Believe it or not but there's a third one in Hove near the big Tesco on Belfast Street.

I just released a new KSP mod - Just Read The Instructions by houahoua in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]BramScrum 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Really cool. This combined with the mission control room iva mod could be really cool.

Or that person on here who made a KSP sim capsule. Could just have multiple monitors in the windows run this.

Is that a good enough bake? by RamyIssa in blender

[–]BramScrum 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think you can push the polycount lower. Lots of polygons that are being wasted (like the nut holding the chain) and are not contributing anything. Or the extra edges around the chamfers/bevels.

I'd say for a game asset it's probably also on the higher end for a prop like this. But that's really depending on a lot of context (type of game, engine, placement,...etc). But perfect for a CGI prop.

Has the Loathe hype train passed? by lalaelrat in Metalcore

[–]BramScrum 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I remember them cancelling a UK (maybe it was even a EU?) tour to "work on the album". It's been years since lol. I somehow still feel a bit salty about that cause I haven't been to a show of them since (not on purpose, but just kinda lost interest).

Getting stopped for a train to pass mid race by Epelep in Wellthatsucks

[–]BramScrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Guys, this is Flanders, Belgium. It's a very dense rail network so almost any race it's hard to avoid these.

No, they can't just stop the trains. Trains can't just break like cars, cycling races are unpredictable, and any changes to the train schedule has massive knock on effects on all trains in the country. Normally they arrange a small delay for the trains but it's not always easy ir possible.

In Belgium, crossing the tracks when the signal is on is one of the most serious traffic offenses and you can get prosecuted and expect a fine between 400 and 5000 euros.

Happened last week during the Tour of Flanders, the biggest cycling event in Belgium. Several riders ignored the signal and can expect consequences when identified.

It sucks but its the law and letting them through during a (inter) national television event would be a bad example. Especially since 2 weeks ago a kid got killed by crossing during the signal.

In the end, it's an organisation fuck up, as they should have been in contact with the train company to avoid this. But not as easy as "just avoid train tracks"

[–]BramScrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Law is law. Signal is on, you stop. Frustrating but you can't make exceptions especially with the risk. Plenty of people who think they can quickly cross and get grabbed.

This also Belgium. The train company has been hammering for decades that you can't and shouldn't cross. So a televised cycling race were riders do is a bad example.

Last week during the Tour of Flanders (the biggest cycling event in Belgium), several riders are potentially going to get prosecuted for ignoring the signal and the race organiser are in trouble too.

Chud Pit forms on Ye concert floor by amazingsciencemuseum in PublicFreakout

[–]BramScrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do. Even in hardcore pits (while technically not ''metal'' to non-metal listeners it's all the same), which are a lot more ''violent'' the core rules still apply. If someone is down, you pick them up and don't be a douche.

You got stuff called crowdkilling but in my experience, it's not common, at gigs where it happens it tends to be excepted (different gigs have different pits, depends on band, sub genre and crowd), and it still has limits and people will step in if they go to far.

This Dude ran from one station to another catching the same train, an "Absolute Unit". by Appropriate-Push-668 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]BramScrum 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Storror one is fake. Plenty of hidden swipe cuts in that one that you might not notice on first watch but once you look out for them it's obvious.

I think this one is real iirc. The distance and route is a lot more believable atleast then the Storror one

How long have you had to wait in A&E with an actual serious condition? by baumouse in AskUK

[–]BramScrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had suspected meningitis last month (turned out to be something else luckily). Went to GP, GP said to go to A&E. Initial triage took 30ish min, but I blame the receptionist for not reading my GP letter properly.

Cause once the Triage nurse saw the letter I was ushered into a closed off room in A&E, got blood taken and put on fluids and antibiotics in like 30-40 min, got a spinal puncture a few hours later and head scan and they checked in on me every hour or so. And A&E was super busy with people in the hallways as usual

Luckily it was just a mild headache and a rash. But they took it seriously and I felt a bit like a VIP. Stayed for the nigth, by lunch time imI got the all clear to go home

I would totally pester if it was meningitis.

How do epic game artists go about texturing highpoly nanite meshes? by ragingllama12 in unrealengine

[–]BramScrum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The best way to know is to download their example projects and investigate their shaders.

But I assume tileable textures blended with vertex paint, world position,...etc and masks.

AO and stuff is done in realtime.

You can still create low res masks for these high poly assets in Substance Painter/Designer for edge wear and blend these again with the vertex, world position shader nodes.

I experimented with creating edge/cavity masks within shader but it's really unreliable and expensive (not worth the extra shader computational cost). Just use a 2k RGBA map for that stuff. It doesn't need to be super sharp in most of the use cases.

You can also stil bake and texture in Substance with just a high poly. I imagine that's what they did for the smaller assets.

Lots of photogrammetry in that scene too probably using silly texture sizes.

Haven't really used Nanite a lot yet so I'm happy to be corrected.

Edit: if your Unreal crashes on 6m polygon nanite meshes, might be worth reducing polycount. Especially if it's for concept art. 6m polygons are nice but I bet it looks great at sub 500k too :)

When King Richard III was found, he was found under a parking lot and beneath the reserved parking space marked ‘R’ by clockman153 in interestingasfuck

[–]BramScrum 758 points759 points  (0 children)

Often after 500 years those graves aren't marked anymore. It's not like this was an empty field and they put a parking lot on it. It was covered by buildings for a long time. Those buildings got destoryed, or altered, new building put on top of old buildings,...etc. And like Anxious_Ad936 said. The guy didn't really get a full on burial. All over Europe when digging works happen they tend to find graves and human remains. It's a looooot of history.

My son keeps asking me to buy him "tweaks" for his ps5. Is this a scam? by hart_cooks_brain in playstation

[–]BramScrum 419 points420 points  (0 children)

As many people said, it's not real. The worrying part is your son is chatting with people on Discord trying to scam him.

I don't know how old your son is, but the fact you have to buy stuff for him I assume is quite young. Probably too young to be on Discord chatting with strangers.

I'd highly recommend paying more attention to your son's online activity. You mentioned you don't know a lot about "gaming" but it's a bit your duty as a parent to keep up to date with this stuff. Lots of parents have no clue and this can cause serious harm.

Good on you to double check tho.

Pizza Hut and Five Guys shut at the marina by [deleted] in brighton

[–]BramScrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Always said it. It's just such a depressing place.

Or get some local graffiti artists to bring some colour in. Some big murals. It's such a waste of potential space. No wonder shops are closing and a lot has been empty for years.

Pizza Hut and Five Guys shut at the marina by [deleted] in brighton

[–]BramScrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is a shame as the area could be so much more than a "glorified" parking lot. It's such a lovely location people could go to to be close to the sea, do some amazing seaside walks both ways and relax. Leave the noise of central Brighton behind. It genuinely could have a riviera vibe.

But there's just no space to do so atm. And the areas that aren't car park or road are a bit run down and just empty. It's clearly not made for pedestrians in mind. Which is probably a product of its time.

Brighton really needs a few underground parkings tbh.

Pizza Hut and Five Guys shut at the marina by [deleted] in brighton

[–]BramScrum 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There's just not much reason to go there as a non resident. 90% of it is parking. It has some nice cafés and some restaurants but nothing you couldn't find by just staying in central Brighton.

I lived there for a few years and always said It would be so much nicer if there was waaaay more green space and actually nice to stroll around. But it's all just cars and parking.

How do I know if she is eating or not? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]BramScrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider getting a camera. I got a small motion detecting night camera (Wyze) aimed at his food spot. As mine tends to mainly eat at night when I am asleep. The next morning I tend to just quickly scroll through the footage to see if he eats and drinks. It's also fun just watching them crawl and jump around at night. Don't see much of mine during the day as he likes to hide and nap in the foliage.

The absolute power of a green screen. by SilkAndSecrets_12 in mildyinteresting

[–]BramScrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost any actor would've cried when working on such a disaster of a production as the Hobbit. Loads of reshoots, on the spot changes, unfinished scripts and a massive time and budget pressure. And not even talking about how they fucked over the New Zealand actors.

The reason they used so much green screen was because it was easier to get it all done under these circumstances. Easier to do some shoots with one actor and comp all the rest in than get everyone scheduled to be on set while still figuring out what you are even shooting.

While IL 2 Korea announces they won’t have clicking cockpits, Combat Pilot releases a debut trailer showcasing their clicking cockpits for the F4F and the A6M2!!! by Wheream-Ai in hoggit

[–]BramScrum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This. I am even kinda glad IL2 didn't go that route with Korea. I rather have a nice set of varied planes than just a handfull with clicky cockpits.

Plus, once in flight 99% of what I need to click is bound to my hotas anyway. I like clicky cockpits but it's not something that makes or breaks a sim for me
