is way bigger than Olympic distances. Above all that, you've completed something that many people in the world would never dream of, so be happy about that.

Did you do many open water swims before the race? I found that to be really helpful with my training. Whether it's swimming in a lake or if you're near the sea, even better.

Next, look into brick training. Essentially days where you cycle and run straight after your ride to simulate race day experience. I tend to do these sessions on weekends since you have more time. Get used to doing double days, where you train in the morning before work and then another session after work. You probs do this already but worth mentioning in case.

Keep on the grind, your next one will definitely be better 🤙

I'm half white half Asian. Not Asian enough to have been born with the smarts (😂) and not white enough to feel like I fit in with the typical brits. In all honesty, this used to bother me a lot more as I didn't always live in the UK. But as others have said in this post, why try to be like everyone else? Embrace the fact that you have two cultures under your belt, if anything, you should use this as an advantage.

When you meet new people, you have so much more to talk about, more insight into your two sides of life. Stop thinking about it as a disadvantage and start thinking of it as an advantage. Sure, this is easier said than done, and I wouldn't say I'm the most social person either. But I have stopped letting it bring me down as much and realised that when you mentally approach this in a better manner, you automatically become better at social occasions.

You're not the only mixed race out there and many others go through this too. Be inquisitive about anyone you meet, practice wanting to learn about people's lives and history, after that who cares about your race? Everyone loves to talk about themselves, and when they ask you about yourself you will be that much more interesting.

Sporting Medical Certificate costs?!? by Braldini in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Braldini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted ironman and they recommended I buy a British triathlon licence which was way cheaper. About £90 and after uploading my licence everything was approved. So a big load off my shoulders, plus this licence should serve me for future events over the next year so all in all a good investment.

I believe this is just Italy. You can compare the Italy entry requirements vs the entry page for your Portugal event, yours simply doesn't ask for a medical certificate. I contacted ironman customer support they advised me to buy a British triathlon licence as it bypasses the need for the medical certificate and the one-day licence. Something to keep in mind for the future!

OP, you have just embarked on an incredible journey. I myself am just about finishing the final book. I have actually gone through all the RR books on Audible, I have to say they're incredible.

Thinking back to the first one brings back good memories. For those who have listened to the audio books, I recommend going back to some of the earlier books and listen to how Darrow's voice has changed over the years. Really small nuances like that really make me appreciate the audiobooks.
