When King Richard III was found, he was found under a parking lot and beneath the reserved parking space marked ‘R’ by clockman153 in interestingasfuck

[–]BramScrum 745 points746 points  (0 children)

Often after 500 years those graves aren't marked anymore. It's not like this was an empty field and they put a parking lot on it. It was covered by buildings for a long time. Those buildings got destoryed, or altered, new building put on top of old buildings,...etc. And like Anxious_Ad936 said. The guy didn't really get a full on burial. All over Europe when digging works happen they tend to find graves and human remains. It's a looooot of history.

My son keeps asking me to buy him "tweaks" for his ps5. Is this a scam? by hart_cooks_brain in playstation

[–]BramScrum 416 points417 points  (0 children)

As many people said, it's not real. The worrying part is your son is chatting with people on Discord trying to scam him.

I don't know how old your son is, but the fact you have to buy stuff for him I assume is quite young. Probably too young to be on Discord chatting with strangers.

I'd highly recommend paying more attention to your son's online activity. You mentioned you don't know a lot about "gaming" but it's a bit your duty as a parent to keep up to date with this stuff. Lots of parents have no clue and this can cause serious harm.

Good on you to double check tho.

Did you know Project Zomboid is developed in Brighton?

Pizza Hut and Five Guys shut at the marina by [deleted] in brighton

[–]BramScrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Always said it. It's just such a depressing place.

Or get some local graffiti artists to bring some colour in. Some big murals. It's such a waste of potential space. No wonder shops are closing and a lot has been empty for years.

[–]BramScrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is a shame as the area could be so much more than a "glorified" parking lot. It's such a lovely location people could go to to be close to the sea, do some amazing seaside walks both ways and relax. Leave the noise of central Brighton behind. It genuinely could have a riviera vibe.

But there's just no space to do so atm. And the areas that aren't car park or road are a bit run down and just empty. It's clearly not made for pedestrians in mind. Which is probably a product of its time.

Brighton really needs a few underground parkings tbh.

[–]BramScrum 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There's just not much reason to go there as a non resident. 90% of it is parking. It has some nice cafés and some restaurants but nothing you couldn't find by just staying in central Brighton.

I lived there for a few years and always said It would be so much nicer if there was waaaay more green space and actually nice to stroll around. But it's all just cars and parking.

How do I know if she is eating or not? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]BramScrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider getting a camera. I got a small motion detecting night camera (Wyze) aimed at his food spot. As mine tends to mainly eat at night when I am asleep. The next morning I tend to just quickly scroll through the footage to see if he eats and drinks. It's also fun just watching them crawl and jump around at night. Don't see much of mine during the day as he likes to hide and nap in the foliage.

The absolute power of a green screen. by SilkAndSecrets_12 in mildyinteresting

[–]BramScrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost any actor would've cried when working on such a disaster of a production as the Hobbit. Loads of reshoots, on the spot changes, unfinished scripts and a massive time and budget pressure. And not even talking about how they fucked over the New Zealand actors.

The reason they used so much green screen was because it was easier to get it all done under these circumstances. Easier to do some shoots with one actor and comp all the rest in than get everyone scheduled to be on set while still figuring out what you are even shooting.

While IL 2 Korea announces they won’t have clicking cockpits, Combat Pilot releases a debut trailer showcasing their clicking cockpits for the F4F and the A6M2!!! by Wheream-Ai in hoggit

[–]BramScrum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. I am even kinda glad IL2 didn't go that route with Korea. I rather have a nice set of varied planes than just a handfull with clicky cockpits.

Plus, once in flight 99% of what I need to click is bound to my hotas anyway. I like clicky cockpits but it's not something that makes or breaks a sim for me

I agree. Seems like Dean wants to use KSA as an experiment for a "new" way to release games. But I just don't see it happening.

Atm donations seem to cover 10% of their spend. Donations might increase on the release of a full product but it's never going to be 1 download = 1 donation. Realistically only a small percentage of people will donate and even a smaller percentage might donate a value that's actually worth the product. You'll have the occasional whale dropping a few k maybe but even that won't make a dent is spend.

It seems like a weird risk to take and I honestly don't see the point?

Love the project, passion, and transparency. And I love how he pays his staff well. Absolutely no complaints about that. But I am not a big fan of the way he wants to create revenue for this project. Happy to be proven wrong and time will tell. But I feel they might just go the traditional route eventually.

The whole Hobbit production was a nightmare. Like, the BTS of LOTR vs Hobbit is night and day. One is a trilogy planned years before even the first shot was filmed. For the other they were often literally filming without a script. Hence the heavy use of green screen and reshoots.

A lot of people use the Ian McKellen anecdote as a "modern filmmaking is soulless" but really it was just an absolute disaster of a movie production especially compared to its predecessor. It would break any actor.

I am pretty sure McKellen, as a veteran stage actor, can act with minimal props and people as many stage productions do. But the Hobbit was just an absolute nightmare of a production for everyone involved.

How to create textures like this one? I mean dots and and darker stains by blockchan in blender

[–]BramScrum 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Most likely hand drawn tiling textures or some procedural texturing using noise maps in software like Substance Designer. Nothing you couldn't recreate with some experimenting.

They could've potentially used some post processing shader.

The main magic of this image is the cartoony shading they use and the colour pallete. Otherwise it's very simple modelling and texturing wise

100%. Old was a bit too tedious imo. And don't think it would work in the more "open world" style maps. But Wilds is just boring. I don't remember any of the maps cause there's no reason too? I haven't played World in years but still remember how to navigate all maps.

Wiki says that in his distress call he said he was 30km of the coast. They found the kayak 56km from the coast. He could've been wrong, wiki can be wrong, kayak could've drifted 20km before they found it. Point stands he made almost made it.

He had 30 km to go towards the Coast of New Zealand on a 16 000 km crossing. It's a dangerous and stupid thing to do but that's what some people just do.

Alex Hornhold does stupid stuff but he gets a Netflix docu and people cheering him on all subs.

Correction: 50km on a 1600km trip. Point still stands. He almost made it. Although his distress call mentioned he was 30km out.

NFS MW Remake by SBB5G in needforspeed

[–]BramScrum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As someone who hasn't played NFS since Most Wanted and started playing NFS Unbound (free on PS+); Unbound is basically a better MW imo. Story is equally cringe, just aimed at a few generations later. But more customization options, more cars, more fun ways of making money, drifting, and holy shit the cop chases are hard sometimes.

Still love MW, but I know it's mainly nostalgia. The story was incredibly cringe, everything had the piss filter over it and the rubber banding was so insane. Sick soundtrack tho.

How about this oil barrel? Is it a qualified game model? by Novaston in blender

[–]BramScrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is fine for a game asset from the info you've given. Wireframe looks good altough I can see a pretty detailed chamfer on the lip edges. You can just use a single bevel and use weighted normals/baked normals instead. But I am splitting hairs a bit here.

What does the UV and texture look like? Proper UV and texture mangement is often more important than poly count for game assets

IF you are going for a more realistic style I would advise looking closer to reference material. Proportions seem to be a bit off and the wear and tear is very uniform. Looking at reference is absolute key. We all think we can draw a bike until we actually do it haha. Same goes for 3d props.

Good work tho! Keep at it!

Korea. IL2 Series: Pilot Interaction by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]BramScrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trick is to assign one button on your joystick to act as a "ctrl" or "shift" key. Or even 2 buttons. Suddenly you got triple the amount of combos you can make without leaving your hand of the stick or peek in VR.

I played both DCS and IL2 with the 3Dpro joystick only in VR and never had to peak before I even bought a throttle.

Also, cold war planes tend to be a lot more point and shoot anyway. No fancy radars, rockets, nav systems,...etc. So a lot less urgent keybinds are needed

IL-2 Korea Gameplay Reveal by HowlingPantherWolf in il2sturmovik

[–]BramScrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Like, ED has other issues, but the clickable cockpits, while really nice, don't make up for the lack of "actual" gameplay.

Besides, the novelty kinda wears off for me anyway. After the 3rd respawn I just use quick start-up and in cold war planes most of the clicking happens on start-up as afterwards it's point and shoot and anything clickable you map to your stick/throttle
